This interpretation of Treasure island was enjoyable enough. It just doesn't feel like you've achieved anything by watching it.
By the end of the film, it's not the lead that stops the villain and instead it's the silly side character. They did accomplish stopping some pirates at the cost of loads of lives and the only 2 characters that get any depth are Jim and Long John silver. The others have personality but none change throughout the story or have any character evolution accept Jim and Silver. They randomly kill off characters as jokes and the scenes get quite boring with most of the sets looking similar after they leave the ship.
I did think the acting was great though and some of the sets like on the ship were amazing and had so much detail. The characters felt unique even if they had no depth and the atmosphere of the sets were brilliant with the use of lighting and fog machines. I also like how they change some of the characters genders from the original book and think it makes the play stand out from other interpretations of this book.
Overall, it's decent but could have been better. I give it 6/10.
