Terror
TheLittleSongbird25 October 2022
Personally found Season 18 rather underwhelming on the whole, though the second half of it was quite a big improvement. With quite a lot of the episodes having similar flaws that were already frequent issues in the seasons since Olivia's promotion. Do think that 'Law and Order: Special Victims Unit' was a truly fine show at its best and the early seasons have a lot to recommend, but it has not been the same for a while though not exempt from great episodes.

Season 18's opener "Terrorised" is not too bad a start, pretty promising actually in spite of having a few major issues with it (one in particular being one of the season's biggest faults). Which are fortunately balanced out by a lot of major good things, making for what is easily one of the better episodes of the season's first half (which on the whole was not particularly good with a few exceptions like "Terrorised"). There are only a small handful of recommended episodes from Season 18, this is one of them.

There are a lot of good and even great things here in "Terrorised". First and foremost, the production values are slick and have a subtle grit, with an intimacy to the photography without being too claustrophobic. The music isn't used too much and doesn't get too melodramatic. The direction is taut in the early stretches but suitably more accomodating later. There is quite a lot of thought provoking writing, balanced by moments of welcome and not out of place levity such as Fin's mayflower quip.

Also found the story on the whole suitably twisty and atmospheric with plenty to think about. There are some very heavy themes here that are not too heavily executed, Season 18 covered a lot of heavy themes. Most of the time sadly not very well, but this is one of the more tactful and powerful examples of it. The acting all round is very good, and most of the character writing is very good. Really did feel for Dodds, his anger and upset more than understandable here and this was a case of it not being directed at the wrong person. Barba's point of view was also understandable and Ana is one of the few sympathetic victims of the season.

Did find that "Terrorised" had a few major issues as said already. Olivia comes over again as too one sided and judgemental, jumping to conclusions too quickly and thinking only she is right. Also thought that Carisi is incompetent here, especially with the phone call.

It was felt too later on that this was not a case that SVU or Barba should have taken on, not their kind of case. Ana is treated too unfairly and shouldn't have been indicted considering how flimsy the evidence was.

Pretty good episode on the whole though and one of the few episodes of the first half to be properly worth watching. 7/10.

Sad episode
graceevatrends11 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Anna was as much a victim as the people shot. Don't understand why she had to be charged when she didn't kill anyone and no proof that she was an accomplice. They needed someone to blame and she was d scape goat. Guess that's how it works in the real world. Just really sad. Fell in trove with d wrong guy and paid for it with the rest of her life.

Warning: Spoilers
I just have to say that 95% of the time I agree with ADA Barba but this the 5% I don't agree with him calling the woman a murderer she did not kill anyone.

Where does terror end and begin?

There is a double-edged sword in the triangle of Muslims, immigrants and terrorists. In pursuit of a passcode with the telephone company, is it dangerous for the court not to allow access to the phones, or is it more dangerous to allow access...

All Svu arguments are heavily processed. Liv's idealism of doing her job; Arguments with Barba and Dodds and of course the struggle between the victim and Liv and the criminal and Liv...

Barba's conversation with the judge about data access and the court scenes raise solid questions about question marks.

"But rape is rape. We cannot invent our victims or our criminals. We listen and search for evidence. Of course, if a Muslim woman is accused of murder, we crush her with our patriotism and live our free lives." Great words, great article.

It is one of the solid episodes in which excited and moving. Liv's relationship with Chief Dodds is locked because of Mike Dodds.

In Liv, Barba, Marvel, Dodds and squad... they are all perfect...

Some parts of Svu about Muslims were not shown in my country. Even on private TV. It was not even shown in one or two episodes about child abuse in the church. I think the reason was found to be morally unethical.

This episode has been presented

Unfortunately, in my country too, tolerance towards rights and people is low.

Frankly, I wish it was shown. Sure, if there were true and empathetic critics.

So, I would understand how the West countries, looks at us. I would empathize. If there were mistakes, I would have a chance to correct them. Against the giant world, I would have grown a little more.

Cause, Criticism is a constructive force, a collaboration. Taking the right steps in the future is necessary to be better. It's like looking at yourself in the mirror. It's a kind of reverse empathy.

Elizabeth Marvel shines
Josabeli5 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
First, this episode is really not that good or really surprising. Nor are the script. L.t Benson crosses a lot of limits. We do not get a good reason why the terrorists wants to massacre the whole Central Park. The guest stars don't act. They have learned their lines.

We are used to "cop shows" that portrait officers who sacrifice their jobs, are all good types but breaks the law themselves now and then to get results. They also decide they have limitless resources on certain cases and loses their s*** without or seldom get real consequences.

Real life isn't a bit exciting I know, but please, don't make it a fairy tale either with obvious errors and mistakes, bad writing and stereotypes.

Now why rate it a 6?? Elizabeth Marvel. A regular guest star who always is a breath of fresh air. She is the female version of ADA Barba. This is one of the few episodes we see her emotionally affected by her client, showing a glimpse of humanity and vulnerability. She is one of the best recurring characters in the show.

Thank you, Elizabeth!

Ignorant

Warning: Spoilers
This episode was my least favorite. It gave me a good laugh because it did not depict Bosnians correctly. You have a a girl and guy Ana and Luka m, by the names you can tell they are of Christian decent, have a kid named Ali (muslim name), Luka happens to be a terrorist that has a closet where he has guns and an arabic writing, a man with a common christian name, it does not make sense at all, they are immigrants and one of the characters spoke better english than me...very ignorant episode.

Anna was & or is totally & completely innocent
lovettstough12 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Anna may have had a gun over her shoulder but she did not fire a shot, she did not hurt or kill anybody, just like in their own country Anna a female was completely under the mens control but she never fired a shot or hurt or killed anybody. I am a U.S. MARINE & these are my opinions & beliefs. Unfortunately even in reality a female like Anna would be railroaded just like Anna is in this episode so I cannot say one way or the other whether it is bad writing or good writing so I would have to say it's neither. Anna should not have been charged with anything at all since she did not fire a shot or hurt or kill anybody at all.

Too much Olivia
patrickphair23 April 2022
This episode was a tough one to watch, but not only for the subject matter but for watching Olivia do what ever she wanted to do. Exactly when was she put in charge of all of NYPD. Just too much this time.
