1.2: Not quite as good as the first episode but nicely comedic and Grae is natural and funny

The second episode in this sitcom turned up a month or so after the first – the first was on Christmas Day, this one was on Valentine's Day. In terms of narrative there does not seem to be any connection to the first episode since this one sees Jean in a new apartment which has some issues – the least of which being the rooster in the backyard. As she tries to deal with this, her friends start to show up, bringing lots of new problems and one particularly unwise hair decision. Oh, and lots of creepy things occur for split seconds.

There is a bit of a dip in production standards with this episode over the last one; not to say the first episode was perfect, but there is a bit less professional feel to this one. This isn't helped by the edits which are sometimes messy, and sometimes are deliberately distracting since we have weird images from old films and cartoons edited in for maybe half a second at a time. I guess for some this may work, but for me it didn't really do anything and it broke up the flow and seemed unnecessary and not adding value. The narrative is also not as good as the first episode; here it is more just a group scene with a couple of central jokes to build reactions around. Luckily it remains funny despite this, and the dialogue and its delivery was mostly funny and engaging.

Grae herself is a big reason for it working since she plays her character very well – far from any glamour or superstar personae, she has great timing and delivery with dialogue but also her facial expressions. The supporting cast also got good laughs and they get the natural approach and are engaging and amusing. Hopefully the slight dip from the first episode is not an indication of a trajectory for the episodes to come, but even if it remains like this episode, it is still funny enough to sell it.
