Louise states that Harry has carbon copies of his manuscript. At the time (1958), carbon paper was used to make copies of written or typed original materials, carbon paper which has dried ink on the back side to imprint onto another sheet of paper below i.e. the original paper on which one writes or types is on top, followed by the carbon paper, followed by another clean sheet of paper which will ultimately be the carbon copy. Only a limited number of carbon copies can be produced at one time, the number dependent upon how hard one can write or type to imprint through several sheets of paper, each successive sheet of paper away from the original more faded in tone in having less imprint of the carbon.
