The Slow episodes give way to a fantastic finale .Episode 8 sets the tone for the Season Finale. Josh Harnett and Wes become Werewolfs and face Dracula. .This episode is worth the wait..It pays homage to Horror movies and the entire genre of horror

Slambang action/violence hits the spot

My favorite episodes of "Penny Dreadful" are the ones that are reflective and more like a stage play, the best example being the recent two-hander with Eva & Rory in her asylum "padded cell", a terrific character study and display of interaction. But the masses must be served, and this Damon Thomas-directed segment provided tons of gory action and violence footage for that part of me who adores shows like "Banshee" too.
It was good enough, and had enough plot advancing material, to make up for the complete absence of Eva Green, the show's central character. Sure, Miss Ives was referred to frequently verbally and was the object of Talbot's search, but not seeing her was a tough pill for me to swallow.
The morbid nature of the material Logan chose for this series is emphasized this time out, and was a bit hard to take at times. Certainly the painful soliloquoy Piper on her past traumas (get the BAFTA award ready in my parallel universe where shows like this can win) was terrific, but Dorian Gray's mercy killing of her young ward was too much for my sensibilities. I put that down to the pernicious trend in 21st Century series television to keeping the fans guessing and bloody well satisfied by killing off crucial characters periodically.
For me, I long for the days when I was growing up and the comfort of the nuclear families on TV shows or even the crew on "Perry Mason", his team and the opposition Tragg & Burger also, were intact and always there on the Boob Tube when you needed them for entertaining escape.
