It doesn’t seem that long ago that Game sniped at Jay-Z with the line: “You 38 and still rappin’? Ugh!” from his 2006 track “It’s Okay (One Blood).” Yet some of this era’s biggest rap heroes are nearing — and above — forty. A “Tale Of The Tape” scene in the music video for Drake and J. Cole’s recent collaboration “First Person Shooter” displayed them at 37 and 38 years old, respectively. There was a time when rappers wouldn’t be so forthcoming about pushing 40, but rap’s “too old” stigma has...

Charlie Robison, whose gritty songwriting and independent spirit helped pave the way for modern Texas music, has died at 59. His wife Kristen Robison confirmed his death in a Facebook post.
While a cult figure in the mainstream country music world, his influence throughout his native Texas and on the Red Dirt scene was undeniable. Robison’s 1998 album Life of the Party is a touchstone for Texas artists and was a ubiquitous soundtrack across the Lone Star State in the late Nineties, earning him a reputation as a successor to Robert Earl Keen.

[This story contains spoilers to the finale of season two of The Bear.]
Like so many people, The Bear was Molly Gordon’s favorite show of 2022. Unlike most people, she got to join her favorite show when it returned for its sophomore season. Gordon, who played Triple A in Booksmart and starred alongside Rachel Sennott in Shiva Baby, joined the Emmy-winning ensemble series as Carmy’s childhood friend Claire; the two reconnect after a chance meeting in a bodega and as they fall in love, Carmy questions whether he has the capacity to successfully open a restaurant and be happy. “I was very affected by it,” Gordon says of watching the second season for the first time. “I ate it up like candy, even though I was also sobbing. I’m so sad that it’s done, and between this and Succession being over, I don’t really know what to do.”

André 3000 has a new album on the way, if longtime OutKast affiliate Killer Mike is to be believed.
In a recent interview with Sway in the Morning, Killer Mike revealed André played him a bunch of new tracks after coming by to check out Mike’s latest album, Michael, while it was being recorded. This led to Dre appearing on “Scientists & Engineers,” a Dungeon Family reunion also featuring Future.
“He played like nine, 10 joints for us and he said, ‘Well, just pick what you like and do something with it,'” Mike remembered, adding that André has often turned down offers to collaborate “over the past decade” by saying, “I’m not into rapping right now.”
Apparently, André was in a completely different headspace this time around and actually gave Mike two records, one of which is “like 11 minutes long” and features a seven-minute verse from Three Stacks. André...

On Friday, Drake premiered a new single called “Search & Rescue.” The track is classic forlorn Drizzy, seemingly hit by the sting of late-adulthood singledom. He affectionally croons in search of someone to “take me off the market / take me off the map” on the song’s moody Sad Pony and Bnyx-produced beat. It’s also Drake at his most classically petty.

