The most controversial movement within country music might be bro-country. Jason Aldean was asked what he thinks of being classified as a bro-country artist. Aldean also discussed his favorite songs to play live.
Jason Aldean thinks ‘bro-country’ is a ‘backhanded’ label
Florida Georgia Line became one of the most influential country acts of the 2010s. They introduced a new subgenre called “bro-country.” Bro-country combined country pop with some of the instrumentation from hip-hop and rock. What makes bro-country really stand out, however, is its lyrics. Bro-country songs are known for their masculinity, focusing on topics like partying, trucks, beer, and sexy women.
The genre was as controversial as it was popular. While many listeners often enjoyed bro-country’s upbeat rhythms, journalists often decried the style as sexist, lowbrow, and repetitive. Critics also said the style took up too much space on country radio, making it difficult for female singers to get a foothold there.

A boomerang throwback to Amazon’s early streaming years when poignant oddballs like Transparent and Patriot dominated Jeff Bezos’ slate, the Boots Riley-created series that launches Friday on Prime Video is a revitalizing return to originality both for the platform and the franchise-heavy small screen itself.
Watch it, with both eyes open.
With dead-end basketball and branding deals, societal toxicity, fast food and a faster-moving love interest played in breakout fashion by Olivia Washington, the heart of the poetic show is 13-foot-tall Cootie, portrayed in towering fashion by Jharrel Jerome. Leading the 19-year-old Oakland native’s unsure steps to the outside world after years of being hidden, the When They See Us Emmy winner ups his already considerable game to unfurl a naturalism that grounds the magical realism all around him.

Producers White Lantern Film and Smc Speciality Finance have responded to losing a high court case against actress Eva Green in the UK over the collapse of their sci-fi pic A Patriot.
In a joint statement released Friday afternoon, the producers said they are “naturally disappointed” by the ruling in the case and are “carefully considering” their options, including a potential appeal.
Later in the statement, White Lantern and Smc Speciality Finance criticize what they describe as Green’s suggestion that the legal action filed against her was “motivated by or represented gender-based bullying,” describing her claims as “completely unwarranted.”
“It does not reflect the judgment in any way, nor the evidence that was heard at court,” the statement read.

Actress Eva Green has won her high court case in the UK against White Lantern and Smc Speciality Finance over the collapse of the sci-fi film A Patriot.
The case stems from the collapse of the UK project in late 2019, which Green was due to star in and executive-produce. The case was essentially about determining which party was to blame for the collapse, with both parties having competing narratives on the issue.
Green, whose credits include 2006’s Casino Royale and Robert Rodriguez’s Sin City, claimed she was entitled to a $1M fee she agreed to at the outset of the project, arguing that since she had a “pay or play” contract she was owed the money regardless of the film’s collapse before cameras rolled.

A producer on Eva Green’s failed film “A Patriot” has accused the project’s director Dan Pringle of being “inexperienced” and “starstruck.”
Jake Seal, who was brought in by financiers Sherborne Media Finance in an apparent bid to salvage the project after funding collapsed, was on the witness stand in London’s High Court on Tuesday to give evidence in the trial.
It was Seal, a producer and the owner of Hampshire-based production facility Black Hanger Studios, that Green called a “moron,” “pure vomit” and “the Devil” in private texts and emails that emerged during the pre-action discovery process. She also referred to his Black Hanger crew as “shitty peasants” and said Seal “needs to get fired.”
During cross-examination by Green’s lawyer, Edmund Cullen Kc, on Tuesday afternoon, Seal told the court of the project: “This is effectively a first-time director, very inexperienced, who has never worked with a studio before.

The most knowing moment of Siddharth Anand’s “Pathaan” comes when Shah Rukh Khan jokingly (but not humbly) remarks “I’m so sexy!”, ostensibly to his female co-star, but secretly to the audience. It’s true: he’s sexy and he knows it, and his long-awaited return to the screen as a leading man is a living, breathing reminder of that fact. Now at 57 years old, the Bollywood icon has pulled some sort of magic trick and seems to be ageing in reverse. In relative terms, he’s now two years older than Tom Cruise was at the time of filming the most physically-strenuous role of his career in “Mission: Impossible – Fallout”, and while it’s not likely he’s concerned with besting his Western rival’s mega-hit comeback in “Top Gun: Maverick”, Khan gives him a run for his money...

