Season 2's finale falls apart like a house of cards. What should have been an epic, climactic ending ends up being a very weak and very sloppily directed and written ending instead. It feels rushed and contrived.
Allanon battles the Warlock Lord in a final showdown that is predictable but not nearly as badly contrived as Wil Ohmsford and Mareth's battle with him.
Meanwhile Eretria, who has been possessed by a wraith seeks to undermine the defenses of the castle where a last stand is being organized.
The choreography of the battle between the Warlock Lord and Wil Ohmsford and Mareth is about as bad as anything I've ever seen. While it's obvious that neither is a great combatant, Wil just stands there while the Warlock Lord tosses her aside like a rag doll. Does Wil assist or press the attack? No, he just stands there! If you're going to do a fight scene, learn how to do it.
When Wil is injured, he walks around as if nothing has happened to him. This just adds to the sloppiness of this episode. We think we're going to be treated to a huge battle at the castle. Nope.
The ending is just as laughable. Wil has sacrificed himself, and yet even those closest to him like Eretria act completely indifferent. There is no "mourning scene" or anything that has any emotional impact. Instead, we're left with a very bland, unbelievable, and pathetic ending.
Given the build-up from the previous episodes, the fans certainly deserved something much better than what was ultimately given. You feel as if you watched Season 2 for nothing, and all you're really left with is disappointment.
With this type of writing and directing, I'm not sure I'll be sticking around for Season 3.
