Following its release around Halloween (surprisingly enough) of 2014, The Evil Within snagged a reasonable number of fans as a result of its visceral horror and engaging story, not to mention it’s association with Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami. This year, The Evil Within 2 returns to plague long suffering protagonist Sebastian Castellano with yet more nightmarish creatures and torturous situations to fight, crawl and clamber his way out of.
New players are advised to check out the first game (or at least read up on the story) before beginning the sequel, but needless to say, poor Castellano is suffering from a strong case of alcoholism following his experiences at the Beacon Mental Institute. Broken and in search of a saviour, he is visited by Juli Kidman (a mysterious Mobius double agent from the first game) with news of his beloved daughter, whom he had believed was killed in a house fire.

I arrived at Shinji Mikami’s The Evil Within about two years after its release, having grown tired of survival horror and the staleness of the genre as a whole. However, when I finally settled in for a playthrough, I couldn’t let it go. Roughly fifteen hours later, I’d guided embattled hero Detective Sebastian Castellanos through a series of terrifying encounters and remarkably freaky scenarios inside one of the most hellish mental hospitals in video game history. It was a grueling experience, complete with sweaty hands and muffled screams, but it reminded me of why, exactly, I’d spent so much time with Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and their ilk over the years.
Naturally, I had high expectations for The Evil Within 2, especially considering the team responsible for the first outing — writer and Troma vet Trent Haaga, in particular — was returning for yet another horrifying go-around. Thankfully, the...

This past summer, I was invited to Dallas for the annual QuakeCon gaming celebration, and while there, I entered the haunted city of Union in an immersive demo for the new video game The Evil Within 2. After surviving the demo, I had the chance to sit down with some of the creative team from The Evil Within 2, including Tango Gameworks Studio Director Shinji Mikami (also known for his work on the Resident Evil video game series), Game Director John Johanas, and Writer Trent Haaga (Cheap Thrills, Deadgirl).

Ahead of its release this Friday the 13th, The Evil Within 2 is teased in a surreal and spooky launch trailer from Bethesda Softworks:
"In The Evil Within 2, Sebastian Castellanos must once again confront unspeakable horrors within the nightmare born from the infamous Stem. This time, however, Sebastian’s mission is personal: He’s searching for his daughter Lily, who he thought he had lost many years ago, and it’s now a race against time as the world crumbles around him. Sebastian must rescue Lily before everything falls apart and they are both lost in Stem.
But it’s not just the grotesque creatures that freely wander the streets of Union that Sebastien must face in him hunt to find Lily… Stem is a world that can be bent and broken to the will of a few particularly deranged individuals. And the real horror may be the human monsters trapped inside,...

We met the "gruesome, giggling guardian" in a previous trailer for The Evil Within 2, but now Bethesda has another character they'd like to introduce us to: Father Theodore, a priest who is looking to become a new god and doesn't seem to mind using a little fire and brimstone along the way.
"Shrouded in mystery, Father Theodore has remained an enigma…until now. Along with Stefano, Theodore is one of the human “monsters” who have made their way into the new Stem world in The Evil Within 2, and he’s finally ready to reveal his message to the masses – a message that promises a “righteous” fury and immolation to those who oppose him. Sebastian will need to survive the wrath of this master manipulator if he’s going to have any hope of finding Lily and escaping the nightmare of Stem.
Theodore has his own reasons for being in Stem...

When The Evil Within was announced back in 2013 with a live action trailer, I knew it was something special. A spiritual successor to Resident Evil 4 from Shinji Mikami – the series’ creator himself? I was instantly sold. While the game we got wasn’t genre-defining, I thought it was a pretty great survival horror […]...

Have the 2010s been a terrific decade for survival horror, or what? Not in any other genre over the last seven years has there been such extensive evolution in the way developers attempt to scare the living daylights out of those willingly picking up the pad to explore the darker side of entertainment. That’s thanks, in no small part, to the massive contribution indie devs have made to ensuring the genre’s, excuse the pun, survival over the years.
Barring a few notable exceptions in the noughties (Condemned and the original Dead Space, among others), true survival horror, that is, where action-oriented gameplay isn’t considered to be the primary element, is a genre that’s been in flux, as far as the triple-a industry is concerned. Capcom, itself often considered to be the one responsible for the genre’s blueprint, began diverging from the formula with Resident Evil...

