Daisy Ridley is set to make a splash as swimming champion Gertrude “Trudy” Ederle in the upcoming biographical drama movie Young Woman and the Sea. However, on Monday, she failed to leave much of an impression while making the rounds on the media circuit to promote her latest project.
Ridley, styled by Leith Clark, donned four ensembles in one day, but only one drew my attention. This surprised me because I’ve always admired her taste for elegant, timeless, and flattering ensembles. Although her clothing choices are stylish, I don’t think they fit her figure well.

The 2003 premiere of The Curse of the Black Pearl launched the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, a series of movies that soon became one of the most popular franchises of all time and was a massive success for Disney. The franchise was led by one of the biggest stars of that period, Johnny Depp, whose charismatic appearance as Jack Sparrow became a pillar of pop culture. While we cannot deny that the overall quality of the movies dropped by the time the fifth movie was released, as a whole, it is still one of the most popular franchises of all time. Now, it has been seven years since the last movie in the series, and while we did know that Disney was working on reviving the franchise, we did not know – due to conflicting reports – what they were working on.

Daisy Ridley still hasn't seen the finished script for her new 'Star Wars' movie. The 32-year-old actress is reprising her role as Rey in a new film set to follow her rebuilding the Jedi Order after defeating Emperor Palpatine in 2019's 'The Rise of Skywalker', but she is yet to read final draft.Asked if she'd seen a copy, she told Collider: "That has not changed yet - but it is imminently about to change."When it comes to stepping back into the character of Rey, Ridley admitted there were some challenges despite the familiarity of the role. She explained: "So this one feels the same because I'm playing a character I’ve played before, but it's different because it's been many years."I would hope I'm coming back as a richer artist, but also I'm in different hands, so that's interesting and new."A different story. “Pirates of the Caribbean” producer Jerry Bruckheimer has provided more clarity on the current state of the Disney adventure franchise. He already teased in March that a total reboot was going to be the first “Pirates” movie out of the gate in the future because “it’s easier to put together because you don’t have to wait for certain actors.” This reboot is now confirmed to have writer Jeff Nathanson attached. Bruckheimer announced the news in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
Nathanson also wrote the screenplay for the last “Pirates” movie, 2017’s “Dead Men Tell No Tales,” which was directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg. Rønning and Nathanson, as well as Bruckheimer, have reunited on the new Disney biographical drama “Young Woman and the Sea.”

After persistent rumors, we finally got confirmation that Daisy Ridley is set to return as Rey for a new post-sequel trilogy Star Wars movie during 2023's Star Wars Celebration event.
Ridley will reprise her role as Rey "Skywalker" for director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's movie, which will be set a whole fifteen years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. Plot details are still mostly under wraps, but we do know that Rey will be a "powerful Jedi master" running her own training academy when we catch up with her.
Shortly after the announcement, rumors began to do the rounds that John Boyega was set to join his co-star as former Stormtrooper Finn. Ridley was asked about the reports while speaking to THR on the red carpet for her latest film, Young Woman and the Sea, and while she mostly side-stepped the question, she did offer the following.

The road to a Pirates of the Caribbean follow-up has been a long and bumpy one. Even before Johnny Depp’s public image troubles with the messy divorce involving him and ex-wife Amber Heard, Disney couldn’t lock down a solid way to continue the franchise with or without the face of the series — Captain Jack Sparrow. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has thrown around a number of concepts, one of them involving Margot Robbie (which received conflicting reports on whether or not Disney passed on it) and one of them involving a new cast of younger actors. Bruckheimer confirmed recently that it will be a full-on reboot.
The elephant in the room will always be if Johnny Depp will make an appearance in some form for the new movies. Jerry Bruckheimer was recently interviewed on the red carpet of his new Disney movie with Daisy Ridley, Young Woman and the Sea,...

