Actor-filmmaker Sohail Khan says it is his good fortune that Nawazuddin Siddiqui joined the cast of ‘Freaky Ali’.
Sohail said he wanted to make a film on the game of golf “People think it’s an elitist game meant for the rich and the privileged. My basic premise for the film was what if someone from the lower strata of the society, in this case an undergarment seller from small town, gets thrown into the vast elitist green acres of golf?
“What if this simpleton doesn’t know of the existence of the expert golfer within him? That’s how this film started.”
This is where writer Raaj Shaandilya came to help Sohail co-write the script.
“I’ve known him from the time he was working on ‘Comedy Circus’. I was a judge on the show. I needed his sensibility in ‘Freaky Ali’.”
Sohail also needed Nawazuddin to play Freaky Ali.

The actress described her character as a fearless lawyer who stands for the truth and is unafraid of her colleagues. “It’s a challenging role and I had fun playing it because it’s a totally fictional character but integral to the narrative,” says Lara.
She shot for most of her scenes in Hyderabad with a few sequences in London. The actress will be seen as Azhar’s arch nemesis in the film, who goes out of her way to prove that he was responsible for the match-fixing scandal. Lara has worked hard to fit the bill of a lawyer. As a part of her preparation, she met with a lawyer friend to understand her working style and observe her body language. Director Tony D’Souza is deeply impressed with her acting prowess said,...

This is not the first time that a pair in love has enthusiastically signed a film only to find that love has gone out of the window. Jagga Jasoos, that strange-sounding film about a boy-man detective was a project beleaguered from the beginning. The story of how Jagga Jasoos (Jj) got itself into a deadlock makes for a great movie script. When the film was announced two years ago Ranbir Kapoor-Anurag Basu-Utv were seen as a super-winning team after Barfi. Basu was on top of the world. He suggested another out-of-the-box venture, this time minus Priyanka Chopra, but with Katrina Kaif playing the female lead instead. When Jj was announced love between Ranbir and Katrina was at its acme. Who was to know it (love) would evaporate in no time at all? What would remain is a residue of bitterness and coldness. But that came later. When...

The unpredictable ways of the box office struck again when this week the big mammoth purportedly epic love story Fitoor collected a meager Rs. 3.5 crores on the first day of release whereas the relatively smaller-budgeted Sanam Re, collected approximately Rs. 5 crores on Day 1.
There was no sign of improvement in the collections of Fitoor over the weekend.
How does one explain a Rs. 14 crore budgeted Sanam Re out-distancing the massive budgeted Fitoor at the box office?
Sanam Re director Divya Khosla Kumar doesn't hide her surprise at the turn of events. "I honestly thought Fitoor being a Katrina Kaif film and also considering the director had delivered two successes, would get a better opening. And I was completely fine with that. But Sanam Re scored better than Fitoor! This just inspires me to work harder. Also audience always believes in good product and story."
However, Divya admits she wasn't trying to be one-up on Fitoor.

Abhishek Kapoor's Fitoor, a Kashmir set adaptation of Charles Dickens' Great Expectations, marks yet another step on the downward spiral that is the modern Bollywood blockbuster. I hate to write lines like that, I've invested quite a bit of time and energy in the cinema of India and have been rewarded by the remarkable quality of many of the films. However, when it comes to the typical, or even atypical, studio romances I find myself let down again and again. It's not that I don't like romances, or even the traditional Bollywood melodrama, it's that the filmmakers and producers have shifted their focus so far from the emotional truth of their stories that they fail to understand what makes a film memorable, instead settling for visually...

Starring – Tabu, Katrina Kaif, Aditya Roy Kapoor and above all, Kashmir
Directed by Abhishek Kapoor
There is only one hero in Abhishek Kapoor’s massively disappointing and bogus adaptation of Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations. And it’s not Aditya Roy Kapoor. It’s Kashmir. The film, purported to be a romance between the bewitching Katrina Kaif and the besotted Aditya Roy Kapoor, romances just the Kashmir Valley. The rest is all mystery.
I recommend Fitoor be used to promote tourism in the Valley. As for Charles Dickens and Great Expectations, thankfully the author is not around to see how far his novel about forbidden love has been taken away from its roots.
Dickens’ title, as it turns out, proves prophetically ironic. You enter director Abhishek Kapoor’s snow-swept stunning world of stillness and turbulence, with a whole lot of expectations. You come away feeling cheated, betrayed and also angry for...

After promising his very special friend the world and the stars, Salman Khan left poor Katrina Kaif high and dry earlier this week. Apparently, the eager and excited actress arranged a special screening of Fitoor at a suburban theatre earlier this week. But, Salman didn't show up. Says a source, "Katrina had to cancel the show that she had kept for Salman! He had promised he would see her film. She arranged a show and even invited some of her friends for the show. Salman Khan kept telling her he was on the way. But he never came. She had to cancel the show." We wonder if this could be because Salman got to hear the not-so-encouraging advance reports of Fitoor and decided to stay away. Also, the other release this week Sanam Re stars Salman's protege Pulkit Samrat. Maybe, he chose to keep a discreet distance from the other film.

On the occasion of International Rose Day last week (Last Sunday), Aditya Roy Kapur decided to surprise his co-star, Katrina Kaif, with an extraordinary gift – a truckload of roses. He literally sent a truck full of bright and gorgeous roses to his co-star. Aditya definitely caught Katrina’s attention by gifting her about one lakh roses. He drove the truck that was full of the flowers himself, and presented them to her at the scenic Jai Mahal Palace in Jaipur (Rajasthan). As Rose Day is celebrated across the country exactly one week before Valentine’s Day, Aditya thought it would be the perfect way to make Katrina feel special. The idea came to Aditya a couple of days back, and he immediately started making the arrangements for it. Katrina was absolutely surprised and deeply touched by the gesture, and thanked Aditya by giving him a big hug.

