Scoring Waterfront
Leonard Bernstein and On the Waterfront (2013)
*** (out of 4)
Audio essay from Jon Burlingame who discusses Leonard Bernstein's score on the landmark film ON THE WATERFRONT. Burlingame takes every different piece of music done on the film and talks about the instruments used as well as what the score does for that particular scene. If you're a fan of the film then you'll certainly be entertained by this twenty minute piece that does a very good job at giving you a better understanding of how important the music was for certain scenes but also the scenes that were powerful enough to where no score was needed. This is certainly a well-produced piece that gives Bernstein all the credit he deserves.
