English version of "Katastrofa", adapted by
Anne Wood of the production company FilmFair, was shortened and re-edited to a ~5 minute episode titled "Catastrophe". It was originally broadcast in the UK in 1983 (as episode 35) on Central Independent Television, as part of its "Watch It!" strand of children's programming. Missing from the UK version:
- The original opening: Moominvalley in spring; Too-Ticky coming out from the bathing hut and playing spring music with his barrel organ for the Moomin family and friends; Too-Ticky and Little My leaving, and the Moomin family preparing to clear the garden; Moominmamma telling about the letter from Fillyjonk and preparing some food for the visit to Fillyjonk; the children leaving (the UK episode opens with Fillyjonk washing the carpet on the shore).
- Fillyjonk holding a vase with flowers; the window frame hitting the statue; a wide shot of Fillyjonk with the cat statue going to the next room; a close-up of chandelier breaking loose, and Fillyjonk taking shelter under the table; the front door of the house breaking loose and a small table and a clock almost hitting Fillyjonk on the shore, and Fillyjonk examining the table.
- The original ending back in the Moominhouse: the Moomin parents relaxing, Too-Ticky and Sniff playing cards on the table, and Moomintroll, Little My and Fillyjonk watching a book. Moomintroll then goes to the window and ponders the catastrophe.
- A notable soundtrack cue in the UK version by composers Steve Shill and Graeme Miller include a theme for barrel organ near the end of the UK episode (where Too-Ticky is playing again).