The film, directed by Joachim Rønning and produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films, had its world premiere this week, where Ridley talked about her intense training and filming in the Black Sea.
“I was really alone in the Black Sea, and I was really trying to keep pace with the camera,” she told Deadline during the premiere. “And then I was trying to keep pace with the boat and the camera boat. I trained for three months and then we were training during filming.”
She continued, “And then we did the big swim at the end. So it was nine days in the Black Sea. It was overwhelming. It was cold. Each time, it was scary.”

Daisy Ridley trades in her Star Wars lightsaber for a pair of goggles in new film Young Woman and the Sea, telling the real-life story of the first woman to successfully swim the English Channel.
Ridley plays Trudy Ederle, who made the 21-mile swim in 1926 and broke down barriers for women in the sport along the way, but whose story is not commonly known. At the Los Angeles premiere on Thursday, Ridley told The Hollywood Reporter that she wasn’t much of a swimmer before the project, acknowledging, “I would walk into a pool and I would stand there, and sometimes I would do a hold my breath competition, but I had never done a full length of the pool. Daisy Ridley shot to fame as the leading protagonist Rey in Star Wars’ sequel trilogy. She shared screen space with newcomers Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, and John Boyega, as well as Star Wars veterans such as Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford in the films. The films were divisive in their responses, with creator George Lucas himself not being a fan.
After Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, which ended Rey’s arc, Ridley has been keeping busy with other projects and has also begun a career as an executive producer. However, she will be returning as Rey in an upcoming Star Wars film. Ridley mentioned that she almost manifested a Rey-centered film right before meeting with LucasFilm CEO Kathleen Kennedy.

Having survived a feverishly debated Star Wars trilogy, Daisy Ridley is forging her own path – and taking control.
For Daisy Ridley, the thrill comes first and the fear comes later.
While wading in the middle of the Black Sea for Joachim Rønning’s rousing 1920s-set biopic Young Woman And The Sea, in which she stars as Trudy Ederle, the first woman to swim across the English Channel, Ridley’s aversion to open-water swimming confronted her fully. “You know when you go in the sea?” she asks. “I never go beyond where I can see my feet. The whole thing was such an exploration of things I don’t really like.” Her voice sing-songs: “The lies we tell for the jobs we do!”
Of course, the London-born actor is well-acquainted with treacherous waters. At the age of 21, Ridley was plucked from anonymity to lead the Star Wars sequel trilogy as Rey,...

Since her Star Wars trilogy ended, Daisy Ridley has largely ploughed herself into indie fare. She’s soon to be seen in morbid drama Sometimes I Think About Dying, and led Neil Burger’s psychological thriller The Marsh King’s Daughter – but next, she’s switching gears again. She’s the titular young woman of Young Woman And The Sea, which is a character-focused human drama – but not an indie film. No, it's a Disney production from producer Jerry Bruckheimer, with Ridley playing Gertrude 'Trudy' Ederle – the 1920s American swimming champion who made it her mission to swim the English Channel. Check out the trailer here:
Anyone else feeling nippy just watching that? For all that Rey had Daisy Ridley leaping through Star Destroyer caverns and fighting for her life in snowy battlefields, this looks like a different kind of physical challenge – heading into the deep end (literally) for a tale of personal and psychological endurance.

Daisy Ridley‘s acting career since “Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker” has been, let’s say, uneven. Sure, “Sometimes I Think About Dying” is a provocative character study and a solid performance by the actress. But then there’s stuff Doug Liman‘s dismal “Chaos Walking” and “The Marsh King’s Daughter,” two films not exactly tailor-made for Ridley’s talents.

"C'mon girl, kick your feet!" Disney has revealed an official trailer for their summer movie Young Woman and the Sea, based on the true story of the first woman to ever swim across the English Channel. It's set to open at the end of May and we've been waiting to finally see a trailer. "21 miles and a nice day for a swim." Daisy Ridley stars as Trudy Ederle, an American woman who grew up in Manhattan and learned to swim in New Jersey. After winning a gold medal at the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris, she eventually made the incredible English Channel swim from France to England in 1926 at the age of 20. This also co-stars Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Stephen Graham, Kim Bodnia, Christopher Eccleston, and Glenn Fleshler. It's directed by Norwegian filmmaker Joachim Rønning (of Kon-Tiki and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales), adapted from Glenn Stout's book,...

