Not Christian, Not wholesome, Not funny
paniner3 February 2018
I see one supposed PHD reviewed this as a theological gem... must have gone to the college of Satan- we have cursing, right in front of the 'god' character, a god with no morality, who only wants us to be kinder, no salvation message for the obviously lost characters, who winks at the heroine moving in with her new boyfriend! This is not the God of the Bible. This movie is a loser on all fronts- kind of an Oprah meets Joel Osteen and Kathy Griffin! If you like 'feel good' theology and slapstick humor with impossibly naive situations, you may like this movie. Otherwise save your money!

A hilarious, touching movie about love and suffering!

This wonderful movie made me laugh and cry. It's an honest, heartfelt story about life and everything that makes life meaningful--joy, pain, hope, healing, and forgiveness. As an academic theologian, I thought that the theology in the film was superb. God is loving, but loves us too much to control us. We are free and responsible because God made us that way, and so everything we decide and do is important. Yet, God is always with us, and faith and friends are what pull us through.

The acting is exceptional throughout, so that you forget you're watching a film and just sympathize with the characters. It's also very family friendly. Highly recommended. (review by Jon Paul Sydnor, PhD)
