Stephen Stanton's voice here is a dead ringer for Alan Rickman's....

Just had to mention this - I was completely fooled until I looked at the credits.

Great job Stephen....RIP Alan.

Filler, but good filler
wms-9274125 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I have long believed that droids get considerably less respect than they should in the Star Wars universe. They are sentient (self-aware) and by any reasonable definition, they are slaves. And no one in this long-ago-far-away galaxy seems to care.

So, an episode in which one droid frees another by destroying his restraining bolt, and talks about free will, is something quite appealing to me. I believe that before the entire Star Wars saga is told, they must address the slavery droids live under. Perhaps a droid rebellion. Something. It's hard to maintain belief that these are "good guys" when they're perfectly fine with slavery, a great evil.

This is what is known as a filler episode. The main storyline is just barely advanced in this episode; the only significant thing that happens in the meta-story is that the rebels find what appears to be a safe haven. This episode exists to provide humor and to bring out more of Chopper's character, and it works.

So close

The first half of this episode is really, really goofy and uninteresting, which drags the episode down. However, by the time AP-5 comes around in the second half of the episode, it gets GOOD. I legit teared up in this episode; you just gotta get to the good stuff

not as good as last time
shortm-1687617 March 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This weeks a episode of rebels was not as good as last episode.

its nice to see a chopper episode and i think the end of the episode is great where they find there new base which i think is the planet dantooine.

The episode itself was part of the overall story but i think we all just want the final to arrive as soon as possible.

at the end of the day it was a good episode but a filler episode. i also think the droid that chopper makes friends with is is the droid that will be in rouge one.

overall 7/10

Great episode. Good to see Chopper out on his own, and up to no good. The humour is strong in this one.

Then not-so forgotten droid

I didn't like a single one of the droid-centered episodes of The Clone Wars. This one works much better, and I think it's because Chopper is actually a funny, kick-butt character. I love that little guy, probably more than some of the bigger face droids in all of Star Wars. He's actually a fairly well-rounded character in this. His arc with the Imperial droid worked surprisingly well.

Great to see Choppers Shine
leersaunders11 November 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This episode gives Chopper a chance to show his true character and shine.

Although usually assumed to be selfish, he meets a new droid (A-P5) and they both soon become friends reminiscent of R2 & C-3PO's relationship, he then helps A-P5 by removing his restraining bolt and eventually freeing him from the clutches of the empire as well as outwitting several storm-troopers, beating up an imperial officer multiple times and managing to steal a freighter (along with a spare leg for Chopper) while saving the Rebel fleet from a trap!

This is actually one of my favourite episodes from season 2 and I look forward to seeing more of the same "old school" Star Wars as seen in this great episode.

The Forgotten Droid
lassegalsgaard16 December 2019
I am someone who loves Chopper. I think he is a valuable part of the team and the most underrated member of the entire crew. With that said, I never thought that a solo episode focused on him would work, and having seen this one, I was completely right in that assumption. While it is cool to see Chopper take the stage, this episode felt like something out of a comicbook. A one-shot comic that shouldn't ever be made into media. This felt like such a weird thing to do after the amazing development that happened in the last episode, and while I did like that the episode actually ended up meaning something for the overall series, I still think they could have incorporated that into an episode that actually worked for the series. Chopper is a great character, but just like a lot of other side characters, he doesn't work when he is in the lead. I also don't like the ending of the episode, because it suggests something for the rest of the series that turns me off completely from the character of Chopper, and for the better of the series, I truly hope that they don't do it, as it would be dumb and ruin a lot of chemistry.

Alan or Marvin?
dominic-85-12234525 June 2021
Love this episode, but as much as I think the voice sounds like Rickman I think there's more than a hint of Marvin the Paranoid Android about him, especially in his demeanor and attitude.

"If this is filler..."
Colorscheme21 May 2023
Anymore I've been coming to IMDb after each episode with a full heart ready to see the middling scores and complaints of "filler."

If you're like me, and the journey is a key part of the magic, the pieces that comprise the whole, the connections that allow for the bigger episodes to deliver their payoff, then an episode like this is one of the best.

I let it in. I wanted to spend as much time with Chopper and AP-5 as possible. I marveled at watching the Ghost and Shadowcaster fight together. I drooled over the design of the depot station and cargo ship. And I grinned the entire time from the comedic timing of this wonderful food.

So, yeah. If this is filler then load up my plate.

Star Filler
Fluke_Skywalker22 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Plot; While on a mission to secure fuel for the Rebel Alliance, Chopper gets separated from the crew of the Ghost and has to stowaway aboard an Imperial ship.

Coming on the heels of an episode with major story implications, this Chopper-centric story feels like exactly what it is. Filler. On its own it's a passable enough bit of fluff. Chopper is front and center in a story that sees him befriend an Imperial protocol droid. Cutesy action ensues. But in the context of the larger story, where big things have been set up in preparation for the finale to come, this feels like a lazy, hackneyed effort.

Fab Filler
A_Kind_Of_CineMagic14 October 2020
Both Clone Wars and Rebels struggled to create comedic fillers that worked. There tended to a number of episodes of droid (or worse, Jar Jar) adventures with very silly, over the top cartoon action and flimsy plots. It feels dumbed down nonsense when this occurs. For once they judge this episode much better.

Yes there is a lot of comedy and the episode is partly droid silliness but in this case they have judged the humour far better. There are genuinely funny comedic aspects and lots of pathos which is actually really moving. The droid Chopper meets aboard an Imperial ship is a great character, well voicedand very endearing. Chopper is on top form and this is largely a joyful episode but with an emotional punch in the end.

My rating: 8.5/10.
