Very Engaging.

It seemed like no matter what I did, I kept letting people down. I started thinking how everyone's lives would be better without me. And what does that feel like? It feels like nothing. Like a deep, endless, always blank nothing." - Hannah Baker

This is the first episode where the tape is the B-plot. Everybody else gets a lot more room to shine in this episode, and gets a lot more to say. Even Clay is a smaller player this episode, not doing much until the final 25 minutes. This really works for the most part, as we finally get some better understandings of where these characters are coming from.

The tape itself is about the final party that Hannah goes to before her suicide. It happens to be Bryce's party, which she goes to after she makes a huge mistake in accidentally losing a bunch of money that her parents entrusted her with. She goes, and at first has a good time, until Bryce enters the hot tub with her and eventually rapes her. Like the last time this happened, it's a well-done scene done with taste and tact. This is the event that pushes Hannah to make the tapes and to eventually kill herself a week after the party.

Clay's story this episode involves him going to Bryce's house in order to get a confession out of him about how he raped Hannah. He gets it, but at the cost of getting severely beaten up, and he celebrates by escaping Bryce's house. We don't see him after that, which makes me wonder what'll happen next, especially given the end of the episode. But we'll get there.

The rest of the teens involved with Hannah's tapes meet at Monet's in a sometimes hilarious and character building scene, in which they mostly agree to finally tell the police the truth. The entire truth. How that plays out will have to be seen in the next episode, but I'm hoping they actually do it and don't skimp out on it.

Justin gets thrown out of his house while Jessica tries to stop drinking, and something happens at the end of the episode. We hear ambulances going by Clay's house at night, and then we hear in the ambulance that a 17 year-old has been shot, and somebody is dying. We don't know who yet, but since we've got one more episode, I'm sure we're gonna find out.

All in all, this episode is a really good one. It doesn't compare to some recent ones, or the last episode, but it does manage to effectively set things up for the finale, and manages to craft an entertaining and well-written story to boot. There's only 60 minutes left in 13 Reasons Why, how do they all tie it up?

+The truth is finally coming out

+Character development

+The Monet's scene

+Bryce's story

+The Killing Moon

+Great writing

Tape 6, Side B (#1.12)
ComedyFan20107 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Well the first tape where something indeed horrible happened to Hannah. Bryce raped her as well. So this is what triggered her suicide. But while I do feel a bit more empathy for her now I still dislike her character. I still feel worse for Jessica. I still think she is the second worse person in this story (after Bryce of course) for harassing people after her death. Sure, I get why she would do it to Bryce, but not the rest.

I also don't get why they all have so many worries telling the truth. The only ones who can really be in trouble are Bryce and Sheri. Why would Alex, Courtney, Ryan etc. be worried?. Is there more to come or is it just some moral thing they try to project on the teenagers how this nonsense that happened between some of them is "bullying"?.

Well we have a big question now who is that 17 year old who got shot. They want to make us think it is Clay by having his mom discover that he didn't come home. But I think that either Tyler or Justin shot someone. Tyler that guy who was harassing him or Justin Bryce. We'll see in the last episode.

Painful Episode

Warning: Spoilers
This episode was so painful to watch. Hannah states she wondered how better off everyone's lives would be if she were not there. She lost her parents' money and makes other small mistakes. It is so difficult to get genuine help and care for suicidal or depressed thoughts. Psychiatry, psychology and/or therapy takes time and connecting with the right professionals that click with you is hard to find. I was absolutely disgusted by Bryce. Jessica urges Hannah to take off her clothes and join them in the hot tub because underwear is a bikini. Bryce proceeds to rape Hannah when they are alone in the hot tub - his reasons being she was not wearing a suit, she had the looks, girls play around. He asked Clay if he was a virgin which absolutely should not matter!!! He was surprised Clay was a stoner and wanted to buy weed because his image was clean - personally, for me, I prefer good guys. The actor who played Bryce was very talented - I absolutely hated his character - he played the part very well. I see so many guys of all ages act like the way how these boys do - their mannerisms and attitude were pretty realistic. This episode is worth to rewatch - it has so many different storylines for each character and the real issues teenagers have. Justin also has his own issues despite being the handsome jock. He has issues at home with his mom and her lack of care - she has a violent boyfriend and Justin often goes without food or necessities. Many issues are all tied up into this one episode which makes it rewatch worthy despite the painful scenes.

No! Not buying it!
Just-A-Girl-1410 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I'm binge watching the show. Up until this episode I really liked it but this episode seems very unrealistic to me. From other reviews I read it seems to me that most people were waiting for something "big" to happen to Hannah to justify her suicide. I think it's the wrong way to look at it. People who suffer from depression do not need a huge thing to happen to them. Many times it's one little thing after another. So far it seems that almost anywhere Hannah went to try to find friendship and solace turned out to be a disappointment. If you think about it, take Tyler Down for example. He is exactly the kind of kid who might show up at school with a gun and start shooting everywhere. Why? There is not one reason. It a lot of little things (combined with his personality) that may cause it. Pushing him in the hallway, breaking his things, calling him names, pushing him aside and isolating him. Yes, many kids eat that same kind of crap on a daily basis and never show up at school with a gun but in some rare cases others just do. It's the same with Hannah, imho. If she is depressed and things do not go well for her (losing friends, nasty rumors, bad decisions etc) she may choose to end her life simply because she is in pain. I actually liked that message. When we are doing mean things that may be insignificant to us, it may not be insignificant for someone else. It's a good thing to remember because often we can make other people's lives much better if we just be more kind to one another.

With that said, being depressed does NOT mean being stupid! She just saw Bryce Walker raping Jessica. In fact, she was so scared (and drunk) she couldn't even move or make a sound from her hiding place inside the closet. So I'm not buying the story that she heard a party at his house, couldn't resist going in, removing her clothes and jumping into his hot tub. Sorry but it makes zero sense to me. If the show creators wanted her character to be raped it should have happened at Jessica's party after Clay left, when she was drunk and alone. But not like that. And saying that she went to the party because she wasn't thinking doesn't make any sense because she was clearly traumatized from what she saw. I also think it's the wrong message. People who kill themselves often suffer from a mental illness, severe stress or constant abuse. It's the pain and desperation that drive them to the end.

I didn't like that episode at all. Hannah being raped is the wrong way to go. Especially since after an event like that a young woman like her would be way too traumatized to make those tapes. Some people commit suicide at a spare of the moment. These cases usually happen because of a significant horrible event but those who think about it and plan it often suffer from a long lasting abuse and they just reach the point they feel they can't carry on any longer.