From “Top Gun” and “Beverly Hills Cop” to “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “National Treasure,” Jerry Bruckheimer has had a hand in many of the biggest blockbusters in Hollywood history. But in a video message revealed to the crowd at CinemaCon, the legendary producer said that his latest project, “Young Woman and the Sea” is his highest testing movie ever.
The upcoming film, which Bruckheimer produced for Disney, stars Daisy Ridley as Gertrude “Trudy” Ederle, the Olympic swimmer who became the first woman to successfully swim the English Channel in 1926. She also set a record for the fastest time — beating the five men who had accomplished the feat before her — that remained intact for a quarter century.
Per the film’s official synopsis, “Daisy Ridley stars as the accomplished swimmer who was born to immigrant parents in New York City in 1905. Through the steadfast support of her older sister and supportive trainers,...

You know what I miss? Disney's inspirational true story dramas and sports movies. As easy and often valid as it is to poke holes in their predictable narrative structures and complain about them reducing even the most unbelievable real-life events to a cookie-cutter formula, we could do with some earnest, uplifting pictures about marginalized people defying the odds to realize their dreams right about now. We got some pretty good -- not to mention culturally sensitive -- ones in the '10s, too, including "McFarland, USA" and "Queen of Katwe." Sadly, however, modest to disappointing box office returns have since led to those types of offerings being relegated to streaming only (see also: the underappreciated Willem Dafoe adventure film "Togo").
That was also the original plan for "Young Woman and the Sea," a biographical swimming drama anchored (no pun intended) by none other than Rey Skywalker herself, Daisy Ridley. Luckily,...

One year ago, at Star Wars Celebration, the news was confirmed: Daisy Ridley will officially be coming back to the galaxy far, far away, reprising the role of Rey in a film set 15-odd years after Episode IX – The Rise Of Skywalker, in which her hero will be establishing a New Jedi Order. In the intervening 12 months, the project has remained in its early stages, but Ridley herself has been awaiting her return to Star Wars – all while working on acclaimed smaller films like Sometimes I Think About Dying, and Young Woman And The Sea. Among it all, she’s feeling positive about what her Star Wars future holds.
As she tells Empire in a major new career-spanning interview – available in the upcoming The Acolyte issue – this time she’s “coming in a bit more eyes wide open” to the whole experience. “I suppose I feel more like I’m owning it.

Daisy Ridley, known best as Rey in the "Star Wars" sequel trilogy, has had a pretty fascinating career outside of a galaxy far, far away. From narrating documentaries to failed YA sci-fi adaptations, she's certainly spread her wings. Later this year, Ridley will get the chance to lead a straight-up action flick called "Cleaner." It sounds like a riff on "Die Hard" from director Martin Campbell, who directed two of the greatest "James Bond" movies ever made. We may not even have a trailer yet, but it sounds very much like the film is going to live up to the promise of the talent involved.
The actor was on hand at this year's SXSW film festival in Austin, Texas, to promote her new movie "Magpie." During a panel, Ridley got to talking about some of her more physically demanding roles as of late, including the upcoming Disney drama "Young Woman and the Sea.

Well, Han Solo and Princess Leia had a jedi child in Ben Solo aka Kylo Ren, so what about Daisy Ridley’s Rey Skywalker?
The next Star Wars movie from filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, which was announced at Star Wars Celebration 2023, will see the further adventures of Rey post the events of 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, one reported string being that the character starts up a Jedi Academy.
Catching up with Ridley at Deadline’s SXSW studio, the actress tells us, “I would say she probably doesn’t have children seeing she’s a Jedi.” We’ll, ya never know. Star Wars canon does change from time to time.
In regards to what she’s heard on the new film, which won’t come until after 2026’s Jon Favreau directed Mandalorian and Grogu Star Wars movie: “Literally what I know is what was announced last year, I’m waiting to read a script.