James Bond star Eva Green has said she feared making A Patriot could have killed her career as she took the stand in a legal battle with White Lantern Films, producer of the doomed British movie.
Green, whose credits include 2006’s Casino Royale and Robert Rodriguez’s Sin City, is suing White Lantern and Smc Speciality Finance for 1 million, the fee she says she is owed due to the collapse of the project in 2019. Green was due to star in and executive produce the pic.

Eva Green has told a London High Court that a low-budget version movie of a film she had signed on to make could have “killed my career.”
The actor, who has appeared in “Casino Royale” and “Penny Dreadful” among other projects, entered the witness box on Monday afternoon for her lawsuit against White Lantern (Britannica) Ltd over a 1 million fee she says is owed for a film called “A Patriot,” which fell apart in 2019 after it failed to secure production finance.
The original budget for the film, which was written and set to be directed by Dan Pringle, was set to be around 10 million. However, as the producers desperately tried to secure financing amid a rapidly changing independent film landscape the budget was slowly decreased without Green’s knowledge.

Eva Green’s lawyer said a lawsuit over the film “A Patriot,” which fell apart in 2019, was designed “to paint my client as a diva […] to damage her reputation.”
Green is suing White Lantern (Britannica) Ltd for her fee for the film, totalling approximately 1.04 million, which she says is owed to her under her “pay or play” agreement. White Lantern are counter-suing, accusing Green of “fraudulently misrepresent[ing] that she was ready, willing and able to perform her contractual obligations” and that she never had any intention of playing in the film.
In legal documents, White Lantern posit that Green referred to the film’s lenders as “arseholes” and referred to one of the company’s producers, Jake Seal, as a “moron” and “pure vomit.”

The late great Heath Ledger is mostly remembered for his versatility onscreen. Never daring to shy away from a challenge, he jumped from genre to genre. Whether drama, fantasy, romantic comedy, he was always up for an adventure and, as a casual observer of his work, Ledger was one of those talents that seamlessly slipped into whatever role he took on. From "Brokeback Mountain," where he played the leading love interest to Jake Gyllenhaal's character, to playing a California surfer-type in "Lords of Dogtown," and most notably portraying one of the best Jokers in cinema history in Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight," he truly could do it all.
However, at the very beginning of his career when he was cast in the teen comedy, "10 Things I Hate About You," the future could have gone completely differently for Ledger. Cast as the contrarian rebellious bad boy Patrick Verona,...

Marc Resteghini, head of series development at Amazon, is exiting the streaming giant amid a corporate restructuring of the TV production team. Head of studio creative Nick Pepper and head of series Laura Lancaster are expected to divide up Resteghini’s responsibilities and co-run the development and production of TV content, reporting to TV head Vernon Sanders.
The e-commerce giant’s acquisition of MGM and its television production studio do not factor into these changes. Additionally, Resteghini is currently negotiating a producing deal at Amazon.
Prior to assuming the top position in February 2021, Resteghini served in various capacities at Amazon Studios, including head of drama series, head of current drama programming and senior executive in the drama department.

Amazon Studios is making a big change in its TV executive ranks.
Marc Resteghini, the head of series development and an eight-year veteran at Amazon, is leaving at e-commerce giant/streamer.
The executive who first joined Amazon’s drama team in 2014 when the streamer’s entertainment offerings were overseen by former head Roy Price, has played a major role in the company’s original, having developed and overseen production on such series as The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Jack Ryan, Patriot, The Summer I Turned Pretty, The Terminal List, Underground Railroad and Them, among others.
Sources say head of TV Vernon Sanders is restructuring his ranks after being tapped last year as the lone exec overseeing the TV team. With the restructuring, Resteghini’s job was eliminated and his duties will be doled out between the studio’s head of creative content Nick Pepper...

When far-right Republican Joe Kent announced he was running for Congress in February of 2021, he also signed up for Gab — a social meda platform that even fellow Republicans have called a “cesspool of bigotry and anti-semitism.” But for almost a year after Kent’s announcement, his Gab his account didn’t exactly take off, languishing at a couple thousand followers well into the summer.
Then something funny happened. In December, months after he’d announced his candidacy, Kent’s Gab account saw a sudden spike of over 7,000 new followers, according...

