I'm sorry to say this, but the hottest event of the summer really got mixed lukewarm results, yet again! It wasn't that good.

Warning: Spoilers
While, Summerslam 2016 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, was a lot better than last year event. It had way too much matches with some sloppy parts with some heelish awkward finishes. Without spoiling the show, too much, I have to say, the pre-show matches weren't that good. The 12th men match, between American Alpha (Jason Jordan and Chad Gable), The Hype Bros (Zack Ryder and Mojo Rawley), and The Usos (Jimmy Uso and Jey Uso) Vs Breezango (Tyler Breeze and Fandango), The Ascension (Konnor and Viktor), and The Vaudevillains (Aiden English and Simon Gotch) was very forgettable. There were way too many wrestlers in one ring at one time. The next match was also a tag team match with Sami Zayn and Neville facing off, against Bubba Ray Dudley and D-Von Dudley. It was an alright match for the most part, with Sami and Neville doing most of the action against the much slower team of Bubba Ray and D-Von. It's clear, how out of shape, the Dudley are, in their later years. No wonder, why they retired after this match. The nostalgia for their extreme 'putting people in table' gimmick has worn off. Plus, it was somewhat funny, that Neville's man balls was poking out of his trunks. The final match on the pre-show was Sheamus wrestling Cesaro in the first match of the best-of-seven series, when in reality, it's probably their 3rd match in over a few weeks. While, I don't really like their build-up to this match; I have to say, it was very hard-hitting entertaining match to end the pre-show. The opening of Summerslam starts with a tag team match between Enzo Amore & Big Cass Vs Kevin Owens & Chris Jericho. It was a good opening match, kinda sloppy at parts, but entertaining. The pre-match promo was also alright, but a little too long for my taste. The Women Championship match is next on the card with champion, Sasha Banks defending her title against Charlotte. This is by far, the best women championship match on a PPV in a long time, with the 'back' story. Yet, Sasha is going to have a short career, because of it. The preliminary matches continues with the WWE Intercontinental Championship match between champion, the Miz defending his championship against the dull, and somewhat boring, Apollo Crews. It was a toilet break match, however, I did like the Miz entrance. That was not PG, at all with what his wife, Maryse was wearing. By far, the best match of the night was the next match. John Cena Vs AJ Styles really stole the show. Great fight. Glad to see Cena get some respect from the majority of fans for once after this match. I was surprise, how well, this match went. However, the WWE Tag Team Championship match between the champions, the New Day (Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods) vs the Club (Karl Andersen & Luke Gallows) was very disappointing. It's sad, because I kinda like the build up to this match, with the Club putting Big E on the disable list with a groin injury and them, playing it off, as doctors trying to get test subjects for solving a troubling epidemic call 'ringpostic'. It was great. Sadly, the celebrity add on, with ex-talk show host, Jon Stewart to this match, really hurt this feud. First off, Stewart looks sickly and old. Second off, his pre-match promo was really lackluster, long and forced as the crowd wasn't getting into it. Third off, his interfering in this match, really ruins, what was a pretty good match. I didn't like the results of this match. It wasn't fun or funny at all. Also, seeing Big E drink pee water was awkward as hell. I don't want to see Jon Stewart in wrestling, ever again. The WWE World Championship match was next with champion, Dean Ambrose defending his championship against challenger, Dolph Ziggler. First off, the match was very mediocre with Dolph stealing old wrestling moves from both Shawn Michaels and Triple H. Second off, the match wasn't that impressive, because how safe and familiar, the routine was. It felt like a recycle TV show style match. It didn't help that they promote KFC, during this, with Dolph looking silly, fighting with a chicken (the Miz) as Colonel Sanders. At least, the Six-woman tag team match that came after this match was a little more memorable. It had something unique happening, with Nikki Bella returning from neck injury to face the team of Becky Lynch, Naomi, and Carmella, with the help of Natalya and Alexa Bliss. She was a surprise last-minute replacement for Eva Marie, who was suspended for violating WWE's Wellness Policy. While, the match was alright; it was a bit awkward to see Bella in the heel team, when a few days after this, she would go on to be a baby-face. Anyways, this brings us to the newest made championship, the Universal Championship; with Finn Balor facing Seth Rollins for the chance to be its first champion. Okay match for the most part. It just sucks that Balor got injury in the beginning of it. It really limited, what they could had done. Regardless, it was very fun to watch, even if the crowd were mostly distracted, due to the horrible lazy belt design of the championship. (Champion) Rusev vs. Roman Reigns for the WWE United States Championship was next, but it never officially started. It was just weird and awkward to see. The main event results was just as stubborn with the technical knockout between Brock Lesnar and Randy Orton. Lesnar's actions in and out of this match, really does undermine WWE's concussion efforts, no blood cause, United States Anti-Doping Agency and Wellness Drug Policy. Reportedly, there was also a backstage confrontation between Brock and Jericho after this match, because of those conflicts. That tells you, how controversial, this main event is. Overall: Summerslam 2016 was a disappoint show. It barely payoff.

