When Marion (Rihanna) asks for a promotion, she asks for Janet's old job. Janet Leigh played Marion in Psycho (1960).
The advertisements for "R.A. Bloch Realty" seen near Marion Crane's (Rihanna) desk are a reference to Robert Bloch, the writer of "Psycho."
Sam (Austin Nichols) telling Marion (Rihanna) that he has debt problems is a reference to his financial situation in Psycho (1998).
Nestor Carbonell (Romero) and Vera Farmiga (Norma) did not appear in this episode (although the latter appeared in a flashback near the end of the episode, she wasn't seen throughout the rest of the episode) which makes Freddie Highmore (Norman) the only main cast member to appear in every episode of the series.
Carlton Cuse's cameo in the episode echoes that of Alfred Hitchcock's cameos in his films. In Psycho (1998), he is seen outside Marion's office wearing a stetson towards the start of film after she returns to work from her tryst with Sam.
