The last few scenes make it worth it

Warning: Spoilers
The last 5 minutes or so of this episode are really the only reason that I am giving this an 8/10.

I absolutely died laughing when Brennan was talking to Fisher about him writing the fan fiction about her novels. I think it is so amazing and hilarious and he was mortified and it was just brilliant. I don't even care about whether it is realistic for the publisher to send Brennan fan fiction about her novels. The fact that Fisher writer fan fic about an intern sleeping with Brennan (or I suppose Kathy) was simply amazing.

We also had a fun scene between Booth and Brennan about how young is too young for Christine to hear Brennan's books. This scene got me wondering whether Brennan and Booth talk about their work in front of her. As daughter of someone in law enforcement I know that there is a lot of different comfort levels about sharing about the job. Some people feel like they have to talk about their jobs with their family in order to process their days and others feel like it's better if their families aren't aware of the horrors in the world. I feel like Brennan would probably want to talk about these things in front of their kids where Booth wouldn't think it's appropriate. On a side note, I would kill to hear Brennan's "tasteful" retelling of the evil step sisters getting their eyes pecked out.

Overall the case was kinda blah, we have seen a story line like this before (season 4 the bones the blew, a bodyguard of a rich family is murdered by the girl because he threatens to tell the school she is cheating). Also, why did that mom just let the kid confess to murder? And, was that legal for Brennan to shine the flash light on the bike to look for blood? I know it was in an open area but it's still private property and I think a warrant may have been necessary.

Best part: Aubrey standing up to his dad and saying that he is the man he is despite his father

Worst part: Brennan's voice recording for the audiobook.

Wait for the Gotcha

Hodgins allows spiders to get into Cam's office, terrifying her. But she uses the old "You'll never know when it's coming" attack to get back at him. This case involves a bunch of rich kids trying to get into a prestigious college and their overbearing parents. Their beloved tutor is the victim this time and Booth and Brennan must wade through layers, including the fact that one of the parents is, herself, a lawyer who knows the ropes. There are two subplots. Once is the appearance of Aubrey's father and his efforts to deal with the guy who is indeed a pariah. The second has Fisher telling Brennan that her novels are trashy and not very good. There are some cool implications for that as well.

Unexplained intern return
chamounmaria15 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I didn't like this episode much and I'll start with the big issue of suddenly having Dr. Fisher back as an intern whereas we had seen him work as a consultant or so for secret service or tutor the president's daughter.. Something along those lines. Now his lab coat clearly states he is an intern and we get no explanation whatsoever. It could have been done in a sentence... Would that have been too much to ask for?!

The case itself was boring and when they catch the boy who murdered the victim, his mom stands next to him and doesn't tell him to stop talking when it becomes obvious that he murdered his tutor. That made no sense at all considering how the mom behaved throughout the show.

I liked Aubrey's decision on how to handle situation with his dad and the scene when Cam asks Angela if she noticed Hodgins behaving in an odd way which gave us a picture on what's happening since the spiders went loose, without watching a scene where it happens which I found good and funny. This makes it even more annoying to see the writer knows how to make this happen but didn't see it necessary to do about why Dr. Fisher is an intern again.
