Slade has been hiding out. We are right about everything he has done, but until now, we haven't known his motives. Alexa comes into the picture and Mark is able to talk to her. They bring her to what appears a safe place, but she stupidly goes outside, away from her protection, and gets captured. She is keeping a thumb drive with some heavy stuff on it about a major scam. It was given to her by her mother before she was killed. So now all parties get involved in a sort of ludicrous confrontation in a house. We then find out what sorts of things have happened, and we get to hear a speech by Slade, explaining why he did it (whatever). Anyway, things now can settle down for a bit. There are some other secrets revealed, including our taciturn police officer being quite handy with a baseball bat around the time Jesse disappeared. Apparently, he is suppressing quite the violent side. One thing that bothers me is that his father, who appears to be an Alzheimer's victim, can barely talk most of the time, and then goes into a long articulated explanation when the chips are down.
