Film was very expensive in those days. There was no way the camera man would keep the camera running after the Director had called cut to capture the conversation that they reviewed in the cutting room.
The film projector used by Vivian Wolsey to view the rushes is 16 mm. But by the 1950s, 35 mm was the standard size for movie-making.
