Keeley Hawes, the star of BBC/Netflix hit Bodyguard and upcoming films Misbehaviour and Ben Wheatley's Rebecca adaptation, is set to take the lead in Honour, a two-part drama for British TV giant ITV.
Written by Gwyneth Hughes (Vanity Fair, Dark Angel, Remember Me), Honour tells the real-life story of Detective Chief Inspector Caroline Goode’s passionate search to discover the fate of missing 20-year-old Banaz Mahmod, a young Londoner murdered by her own family for falling in love with the wrong man.

On Liar, Joanne Froggatt (of Downton Abbey fame) plays school teacher Laura Nielson, who accuses a handsome widowed doctor (Ioan Gruffudd) of drugging and raping her. The two go out for dinner, where they hit it off, before heading back to Laura’s apartment. Once inside, they flirt over a couple glasses of wine before Laura wakes up alone in bed the next morning, with the sick feeling that she’s been sexually assaulted.
The British miniseries airing on SundanceTV isn’t so much a show about rape, but rather, what happens when someone reports a rape. What unfolds over the six episodes (which will draw to a “satisfying conclusion,” Froggatt tells Et) is scrutiny of Laura’s past as well as the night of the incident, a decision to go public that polarizes friends and family as the show’s anti-heroine becomes more and more unstable.

Dark Angel improves, but despite Joanne Froggatt’s efforts, not enough to offer more than a tabloid retelling of a shocking tale…

As we’d been warned they would, the tables turn for serial poisoner Mary Ann Cotton in part two of ITV’s Dark Angel. Her social ascendency is thwarted by suspicion and the fragility of life for the Victorian poor. People around her are dropping like flies, and not all of them due to her arsenic-laced tea.
Perversely, it was only when things began to spin out of control for Cotton that the drama started to find its grip on her character. At least, that’s when a sense of her finally emerged as more than a...

Life was tough for the nineteenth century poor. If the insalubrious lodgings and back-breaking work didn’t get you, Typhus would. Or Gastric Fever. Or childbirth, if you were unlucky enough to have a functioning womb and had a husband that wouldn’t “whip it out” before he was done.
Another existential threat lurked in the compact form of Mary-Ann Cotton, dubbed ‘Britain’s First Female Serial Killer’. Played here by Downton Abbey’s Joanne Froggatt, Cotton is the subject of two-part drama Dark Angel,...

Don't expect Joanne Froggatt to show up to tonight's Emmy Awards in her Downton Abbey maid's uniform.
The actress, who plays Anna the lady's maid, has said that she will miss the show but not what she's had to wear over its six series.
14 things that happen in every Downton Abbey episode
"I used to love wearing black at home but I've noticed I don't so much since Downton," she told The Telegraph's Stella magazine.
However, Froggatt did admit there was an advantage to having a limited wardrobe on the show, and not just because she could lie down at lunchtime without fear of ruining a delicate and very expensive dress.
"We barely had to do any costume fittings," she explained. "We'd get two dresses at the beginning of the series and that would be that for six months of shooting. Whereas Michelle, Laura and the others were going in...

Joanne Froggatt has begun filming her first project since wrapping up her time in Downton Abbey earlier this month.
The actress will play serial murderer Mary Ann Cotton in ITV's upcoming Victorian drama Dark Angel, which has started shooting in North Yorkshire and County Durham.
Froggatt's character sounds like the complete opposite to Downton's dependable maid Anna Bates, as she has a secret history of adultery, bigamy, fraud and murder.
With each killing, Cotton increases her social and financial standing in Victorian society, while no-one suspects that she could be behind the horrendous crimes. So don't mess with her.
Dark Angel will also star Alun Armstrong, Jonas Armstrong, Laura Morgan, Sam Hoare, Emma Fielding and Penny Layden.
ITV will soon announce the airdates for the two-part series.
Froggatt will return for the final series of Downton Abbey next month, which will conclude with its Christmas special on Christmas Day.