Less than two weeks after the siege of the Capitol on January 6, 2021, Fox News dismissed its political editor, Chris Stirewalt, in what the network said was a restructuring, and he said was a firing.
As many media reporters and commentators noted, Stirewalt had defended the network’s correct call of Arizona for Joe Biden on Election Night, the first sign that Donald Trump would lose the race. What resulted was a backlash from Trump and his supporters, not just “insane rage” directed at the network, but against Stirewalt himself. One Republican senator, Kevin Cramer, accused him of a “cover-up,” as if Stirewalt himself had been counting votes.
His new book, Broken News: Why the Media Rage Machine Divides America and How to Fight Back, delves into his dismissal, but this is hardly a tell-all, or singularly focused expose of what’s happened to his former employer.

The market for international shoots in the Czech Republic is “on the edge of a precipice,” says Vratislav Slajer, the head of the country’s main industry group, the Assn. of Audiovisual Producers.
Speaking to industry colleagues on Sunday at the Karlovy Vary Intl. Film Festival, Czech producers warned that they are witnessing the impending loss of more than a decade of progress in bringing in foreign shoots – and the prospect of witnessing billions going to other countries.
The Czech government suspended film production incentives this year, citing a spending crisis brought on by the need to rescue businesses hit by Covid losses and to accommodate over 300,000 war refugees from Ukraine.
But, says, Slajer, “It’s a false argument.”
Booming film productions would offer lots of jobs to Ukrainians, for one thing, he posits. “We can help solve the crisis – we can bring in more money.”

Not many filmmakers can boast a 99 Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes for their small-scale debut, as Alex Thompson earned with 2019’s “Saint Frances.” Fewer still follow up with an even stronger second act.
Thompson co-wrote “Rounding” with his physician brother Christopher, and their psychological freakout is possessed of an almost visionary intensity. He’s described this film as inspired by the B-movie thrillers he watched on TV as a kid, but that significantly undersells its lingering power.
Indeed, the B-movie moments — ominous threats, manifested demons — are the weaker spots in an otherwise taut and terrifying emotional nightmare.

The limited series “Perpetual Grace Ltd” aired over the summer from June to August, so it might have fallen under the radar as the Emmys for the previous TV season were still being decided, but with the Golden Globes and SAG Awards approaching it might be time for awards voters to say “Grace,” especially with a showcase performance by Ben Kingsley at the heart of it.
Created by Steven Conrad and Bruce Terris (Amazon‘s “Patriot“), the series follows a young grifter (Jimmi Simpson) who tries to prey on Pastor Byron Brown (Kingsley), but the pastor is more dangerous than he bargained for. It’s a villainous role that has been compared to Kingsley’s turn in “Sexy Beast” (2001), which earned him one of his four Oscar nominations and one of his eight Golden Globe noms. He plays Pastor Brown “with a slight tinge of menace from the very beginning” that is “quickly” unleashed.

With Steve Rogers now gone, the Marvel universe needs a new Captain America. Avengers: Endgame led us to believe that this was to be Sam Wilson, but we’re hearing the situation’s not as straightforward as we thought. Apparently, the McU might be home to multiple Captain Americas in the near future.
Yesterday, we brought you the news that Marvel is planning on having a diverse range of different Caps running around the franchise. This doesn’t necessarily mean that there’ll be numerous heroes all going by the same alias, though, as we’ve heard that the Young Avengers’ Patriot is being counted as one of these Captain Americas. Along with Sam Wilson, Eli Bradley will make two black Cap-related characters in the McU.

Any plans that John Tavner had for future missions have been cancelled -- permanently. Amazon has decided not to order season three of its Patriot TV series.
Streaming on the Amazon Prime Video paid subscription platform, Patriot stars Michael Dorman, Michael Chernus, Terry O’Quinn, Kathleen Munroe, Kurtwood Smith, Aliette Opheim, Chris Conrad, Julian Richings, Gil Bellows, and Marcus Toji.
This political thriller follows intelligence officer John Tavner (Dorman). With only his unsafe “non-official cover” as a mid-level employee at an industrial piping firm, Tavner is on assignment to stop Iran from going nuclear. Lingering Ptsd, governmental ineptitude, and meeting the requirements of his cover, cause spiraling blunders which threaten his mission. His penchant for smoking pot and writing all too confessional folks songs don’t help matters. And then there’s the trail of dead and maimed bodies he leaves in his wake.Read More…...