Good show, but far too long
gridoon202428 April 2018
With the exception of the non-match between Rusev and Roman Reigns, and the main event which is really just a beatdown by Brock Lesnar on Randy Orton (it gives you the - false - impression that the only move Lesnar knows is the german suplex), the wrestling in this PPV is of a generally high standard. But at 240 minutes, it may be too much of a good thing, especially when none of the 10 matches have any special stipulations. In the most notable matches, Sasha Banks and Charlotte have a solid, 3-star encounter, John Cena does new moves (!) and holds his own against AJ Styles (and an electric crowd), and Seth Rollins and Finn Balor put on a wrestling clinic. I would also like to point out that Naomi has perhaps the best entrance out of the entire WWE roster, as well as the best wrestling costume. *** out of 4.

A HUGE disappointment

Warning: Spoilers
Now Summerslam isn't the worst pay per view of the year but it was definitely the most disappointing. The Pre-show was more entertaining then the actual pay per view. It had a great start with the Enzo and Cass VS Jeri-KO tag team match which was entertaining at the most part and despite Charlotte winning the title back her match with her and Sasha was decent to. Get well Sasha. After that match is when the entire pay per view became such a mess. The Miz VS Apolo Cruise was rushed and I wish they would of given the title to Apolo since I believe no one would of cared if the Miz wasn't champion so it would of been a good time to give Apolo a push. A.J. Styles VS John Cena is one of the two notable matches in the pay per view. It was very back and forth and fast paced and I like how they didn't make John Cena win as I believe many people have predicted. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson VS Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods was a boring match but it got even worse with Big E's interference. Seriously, I know The New Day is popular, but they could of lost the belts right there, it doesn't have to be the baby face group being the champions especially since seeing the same people as champions gets really old only after a good amount of months, but I believe people were tired of seeing them as champs ever since Mania 32. It's time to for them to loose it! Dean Ambrose VS Dolph Ziggiler wasn't special. I did predicted Dean was going to win anyways, but I wish it would of been more even. Dean seemed to be way more dominate in the match than Dolph. The 6-women Tag Team match was....well.... just fine. Nothing to really say about it except that Nikki Bella returned. Finn Balor VS Seth Rollins is the 2nd notable match of the pay per view. It was really good and athletic and I loved every second of the match although I believe we all know how terrible the Universal title belt looks like. Rusev VS Roman was when I gave up on the pay per view, their wasn't even a match! It was just Roman being an aggressive beast. I know Rusev kicked him first but Roman went way to far! Examples like these is why the writing for him is terrible! I have no idea what they are trying to make him be. That was when I gave up on this pay per view but Brock VSRandy was just putting salt in the wounds. I just don't even want to talk about this atrocious match, you just have to watch it yourself.

Overall, I found this to be a boring SummerSlam with only 2 matches worth talking about and only 2 other matches that were just good. The beginning started out just fine but it quickly started to become a mess despite the A.J. Styes VS John Cena and Finn Balor VS Seth Rollins matches. I enjoyed TakeOver Brooklyn II more and I seen better Take Over pay pew views! Although I still thought it was good, I just seen better Takeovers, but it is 10 times better than this mess of a Summer slam!
