  [bones crack as she pulls on those sleeves, breaking his neck]

  Caroline Forbes : How did they even know we were here? Why are you so calm? Help me!

  Stefan Salvatore : Because I already tried. You're wasting your energy.

  Caroline Forbes : [sighs]  Every move I make feels like sandpaper rubbing against my veins.

  Elena Gilbert : Knock, knock.

  Caroline Forbes : Elena. Lemme guess. Humanity police was your idea.

  Elena Gilbert : [opens hatch, speaks through it]  We really want you back, Caroline.

  Caroline Forbes : Remember that night Jeremy died and you turned off your humanity and tried to kill the prom queen, a.k.a. your best friend Bonnie? I forget. Stefan, was that before or after she killed some waitress for no reason?

  Stefan Salvatore : I think it was after.

  Caroline Forbes : [smirks, lies back on bed]  You see, Stefan and I are just finding it a little ironic that you think you're qualified to tell us how to deal with the death of a loved one.

  Elena Gilbert : I'm not here to preach to you, Caroline. I just came to show you this.

  [offers envelope through window] 

  Elena Gilbert : This letter from your Mom arrived at our dorm just a few days after her funeral. Apparently, there was something she wanted to tell you.

  [Stefan takes it, as Caroline frowns] 

  Stefan Salvatore : Does this look real to you?

  Caroline Forbes : Her impeccably perfect handwriting? Yup. I remember when she taught me how to write my name in cursive.

  [glares at Elena] 

  Caroline Forbes : What? Am I supposed to read this and snap back to sad pathetic motherless Caroline?

  [big cold smile, and then her pupils grow wide] 

  Caroline Forbes : Burn it!

  Stefan Salvatore : What?

  Caroline Forbes : Did I say stand there and look stupid? No, I said burn it!

  Stefan Salvatore : Um...

  [sighs] 

  Stefan Salvatore : maybe I should...

  [shakes his head] 

  Stefan Salvatore : for read it... first.

  Caroline Forbes : Why do you care?

  Stefan Salvatore : I mean, what happens if eventually you get your humanity back and you hate me for destroying the last thing your Mom wanted to say to you?

  [grabs a match, lights it]

  Elena Gilbert : Stefan, don't! No...!

  [Caroline has a resolute look in her eyes, and as Stefan holds the letter, she lets the flame lick the unopened envelope] 

  Elena Gilbert : No!

  Stefan Salvatore : Sorry, Elena, if you want us back, you're gonna have to try a lot harder than that.

• Caroline Forbes : [Damon overhears]  Ugh! This is torture!

  Damon Salvatore : [to Elena, re trapped Caroline and Stefan]  Sounds like the rats are getting restless.

  Caroline Forbes : Ugh...! Like actual... torture. Elena and Damon. Talking about their future together. Ugh...! I wanna die.

  Stefan Salvatore : They'll make a mistake eventually. And when they do, we will pounce. Drain the first person we get our teeth on.

  Caroline Forbes : Oh, my God. What I would do for just a sip of human blood.

  [sighs, then giggles, scoots closer to Stefan] 

  Caroline Forbes : You know, when you're feeding on someone's neck and their artery's still pulsing?

  [her face close to his] 

  Caroline Forbes : I really love that.

  [aims kiss] 

  Stefan Salvatore : I thought your veins felt like sandpaper.

  Caroline Forbes : They do. So take my mind off it.

  [they kiss passionately] 

  Damon Salvatore : [opens hatch]  Bored yet?

  Caroline Forbes : Go away, Damon.

  Damon Salvatore : Brought you some real light reading from the true crime section. Curious. Which one of you idiots attacked a stadium security guard and stuffed him in a laundry cart?

  Caroline Forbes : ['been there, done that' tone]  That would have been me.

  Damon Salvatore : Nice technique. It's probadly good that your Mom's gone. That would've been one hell of a cover-up.

  Caroline Forbes : [whiny]  Why are you always picking on me? Stefan's in here too. Annoy... him.

  Damon Salvatore : Because Stefan didn't snap a barback's clavicle in half. It's really quite sad, actually. I could see Liz right now calling the parents, breaking the news, wondering where she went wrong as a mother.

  Caroline Forbes : She got cancer, Damon. That is where she went wrong.

  Damon Salvatore : Oh. Blame her. A healthy attitude, Caroline.

  Caroline Forbes : You know what, you're right. I should really just... be more like you and Elena... and just make-believe about the future that I can't have. Because that's healthy.

  Caroline Forbes : Maybe I'll pretend I can actually give birth to babies... and have a normal family. And I could get a job without having to move and start over every five years. And I can operate on my patients without wanting to feed on them.

  Damon Salvatore : You're a real bitch when you're hungry.

  Caroline Forbes : I'm curious, Damon. How does it feel to know that you can't give someone a life that she really wants?