The Little Hours Character Posters: "Medieval nuns Alessandra (Alison Brie), Fernanda (Aubrey Plaza), and Ginevra (Kate Micucci) lead a simple life in their convent. Their days are spent chafing at monastic routine, spying on one another, and berating the estate’s day laborer. After a particularly vicious insult session drives the peasant away, Father Tommasso (John C. Reilly) brings on new hired hand Massetto (Dave Franco), a virile young servant forced into hiding by his angry lord. Introduced to the sisters as a deaf-mute to discourage temptation, Massetto struggles to maintain his cover as the repressed nunnery erupts in a whirlwind of pansexual horniness, substance abuse, and wicked revelry."
Written and directed by Jeff Baena, The Little Hours stars Alison Brie, Dave Franco, Kate Mucucci, Aubrey Plaza, John C. Reilly, Molly Shannon, Fred Armisen, Jemima Kirke, Nick Offerman, Adam Pally, Jon Gabrus, and Lauren Weedman.

Inconceivable Release Details: Press Release: "Los Angeles, June 22, 2017 -- As its June 30 theatrical and digital release approaches, actor/director/producer Jonathan Baker reflects on the theme of his film, which, safe to say, is an entertaining thriller with a cautionary message: if you’re thinking about IVF, surrogate motherhood or even just hiring a child minder, be careful. Rather like Jaws’ tagline, “You’ll never go in the water again,” after seeing Inconceivable, you just might want to think twice before leaving your child alone with a stranger, even as attractive and seductive one as Inconceivable star Nicky Whelan.
Baker cites nanny, surrogacy and IVF programs gone wrong when he talks about why he chose to do the film. “The movie is about a couple and their journey though In Vitro Fertilization (IVF), surrogate motherhood and a vindictive nanny. IVF is a topic that can be taboo, even in the USA. In addition to entertaining the audience, I wanted to shed light on this subject—which affects so many couples—in an open forum to help dispel the secrecy and even shame surrounding this topic. The film provides the space for a real problem to play out (in an admittedly extreme way) in a fictional world. There are many people who want children that need the help, and this film strings viewers along for their struggle, but in a very different, arguably darker, way.”
“While the film at first focuses on IVF, the focus naturally dips into surrogate motherhood as it becomes the route used to solve the couple [played by Nicolas Cage and Gina Gershon]’s infertility,” Baker continues. “But is the surrogate mother potentially signing her unborn child’s life away? For the average couple, surrogacy does not connect with losing a child; however this thriller is all about exploring that fear. Allowing a stranger into your world can be frightening in itself, but such vulnerability is amplified with surrogacy. The film proves that IVF and surrogacy can create a dangerous cocktail of tension, paranoia, and fear that can destroy a family.”
Deception doesn’t always come from where you expect it to; sometimes it comes from your most trusted nanny as seen with Inconceivable. When a stranger is in the home, it is natural to fear something might go wrong. Such incidents have been widely broadcast in cases such as with Gwen Stefani, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Balthazar Getty, among others. Isn’t it weird that we trust strangers with our most prized possessions: children? I wanted to combine these topics to bring these fears to the screen, because fear is what gets people talking. Through discussion, society can better address such topics.
Overall, my goal for this film was to make something that matters and really hits home with people. Infertility is a harsh reality for many prospective parents, and I wanted to help contribute to such an important dialogue as this. I want my movie to bring the topics out of hiding and into open discussion. That’s why ‘deception hits home’ is such a fraught tag line for the movie.”
Starring Nic Cage, Gina Gershon, Faye Dunaway and Nicky Whelan and co-starring Eva Marie and Jonathan Baker, Lionsgate Premiere is releasing Inconceivable June 30."