The stranger-than-fiction story of Ukranian-born Natalia Grace and her U.S. adoptive parents, who claimed that she was an adult “sociopath” pretending to be a child, is the inspiration for an eight-episode Hulu limited series starring and executive produced by Ellen Pompeo.
As she takes on the Untitled Orphan Project, Grey’s Anatomy star Pompeo will be scaling back her on-screen presence on the ABC medical drama next season to eight episodes. She will remain a narrator and executive producer on the show.
Ellen Pompeo Through The Years: Photo Gallery Of 18 Seasons Of Meredith Grey On ‘Grey’s Anatomy’
The shocking case, which has drawn parallels to the 2009 horror movie Orphan, made national headlines in September 2019 when Kristine Barnett and her ex-husband Michael Barnett were charged with neglect for allegedly abandoning their adopted daughter Natalia, who has a rare form of dwarfism, in 2013 when she was 9. The parents have claimed that Natalia, whom they adopted when they thought she was 6, is in fact a mentally disturbed adult woman who threatened their lives. Most of the charges against the Barnetts eventually were dismissed; Natalia has denied the accusations that she is a grownup con artist.
The limited series was created and written by Katie Robbins (The Affair). Here is the logline: Inspired by the true story of the Midwestern couple who adopts what they believe is a little girl with dwarfism. As they begin to raise her alongside their three biological children, they slowly start to believe she may not be who she says she is. As they question her story, they’re confronted with hard questions of their own about the lengths they’re willing to go to defend themselves, falling into a battle that’s fought in the tabloids, the courtroom, and ultimately their marriage.
Pompeo will play the mother.
2022 Hulu Pilots & Series Orders
The project has been in the works at Hulu for a year and a half. Mike Epps and his managers Dan Spilo and Niles Kirchner had originally obtained the rights to Michael Barnett’s story before taking the idea to the Disney-controlled streamer. Hulu optioned the rights to Michael Barnett in January 2021, and Robbins was brought in to write the script. Pompeo came on board earlier this summer.
Erin Levy will serve as showrunner on the series and executive produce alongside Robbins. Pompeo will executive produce through her production banner Calamity Jane with Laura Holstein. Epps, Spilo and Niles Kirchner also executive produce alongside Andrew Stearn, who at the time of the Hulu sale had a deal at ABC Signature predecessor ABC Studios.
This marks Pompeo’s first major acting role outside of the Grey’s Anatomy franchise since the 2005 feature Life of the Party. Pompeo acted primarily in movies before she was cast as Meredith Grey in Grey’s Anatomy 18 years ago and has been focused on the hit show ever since. In addition to starring, Pompeo serves as an executive producer on ABC’s hugely popular medical drama, which is headed to its 19th season. She is repped by CAA, John Carrabino Management, The Lede Company and Hansen Jacobson.
Robbins is repped by UTA, Aaron Kogan Management and attorney Jonathan Shikora. Levy is repped by WME. Michael Barnett was repped in the deal by attorney Terrance Kinnard.

Kanye West's newest music video gives viewers the powerful gift of nostalgia. Just in time for Mother's Day, Ye released sentimental visuals for his song "Life of the Party" off his latest album, "Donda (Deluxe)," named after his late mother, Donda West. The video features deepfakes of photos from his childhood, emphasizing different stages of his life, as well as real footage of him and his family from 1990. The images in the music video include everything from an old ID to class pictures and baby photos, with edits designed to make it seem as though each version of Ye is actually singing the lyrics.
The song, which first debuted at a "Donda" listening event in Las Vegas last year, feels like the right fit for such a personal video. The original track with André 3000 has a reflective sound that includes many details about André...

"I can feel you flowing through!!" Netflix has revealed the first official trailer for a new comedy series titled God's Favorite Idiot, the latest creation from the husband-wife comedy duo Melissa McCarthy & Ben Falcone. Usually Falcone directs McCarthy in Hollywood comedies but this time he stars as the main character in this workplace comedy about what would happen if he suddenly started glowing after being struck by lightning. In God's Favorite Idiot, Mid level Tech support employee Clark Thompson finds love with co-worker Amily Luck at exactly the same time he becomes the unwitting messenger of God. There's also roller skating, a lake of fire and an apocalypse, too. This looks like they went all out with the religious imagery. Falcone stars with McCarthy, and an ensemble cast including Leslie Bibb as Satan, Kevin Dunn, Usman Ally, Steve Mallory, Chris Sandiford, Ana Scotney, and Yanic Truesdale. This seems extra quirky...

Heaven, hell, and office romances: real-life couple and comedy duo Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone lead Netflix comedy “God’s Favorite Idiot,” premiering on the streamer June 15.
McCarthy and Falcone co-founded On the Day Productions, and have written and produced films like “Tammy,” “The Boss” and “Life of the Party” together with Falcone directing. Now, the creative partners lead “God’s Favorite Idiot,” which is part “Bruce Almighty” and part workplace comedy.
Falcone stars as unassuming tech support employee Clark Thompson who pines after his co-worker Amily Luck (McCarthy). After being struck by lightning, Clark begins to glow — and not just because his crush is reciprocated. Turns out, Clark is now anointed, and must battle Satan (Leslie Bibb) with the help of Amily.
The eight-episode series also stars Kevin Dunn, Usman Ally, Steve Mallory, Chris Sandiford, Ana Scotney, and Yanic Truesdale. “God’s Favorite Idiot” is Oscar nominee McCarthy’s follow-up TV role...