Despite the popularity of Disney’s “Star Wars” franchise, Daisy Ridley says her career stalled when she finished her run leading the film trilogy with 2019’s “The Rise of Skywalker.”
“There weren’t that many offers coming in,” Ridley said during a Sunday panel at SXSW in Austin. “It’s not that there wasn’t any… I remember finishing and thinking, ‘Oh, it’s quiet and strange.'”
According to Ridley, she didn’t feel fully comfortable leading the latest “Star Wars” trilogy until she had reached the final movie, “The Rise of Skywalker.” “It took, honestly, making the third film till I felt like ‘Ok, I’m good. I deserve to be here,'” she said.
And then, after eight years of playing Rey, Ridley and the rest of the world went into lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and the entire film and TV industry shut down. During that time,...

Exclusive, Updated: It’s official. The Disney+ movie, Young Woman and the Sea, is getting a limited theatrical release on May 31. This is after the Daisy Ridley movie tested in the high 90s.
I also hear that the movie will have a marketing campaign tailored to a limited release. Originally, we heard from a non-Disney source that the feature take on Glenn Stout’s novel was going to get a tentpole push.
Anyway, it’s another win for streaming movies heading to the big screen, and studios recognizing the potential for them there first.

Daisy Ridley is having quite the year so far. Her new movie, Sometimes I Think About Dying, released in theaters earlier this month and is receiving positive notes. Her indie neo-noir movie Magpie is set to premiere at the SXSW film festival in March. The biopic Young Woman and the Sea, in which she stars as Gertrude Ederle, the first woman to swim across the English Channel, was originally slated for a Disney+ release may instead get a bump up to theatrical. Oh, and she’s filming a new action-thriller called Cleaner directed by 007 franchise legend Martin Campbell.
In between all that, Ridley is also of course answering plenty of questions about her upcoming return to Star Wars. The actor recently teased that her solo movie, which is set 15 years after the Sequel Trilogy and will follow Rey as she works to build a new Jedi Order, is taking...

Daisy Ridley To Star In ‘The Better Liar’ Series Based On Book In Works At Amazon From Raelle Tucker
Exclusive: Amazon Studios has partnered with The Tornante Company to develop The Better Liar, a drama series based on the book by the same name by Tanen Jones. Daisy Ridley is set to star in and executive produce the adaptation, written and executive produced by Raelle Tucker (True Blood), Deadline has learned.
Raelle Tucker (Photo by Derek White/Getty Images for Scad)
In The Better Liar, when a woman hires a lookalike in an effort to conceal her sister’s death and claim their shared inheritance, her deception exposes a web of dangerous secrets. Siobhan Bachman also executive produces for The Tornante Company.
This would mark the first starring TV role for Ridley, probably best known for playing Rey in the Star Wars franchise. She has been filming the noir thriller Magpie, based on a story she had developed, and will next be seen in The Marsh King’s Daughter and Young Woman and the Sea.

Where do you go after headlining a "Star Wars" trilogy? It's a dilemma multiple actors have faced over the decades, and the outcomes have varied wildly. Some have gone on to enjoy incredible careers in fields such as voice acting and script doctoring, whereas others have followed their time playing in the immensely popular sci-fi fantasy sandbox by making actually real movies like the "'Romeo and Juliet,' but with pizza businesses" rom-com "Little Italy." After starring in the galaxy’s biggest movies, Daisy Ridley is now trying the indie scene on for size by way of Rachel Lambert’s Sometimes I Think About Dying. The quirky romantic drama recently premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, and it chronicles the lonely and routine existence of Ridley’s Fran until Dave Merheje’s Robert arrives in town and attempts to crack her shell.

The Paramount/Skydance co-production easily won the record Memorial Day opening at the B.O. with 156M (which included previews), unseating Pirates 3‘s 153M opening.
Outside of any delay created by the pandemic, why the world had to wait 36 years for the further adventures of Tom Cruise’s Capt.
