White Christmas - S07E09
rgan16 December 2018
Continuing the recent trend of strong episodes, this Christmas-themed episode centred around a log cabin brings the gang together for fun moments and revelations such as the climax of the Haley-Andy relationship and Jay's big announcement. While the ending to one of these stories whimps out at the last second, the rest of the run time is an absolute riot with all characters in fine form. But it's not just the main characters as the supporting acts also bring their A-game as DeVine is a perfect accompaniment to Phil's out of context lines as well as Andrea Martin's unfiltered Fig and lastly Laura Ashley Samuels' Final outing as Beth. As far as Christmas-themed episodes go, "White Christmas" is one of the strongest, not just for Modern Family but in general; the big twists that impact characters' lives, moments of utter hilarity as well as the homage to The Shining. Another strong outing for the show.

White Christmas

Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed this episode, I thought all the plot elements worked well, and it was nice to see the character of Alex being written well for a change.

The Haley and Andy storyline added extra engagement to the show actually, it's just a shame they bottled it as things went along.

Good overall though.

Warning: Spoilers
Episode 9 of the seventh season is splendid. The "The Shining" reference is glorious, setting and its creating comfort gives the episode more atmosphere. Andy and Haley being caught was hilarious and the tense situation with Beth's arrival the icing on the cake.

Love it! Season 7 has a variety of superb episodes so far. Looking forward to more!

Why are you hesitating?

Warning: Spoilers
One of the things I've always loved about Modern Family is that, while it's a comedy primarily, the writers aren't afraid to explore the darker and more painful sides of situations. We saw it when Haley got kicked out of school, when Cam and Mitch didn't get their second baby, when Alex admits to a therapist she just needs some help, and even in smaller scenes like when Alex says she has no friends or when Luke's friend Mr. Kleezak defends himself against the Dunphy parents. So we've seen that Modern Family has no trouble touching on the hard topics- except, apparently, admitting that while Andy and Haley are wonderful together, Andy was cheating on Beth and was in the wrong. Instead, they have to make sure Andy comes out as the good guy by making Beth cheat on him too. This made what normally would have been a nice episode weak, especially when at the end Haley doesn't understand why Andy would be upset and Gloria (for some reason) agrees with her. It just feels like someone wimped out and took the easy way out to end the episode.

amazing

Honestly I would've given it a 9.5/10 but I may as well round it up. First of all it was hilarious, from the shining references, to the small jokes and the plot. It - was - awesome. My family and I laughed so much at this episode. Haley and Andy were hilarious, Luke and Manny once again made a dynamic duo, and Joe was cute as always. I also thought that random Fig Wilson person was a nice simple touch to the story. Also, the end was very funny. There were big plot moments that were heartwarming and somehow funny, even the sad-ish moments were funny. This would be my go to modern family rewatch.

Absolutely terrible episode
jpapanone15 September 2021
Everyone seems to be doing their best to be really bad. Lilly...awful.

Claire...awful.

Mitch and Cam were fine enough...though them singing isn't that great a story line.

What else? Adam Devine always good...but Haley is terrible.

Manny and Luke...dumb.

There is just no flow to Modern Family episodes. It's strings of scenes meant to be funny but that aren't.

Yet another episode that is why I rank episodes on IMDB. I'll probably start watching this one again...get to a scene that makes me think...wait...have I rated this yet? Should I continue watching this?

I'll run here...ahhh. Nope. Not this one.

Def not 7. Not 6.

Start at 5...and this will probably end up a 4 if not a 3.

The random other person at the cabin is absolutely terrible.

Want a better cabin episode...just watch the Frasier episode. THAT is this done right.

This episode is garbage of the hot variety.
