Good Luck
claudio_carvalho8 May 2023
Good Luck In London, a wealthy man commits suicide after the death of his beloved wife jumping off the balcony of his apartment. The down-to-lucky detective Harry Clayton is an addicted gambler that after losing his own home, forced his wife, the barrister Anna, to leave him with their daughter Daisy. Harry is a good detective and his partner is the young detective Chohan Suri, who is a bright woman. Harry has a debt of 140 thousand pounds to the Chinese Freddie Lau, who own the casino where Harry has credit to gamble. One night, Harry meets the beautiful and sexy Eve in the casino and she suggests the numbers to gamble and Harry wins half of his debts. They have one night stand and, in the morning, Eve has left him with an irremovable bangle and the message of Good Luck on the mirror. But now, Freddy Law and stripper Kayleigh Fenchurch are murdered and Harry and Suri have to investigate the cases. Harry goes rogue with his sources and his chief Alistair Winter suspects of him.

"More Yang Than Yin" is a promising and mysterious series based on a story created by Stan Lee. This pilot shows an intriguing bangle capable to give luck to the person who owns it. The mysterious Eve, a gorgeous woman that gave the bangle to Harry. This complex and ambiguous detective is a complex character with a serious addition, gambling, but also a family man and an efficient detective. The cliffhanger conclusion seems to be a promising sequel. My vote is eight.

What a thrilling and funny start with Mr Nesbitt on electric form.

Warning: Spoilers
There was much hype and intrigue surrounding this British made comic book type series created by Marvel genius Stan Lee and more and more trailers prove that this looked the business, after a campy start it became truly excellent.

Marvellous Irish actor James Nesbitt(last seen in the finale to The Hobbit movie franchise)plays the role of shady and troubled cop Harry Clayton who seems to have awful luck and this includes running up a huge debt to Chinese gangster Freddie Lau and spends most his time trying to win money at Lau's casino to pay him back.

After a warning from Lau to finally pay the debt Harry has three days to get the money but after another go at winning the money a beautiful lady seems to pass on great luck to Harry and he wins half the debt.

Harry has a drunken one night stand with the woman and wakes up to find a strange bracelet on his arm(the same one the lady had on before)that seems to give the wearer good luck.

But as things begin to happen including Lau and a maybe connected woman get murdered along with another gangland boss having a dispute with Lau as well as trouble in his personal life will Harry have good luck with this strange bracelet or is there something sinister behind it(just who is the lady too)and just why do his colleagues have a problem with him.

James Nesbitt has to be one of the most underrated actors around and whatever he stars in is worth watching and this is another prime example of his talents as here is a guy who you know is a bit of a dirty cop and keeps doing the wrong thing even if he thinks it is the right thing but we cheer him on regardless and lets face it the likes of Del Boy Trotter and John Luther do wrong things all the time but we still love them.Nesbitt is truly superb and even under supreme pressure always raises a laugh.

The other cast members are a bit sidelined to be honest but I do like Amara Karen as Harry's sidekick DS Suri Chohan and Steven Mackintosh as Harry's boss(and after seeing him in Luther he might be hiding something again)but this is Jimmy Nesbitt's show really.

Its really a crime thriller with some supernatural and comic book style visuals thrown in but I was gripped for the whole hour with neat twists and turns and though the bracelet isn't a huge part yet it will soon.

A excellent pilot episode that zipped by with a interesting spin on traditional cop shows and had plenty of twists and turns already and in Jimmy Nesbitt a outstanding lead actor who always makes you chuckle.