Haminastu is sung by Zeb Bangash who is a Pakistani folk singer who we all loved, every time we listened to her on Coke Studio. After lending her voice for few Bollywood songs for the film Highway and Madras Café, singer Zeb Bangash has sung another beautiful song for the film ‘Fitoor’. She combines Turkish, Pashto lyrics and instruments in an beautiful synchronisation to the mainstream way. She starts this song with what sounds like Pashto lyrics and brings in strong Urdu lyrics in an urban mix of traditional instruments blended with a huge orchestra creating a mix of musical magic. Although the lyrics are deep and uncommon for a listener the melancholy of her voice of is so unforgettable in places that she can give one goose bumps. The ambience is really strong in this song with the use of Santoor and Rabaab and the Rabaab solo at the...

Music giant T-Series has fast emerged as a film production house to contend with. In fact after subsequent hits like Aashiqui 2, Baby, Airlift and mid to low budget money spinners like Yaariyan and Hate Story series, we hear that the production house headed by Bhushan Kumar is set to take things to the next level with their forthcoming release Sanam Re. Apparently, post the success of Airlift that released across 2000 odd screens across India, T-Series has been flooded with requests from distributors to follow a similar plan with Sanam Re, ensuring that the film will get a massive widespread release. While this will certainly boost the film's overall visibility, Sanam Re, that releases this Friday will go head to head with the Hollywood anti-superhero flick Deadpool and the Katrina Kaif, Aditya Roy Kapur and Tabu starrer Fitoor. Commenting on the same a confident Bhushan Kumar says, "Usually a romantic...

The whole entertainment industry knows Salman Khan plays a much bigger part than just being the star attraction of his films. Salman takes keen interest in the editing, post-production, marketing and every aspect of his film. It therefore comes as no surprise to know that Salman's close friend and erstwhile protegee Katrina Kaif has sought Salman's advice over the content of her new film Fitoor. Says a source in the know, "Fitoor is Katrina's first film in 17 months. It's also a film that is meant to consolidate her career after the recent upheavals in her life. And Salman is there to help her get over this difficult period." Salman Khan has now agreed to see Katrina's Fitoor, and perhaps suggest last-minute changes if necessary. The star is so busy shooting for his next film Sultan that there is talk of setting up a screening of Fitoor on the sets of Sultan for Salman.

Next week's big release Fitoor seems to have solved the pay-parity issue. Apparently, both Katrina Kaif and Aditya Roy Kapur were paid Rs 4 crores each for the film. Says a source, "Katrina is senior to Aditya Roy Kapur. So it was felt she should be paid on a par with Aditya Roy Kapoor. In fact Aditya would have been paid much less. Since he is producer Siddharth Roy Kapur's brother he got the kind of money that he wouldn't have otherwise demanded and got." The Fitoor director Abhishek Kapoor has been paid Rs 10 crores. Says a trade insider, "Wonder what qualifies Abhishek Kapoor for the Rs 10 crores fee that he has demanded and got for Fitoor. Rock On and Kai Po Che were hardly the kind of raging successes that would justify that kind of remuneration." A trade insider who wishes to go unnamed says, "There is very little interest in Fitoor except Katrina Kaif.

Apparently body sculpting is the new fitness mantra. Gone are the days when actors underwent rigorous training to flaunt six-pack or eight-pack abs. Aditya Roy Kapoor, who hasn’t beefed up even a bit, has taken a different route to show-off a well-toned physique in Fitoor. The actor opted for body sculpting which is the process used to tone one’s body muscles to perfection. An extremely exhausting process, the actor had to first work towards losing muscle mass and then reducing body fat. It took the actor months to get the right body type for his character in the film.
Aditya Roy Kapoor said, “I have been following this regime on and off for a year-and-a-half now. After filming some sequences, I let go a little bit and I had to lose weight all over again, which was quite frustrating. So I’ve learnt that this lifestyle has to be consistent.

This Valentine season the censor board is in the mood to fall in love with love. Four romantic films have been cleared with virtually no cuts.
First one off the shelf is Loveshhuda, a rom-com featuring Girish Taurani and debutante Navneet Kaur Dhillon on February 19. The film has been certified with a UA with no cuts. Though there were certain shots, dialogues and situations that were sexual in nature, the censor board raised no objection as the producer agreed to a 'UA'
However, the co-directors Vinay Sapru and Radhika Rao of the other Valentine release Sanam Teri Kasam (which opens on 5th February) were keen on a 'U' certificate. So they were asked to snip off small portions of their dialogues.

"Doodh maangoge to kheer denge, Kashmir maangoge to cheer denge," was a rabble rousing dialogue that was made famous in Sunny Deol, Arbaaz Khan starrer Maa Tujhe Salaam. This dialogue finds its way into Abhishek Kapoor's ambitious Fitoor based on Charles Dickens's 'The Great Expectations'. The film is based in Kashmir and Abhishek admitted at the promo launch in Mumbai today that Tabu's character is somehow related to Pakistan . "It is not an Anti Pakistan film," he specified. I told Abhishek that Haider was based on Shakespeare's 'Hamlet' but it also had Kashmir as its backdrop and Fitoor is also having a Kashmir backdrop so is he anticipating some sort of opposition the way Haider did (it was loved by many people as well)? Abhishek replied that even Kabhi Kabhie had a Kashmir Backdrop. "I'm talking about conflict in Kashmir," I specified. Abhishek ambiguously said that...
