Becoming an athlete

Warning: Spoilers
"Schultersieg" tells the story of four young German girls and their dream of becoming professional wrestlers. The film follows them through training, tournaments and their regular life, depicting how growing up in a world of sports can be challenging sometimes.

It is very shaking to see how much effort is already expected from young athletes. In the beginning you might even get angry at the coaches, who treat their athletes quite hard sometimes, especially during the tournaments. On the other Hand, the same coaches are the ones comforting the girls if their own expectations rise to high and show a lot of empathy in these situations. At the same time you get a sense for how difficult it must be to face puberty while having to deliever great results time and again.

All in all this is a very well-done documentary that leaves you with a lot of respect for young athletes who sacrify so many things for their chance to shine. At the same time it also leaves you thinking, whether we're not expecting to much of the children because we always want to see new records and victories.