Gillian Jacobs and Wood Harris have both joined HBO’s upcoming drama series about the Los Angeles Lakers, Variety has learned.
The untitled series was ordered at HBO in December 2019. It is described as chronicling the professional and personal lives of the 1980s Los Angeles Lakers, one of sports’ most revered and dominant dynasties, in what came to be called the Showtime Era.
Jacobs will appear as Chris Riley. Her husband Pat (Adrien Brody) might be the one wearing the whistle, but Chris Riley is the one with a plan. Therapist by trade, Chris Riley uses her emotional expertise and strategic genius to shape the Lakers into champions.
Harris will appear as Spencer Haywood. In 1970, Spencer Haywood took the NBA to the Supreme Court, winning the right to join the league before graduating college, therefore paving the way for future greats like Lebron James and Kobe Bryant. But the groundbreaking...

Adria Arjona is ready to walk down the aisle with Andy Garcia. She has been tapped to play Garcia’s daughter and the bride-to-be in Warner Bros and Plan B’s reboot of Father of the Bride. Gaz Alazraki has been set to helm the studio’s new reboot, which will revolve around a Cuban-American family, with Matt Lopez penning the script.
The film will tell the story of a father coming to grips with his daughter’s upcoming wedding through the prism of multiple relationships within a big, sprawling Cuban-American family. It will be more of a rom-com than previous versions of film. While this will mark the third iteration of the story, sources say this will be more in the vein of the original Spencer Tracy pic and not the Steve Martin franchise from the 1990s.
Dede Garner and Jeremy Kleiner will produce for Plan B Entertainment. Garcia will exec produce.

The “Airplane!” school of chock-full-of-jokes conceptual parody, with its fourth-wall-smashing stupido-smart goofiness, had a pretty impressive run. It ruled for several decades, spawning everything from the “Airplane!” creators’ own “Naked Gun” franchise — to me, the media-age Marx Brothers-worthy masterpiece of the form — to the Wayans brothers’ “Scary Movie” franchise to several dozen comedies, from “Hot Shots!” to “National Lampoon’s Loaded Weapon 1” to “Not Another Teen Movie,” that skewered genre after genre after genre with the puckish satiric glee that most of them deserved. But the “Airplane!” school didn’t stick around long enough to mount a full-scale comic attack on the superhero movie. Which is too bad, since it could have been stupendous. What comic-book films, with their authoritarian heroism and CGI bombast, just about cry out for is a parody that’s massively scaled in its high-flying mockery.

Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer Are Superhero Best Friends in Netflix’s ‘Thunder Force’ Trailer
Netflix released the official trailer for “Thunder Force,” which stars Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer as two best friends with newly acquired superpowers. The film is set to make its streaming debut on April 9.
The superhero comedy is directed by Ben Falcone, who previously worked with McCarthy on films such as “Tammy,” “The Boss,” “Life of the Party” and HBO Max’s “Superintelligence.” His new film is expected to poke fun at comic book movie tropes while delivering some good-hearted laughs.
The trailer sees Lydia (McCarthy) reunite with her childhood best friend, Emily Stanton (Spencer), a successful scientist that has created technology that grants ordinary people superpowers. After being told not to touch anything, McCarthy accidentally takes the only formula for super strength, unwillingly creating the first real-life superhero team. When a new villain known as “The King” (Bobby Cannavale) arrives in town, it’s up to the Thunder Force...

‘Thunder Force’ Trailer: Netflix Gives Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer Their Superhero Tentpole
Netflix has released the first official trailer for “Thunder Force,” a new superhero comedy starring the dynamic duo of Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer. The project is the latest collaboration between McCarthy and her writer-director Ben Falcone, who previously worked together on “Tammy,” “The Boss,” “Life of the Party,” and last year’s critically panned HBO Max comedy “Superintelligence.” Here’s hoping Spencer’s fresh energy can reignite Falcone and McCarthy’s old creative spark, or at least offer something new to the mix of their predictable schtick.