The Evil Within 2 was announced at E3. Story details and much more can be found here...
Back in 2014, Tango Gameworks and Bethesda Softworks served up a surprise treat: The Evil Within, a third-person survival game set in a creepy, horrific world (inspired by urban legends). Players got to know grizzled protagonist Detective Sebastian Castellanos rather well as he shot, slashed and sprinted his way through a series of monster-infested environments.
See related Transformers: Age Of Extinction just shy of three hours long Transformers: the great toy massacre of 1986
The baddies of the piece were the shady Morbius organisation, who lured Sebastian into their Stem system - a nightmarish world, made by combining people's minds - and let havoc and bloodshed ensue.
The thrill of the game derived not just from the scares, but also the survival elements. Scavenging items and avoiding deadly bear traps are the bread and butter of the gameplay,...

As The Evil Within 2‘s announced, we take a look at what happens when urban myths and legends collide with the realm of gaming...
Most people can cite at least a couple of urban legends or conspiracy theories. Paul McCartney isn't really Paul McCartney. A ghost haunts a single shot in the 80s comedy hit Three Men And A Baby. Blowing on Nintendo cartridges makes them work better.
With the advent of the internet, we might be forgiven for thinking that outlandish claims and tall tales would be chased away by the might of Google or a website like Snopes, where myth-busting facts are but a search term or click away. Instead, the web has allowed creepy stories and urban legends to travel more quickly than ever, as they’re copied and pasted in forums, emails and social media posts - hence the oft-used term 'creepypasta', used to describe these strange,...

Last night at Bethesda's E3 press conference, they revealed a terrifying first look at The Evil Within 2, promising a horror game that goes beyond even the first. Come inside to check out the trailer!
The Evil Within 2 gets the absolute perfect release date of October 13th of this year. (Friday the 13th) The horror game is a follow up to the 2014 survival horror title of the same name, which released to high praise from both critics and fans.
The game is once again being created by developers Tango Gameworks, which is led by Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami.
Much like Wolfenstein, this game wasn't a total surprise because Bethesda had been hinting at it for some time. There was even word that the follow up would be made due to the first game selling so well. It is nice to have a full reveal, trailer, and a release date within the same year though.

The latest trailer for The Evil Within 2 gives us a look at the game in action. Take a look inside...
There are enough tentacles and slippery monsters in The Evil Within 2 to make Lovecraft blush. Detective Sebastian Castellanos is back, and he's going to need all the stealth, puzzle-solving and monster-bashing skills he can muster if he's going to survive another game full of unholy terror.
The latest trailer for Bethesda's survival horror sequel shows plenty of gameplay, which once again takes the form of a third-person action adventure with lots of nightmarish imagery. As a big nod to Twin Peaks fans, just check out the pattern on the floor towards the end of the trailer - a most pleasing detail.

Back in 2014, Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami partnered with Bethesda Softworks for the disturbing horror adventure known as The Evil Within. Now, a little under three years later, the legend is back with the sequel, The Evil Within 2.
Picking up following the events of the original, the game reunites you with Detective Sebastian Castellanos. Squaring off with the mysterious Mobius organization once again, Sebastian will be thrust into a surreal and terrifying world. With a chance to save his daughter Lily within reach, will Detective Castellanos be able to handle another punishing dose of cerebral horror?
If the debut trailer unleashed tonight is anything to go by, The Evil Within 2 will be just as terrifying as its predecessor. In this clip alone we get a glimpse at ugly creatures, dark forests and burning buildings. All hallmarks of the horror genre. With his former franchise on the upswing now, it’ll...

What is it? A bus driver writes poetry in his spare time about the world and stuff.
Why see it? The brief summation above is pretty much accurate in describing the whole of Jim Jarmusch’s latest, but it doesn’t begin to capture the warmth, humor, and humanity the film delivers. Adam Driver plays the title role and creates a character far removed from the easily antagonized and disgruntled ones he’s best known for. His Paterson is a simple man of simple pleasures, but while most films would mock or sideline him here he’s embraced. Even better, his demeanor and perception of the world are remarkably calming and infectious...

