Fresh-faced rookie Tye Sheridan is led through a world of medical grimness by a grizzled Penn in a tale full of lifeless cliche
There are some strident cliches alongside redundant self-harming machismo in this sub-Schraderesque movie about New York paramedics, directed by Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire and adapted from the novel by Shannon Burke. Sirens screaming and faces emoting, they battle through another dark-night-of-the-soul as they deal with gang shootings, domestic assaults, homeless people dying and crack addicts giving birth in hovels. They are often assigned the futile chore of attending to corpses discovered in decaying buildings, surrounded by black flies – but aren’t all the other patients just corpses in waiting? And so the black flies of horror start buzzing into their brains.
Tye Sheridan co-stars as Ollie, the standard-issue Hollywood rookie, a fresh-faced young ambulance guy from Colorado (of all the poignantly innocent places) paired in time-honoured style with a grizzled old-timer.

File this under “extremely unlikely reunions”: Charlie Sheen and Chuck Lorre are set to work together again.
Sheen will have a recurring part on Lorre’s Max comedy How to Be a Bookie, starring comedian Sebastian Maniscalco. The reunion for Sheen and Lorre will come 12 years after Sheen’s scorched-earth departure from CBS’ Two and a Half Men in 2011.
Max and Warner Bros. TV, which is producing How to Be a Bookie, declined to comment.
In 2011, Sheen’s erratic behavior and verbal potshots at Lorre, who co-created the hugely successful Two and a Half Men, led to his firing from the sitcom. His character, Charlie Harper, was written out by having supposedly died on a trip with stalker Rose (Melanie Lynskey) — though in the series finale, it’s hinted that Charlie is still alive. The show ends with a body double as Charlie having a piano dropped on him,...

While hosting “The Daily Show,” Chelsea Handler had some choice words for Tucker Carlson on Tuesday night.
Zeroing in on what Carlson has referred to on-air as “race-based hiring,” the comedian figured out exactly why the Fox News figurehead should be a supporter of President Joe Biden’s diverse court appointments: “Now you can blame all of your problems on women and Black people.”
“I wish Tucker Carlson would go back to talking about which M&Ms he’d like to f—,” Handler joked, referring to how the host spent months attacking the brand’s minor “woke” changes.

“What are you even complaining about?” Handler continued. “Having diversity in power is a dream come true for guys like you. Now you can blame all your problems on women and Black people.

Moving through the lobby of a posh Santa Monica hotel one May afternoon, Jerrod Carmichael is not so much walking as strutting. Tall and slender, he’s wearing a black cashmere sweater, matching pants, loafers, an Afro pick, and an outsize smile. And then there’s the brooch: Stunning gold. Cursive font. The letter R. “I love it so much,” Carmichael says, gazing down to admire the pin. It was a gift from a friend a few weeks ago, for Carmichael’s 35th birthday. Ever since, he’s been “building outfits around it.

9/11 truther Rosie O’Donnell will sit down with members of the conspiracy group Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth, the group announced Wednesday. The interview, set up to promote a new film from conspiracy theorist Dylan Avery, includes multiple individuals who were cut from Spike Lee’s HBO docuseries “NYC Epicenters 9/11-2021½.”
Avery’s film, titled “The Unspeakable,” is described as “a feature-length documentary that follows four families in their ongoing struggle to find out the truth about the death of their loved ones 20 years ago in the destruction of the World Trade Center.” Avery made his name as a filmmaker with the 2005 documentary “Loose Change,” which posited that Sept. 11 terrorist attacks were a false flag operation and would go on to become one of central texts for the 9/11 truther movement.
O’Donnell has a history of promoting 9/11 conspiracy theories, having said she “still [does] not believe the official story” of the attacks.

Updated with cuts confirmed: Spike Lee has excised a portion of the final chapter of his NYC Epicenters 9/11➔2021½ docuseries about 9/11 that features interviews with individuals and groups that believe the Twin Towers were brought down via a controlled explosion as part of a broader conspiracy.
Deadline has confirmed that about 30 mins have been removed from the episode, which is scheduled to air September 11, the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks. Those 30 minutes include all the exchange and theories about how the Twin Towers collapsed.
Lee said Wednesday that he was going back to the editing room after criticism that the episode contained interviews with the Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth. He also told the New York Times that he still had questions over what really happened on that day in 2001, when two hijacked planes were flown into the World Trade Center towers as part of a coordinated attack, killing almost 3,000 in New York City.

Director Spike Lee is coming under fire after TV critics revealed that part of his upcoming documentary on 9/11, titled “NYC Epicenters 9/11→2021½” and airing on HBO, would include lengthy segments on 9/11 conspiracy theories — so much airtime that it seemed an endorsement of the theories. He has now announced that he’s reediting the final episode of the show, airing on September 11, 2021, the 20th anniversary of the attacks, though he gave no specifics about what exactly he will edit or whether it’s even in response to the controversy. Requests to Lee for comment went unanswered at press time. Here’s the timeline of events as we understand it. We will continue to update this article as events develop.
Lee has had a proclivity for presenting conspiracy theories in the past. In his 2006 documentary on Hurricane Katrina, “When the Levees Broke,” Lee alleged that the levees were dynamited in order to flood Black neighborhoods.

Premiering back at Sundance Film Festival in 2020, it’s not surprising there’s been a wait to see Worth, written by Max Borenstein and directed by Sara Colangelo. Picked up by Netflix timed to the 20th anniversary of 9/11, the drama follows Congress-appointed attorney Kenneth Feinberg (Michael Keaton), who runs the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund. Along with his firm partner Camille Biros (Amy Ryan), Feinberg quickly produces a formula by which to calculate what each victim’s loved ones are owed. While Charles Wolf (Stanley Tucci), a community organizer mourning the death of his wife, enters the picture, their plans get complicated. Ahead of a September 3 debut on Netflix, the first trailer has now arrived.

Nat Geo announced a couple weeks into the coronavirus production shutdown that the premiere date for its “Genius: Aretha” series would be delayed from its original Memorial Day slot.
Now, the Disney-owned network has revealed the Cynthia Erivo-led series about the Queen of Soul will premiere sometime this fall. The announcement was made as part of Nat Geo’s virtual upfront presentations. “Genius: Aretha” was still in production when concerns about the pandemic caused it to follow almost every production across the country in shutting down.
Nat Geo has also ordered a whole slew of new and returning unscripted shows. Among them is a new series called “Breaking Bobby Bones” (working title) which will see the “American Idol” mentor travel to far-flung destinations across the country to find people with unique jobs, skills, hobbies and abilities, before attempting to perform those same tricks himself.

In the first episode of Michael Moore’s new podcast, Rumble, he tells a story of being given a gift of a new reel-to-reel tape recorder as a child, kicking off his media career. He taped everyone in sight, produced his own ad-hoc version of The Tonight Show before nap time, and went on to launch his own newspaper at school. In an amusing precursor of future events, the paper would be shut down almost right away after criticism of school sports programs.