Falcone and McCarthy executive produce via their On the Day production company.

In “Superintelligence,” an average human being must convince a sentient AI program not to wipe out humanity. Lucky for all of us, the film “Superintelligence” is not entered as evidence that our continued existence is justified.
It’s probably the most technically accomplished of the four theatrical features (to date) that Ben Falcone has directed with his wife Melissa McCarthy in the starring role, but this partnership continues to be an imbalanced one, at least in terms of results. Their collaborations constitute both her least-interesting movies as an actress and the entirety of his career as a filmmaker.
As collaborators and co-stars, they can be hilarious together — in performance; once he steps to the other side of the camera, however, the magic they create as a team seems to dissipate. Neither of them gets much assistance from the screenplay by Steve Mallory (“The Boss”), which hinges the fate of mankind...

Soft-hearted, middle-of-the-road comedies — that is the brand Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone have established in their three previous films together. With McCarthy as star and sometimes co-writer, and Falcone as director and writer, the real-life married couple have turned out the innocuous, mildly funny Life of the Party (2018), The Boss (2016) and Tammy (2014). Their latest, Superintelligence, originally set for theaters but now premiering on HBO Max, comes from the same cookie-cutter.
McCarthy plays Carol Peters, who eight years ago left a big, unspecified job at Yahoo to do some good in the world. We first see her at a Seattle ...

"Why you?" "You're literally the most average person on Earth." Warner Bros has unveiled the trailer for a comedy titled Superintelligence, the latest creation of actress Melissa Mccarthy and her director husband Ben Falcone. This is skipping theaters and debuting directly on HBO Max at the end of the month - which is probably for the best considering this looks awful. When an all-powerful Superintelligence (voiced by James Corden) chooses to study the most average person on Earth, the fate of the world hangs in the balance. As the A.I. decides to enslave, save or destroy humanity, it's up to Carol to prove that people are worth saving. This stars Melissa McCarthy, Bobby Cannavale, Brian Tyree Henry, and Jean Smart. It looks like a dumb comedy ripoff of Her without any laughs. Ugh. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Ben Falcone's Superintelligence, direct from WB's YouTube: Carol...

HBO Max has released the first trailer for “Superintelligence,” a new comedy about the surveillance state starring Melissa McCarthy and Bobby Cannavale. “Superintelligence” is McCarthy’s fourth collaboration with her husband Ben Falcone, who directed McCarthy in “Tammy” (2014), “The Boss” (2016), and “Life of the Party” (2018), all of which the couple co-wrote together. “Superintelligence” is written by Steve Mallory, who was the third credited writer on “The Boss.”
Per the official synopsis: “Nothing extraordinary ever happens to Carol Peters, so when she starts getting snarky backtalk from her TV, phone and microwave, she thinks she is being punked or losing her mind. In fact, the world’s first superintelligence has selected her for observation, taking over her life… with a bigger, more ominous plan to take over everything. Now Carol is humanity’s last chance to prove that people are worth saving.”
“Superintelligence” also stars James Corden as the voice of Super Intelligence,...

In the first major crossover between WarnerMedia’s HBO Max and siblings TNT, TBS and TruTV, the ad-supported linear cable networks will carry four days of curated HBO Max programming over the Thanksgiving holiday. The stunt is clearly designed to promote HBO Max’s programming and draw new subscribes to the streaming platform.
Warner Media brass have said that HBO Max is a main priority, and the other divisions of the company have been pitching in to support it. When WarnerMedia earlier this year pulled the plug on DirecTV’s Audience as an original programming network, it was transformed into an HBO Max preview channel.
Beginning Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26 through Sunday, Nov. 29 each network will air its own themed content from HBO Max.
On Thursday, TNT will feature DC movies, including the network premiere of Aquaman, as well as the first episode of season one of HBO Max’s original series Titans.