You wait generations for a Bethesda press conference at the industry’s famous E3 expo and suddenly, three come along in as many years.
On Sunday, June 11th, the decorated publisher will take the stage at the Los Angeles Convention Center to showcase its pixelated wares for 2017 and beyond, but as E3 2017 marks the first year in which the annual trade show is open to the public, Bethesda is bringing an exciting surprise to the show floor: a Vr build of Fallout 4. First announced at E3 2016, a Vr version of the award-winning RPG is expected to launch for Htc Vive sometime in 2017 – other platforms such as PlayStation Vr and Oculus Rift are yet to be confirmed – and it’ll seemingly blow our minds.
That’s according to Bethesda boss Pete Hines, who turned in a status report regarding Fallout 4‘s Vr support while chatting to Hip Hop Gamer (via Game...

A sequel to Tango Gameworks’ The Evil Within could well be on the cards if a recently discovered job listing is anything to go by. As posted over on NeoGAF, the Japanese listing is for a translator and Q&A bug reporter position and runs from April 10 until October 31 of this year. You can find the full job listing over here which, it should be mentioned, has yet to be sourced, so as always, take this with a pinch of salt.
For those wondering how the name Psycho Break has any relation to The Evil Within, the former is the official name of the title in Japan, similar to how the Resident Evil series has always been known simply as Biohazard in its country of origin. Among the many peculiar titles that made their market debut at the American Film Market late last year, Vision Films’ The Evil Within may well have been the strangest.
Released in the U.S. last week, the psychological horror stands out in no small part because of its somewhat protracted production schedule (almost 15 years), and also its director: a Getty oil heir who died at age 47 before seeing the film completed, becoming another chapter in his family's tragic history.
The story may seen standard genre fare: a mentally challenged boy has his dreams haunted by demonic creature who orders...

Both Tango Gameworks’ The Evil Within and id Software’s Rage sold enough copies to warrant sequels, publisher Bethesda has revealed. During an interview with Finder.com.au (via Destructoid) during this year’s QuakeCon, Bethesda vice president Pete Hines was asked whether both games were successful enough to secure follow-ups in the future, to which Hines responded, “I do think both The Evil Within and Rage did well enough that we could make sequels.”
For the uninitiated, The Evil Within launched back in 2014, and was directed by legendary Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami, while Rage was the result of id Software trying to do something different by splicing the first-person shooter with driving and a splash of RPG mechanics.
Hines continues to emphasize that a sequel for either game has yet to be confirmed, and while both are possible, fans will “have to wait and see” what projects Bethesda...

Players may still be pulling themselves together after Juli Kidman’s harrowing journey in The Assignment, but Bethesda isn’t giving horror fans much respite after the publisher confirmed that The Evil Within‘s second batch of story Dlc, The Consequence, will debut on April 21.

As much as I loved Shinji Mikami’s last entry in his venerable series of horror games, The Evil Within left me wanting more closure from its convoluted and gap-filled story. Any plot details that were given weren’t terribly straightforward, the ending was left way too open and just about nothing was explained in regards to how Juli Kidman, Sebastian’s partner, knew as much as she did about what was going on. Thankfully, the first episode of Dlc, The Assignment, remedies this by offering a story-driven look into Kidman’s role in the proceedings.
Stepping into Kidman’s shoes this time around, The Assignment follows the shady double agent as she tries to track down Leslie, the psycho-savant who could get her out of the Stem’s nightmare world. Working for Mobius, she is told that she will be given a way into the system that will make...

As promised, publisher Bethesda has given fans of The Evil Within an update relating to the survival horror’s maiden slice of Dlc, The Assignment, which has been slated for a March release across consoles and PC.
News comes by way of Bethesda itself, who outlined the launch window via the eerie trailer above. In it, we see who we assume to be Juli Kidman — partner to Detective Castellanos and core protagonist for this slate of add-ons — cowering in a locker from a menacing threat. The Assignment is the first of three content packs releasing for The Evil Within, considering that The Consequence and The Keeper will rear their heads later this year.
According to the publisher, the first installment will see players come up against against all-new monsters and puzzles as they look to unravel the game’s ambiguous plot. For the uninitiated, Juli (voiced by Jennifer Carpenter) is...
