Tree Woman: The Effects Of The Guardian - An Interview With Makeup Effects Artist Matthew Mungle (2016)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

This thirteen minute featurette with make-up artist Matthew Mungle can be found on the Shout Factory! release of William Friedkin's THE GUARDIAN. Mungle starts off talking about how he was nervous taking the movie because of hearing how difficult the director was to work with. He tells a nice story about their first meeting and mentions that he never had a single problem with Friedkin. From here we go into detail about several of the death scenes in the movie. I really wasn't a fan of THE GUARDIAN but there's no question that the death scenes and the gore are the most memorial thing about it. There are some excellent stories here about how the special effects were done, which is always nice. Another major plus are the stories about Friedkin and to be honest, out of all the featurettes on this release, Mungle is the only one who doesn't have something negative to say about the director.
