Hilarious Kidnapping Comedy
npgroup16 March 2020
Three buffoons decide to kidnap a lottery winner and the result is a classic comedy, a throwback to the mad caper comedies of the past. The chemistry between the stars is what sells this and with witty quick-fire dialogue flowing throughout there are some truly laugh out loud moments.

The low budget can't be disguised and we could have done with some more ambitious shots, but the film doesn't apologise for it, and all in all it is a very fun and funny ride. Give it a chance. The characters grow on you, make you laugh, and make sure you enjoy yourself - in the end that's what all good comedy should do.

A fun ride and easy watch

I enjoyed this movie as a whole. I really liked the characters and the way they played off of each other. It was also nice to see Linnea Quigley again, I loved her in the 80s horror movies:)

Hilariously funny.
mettlesetdesigner8 July 2023
OK first off I must say I'm a huge fan of dark comedy movies. I also have a soft spot for and love indie films. The Best Laid Plans is the best of both those worlds! I ran across this indie comedy gem on the streaming service Tubi and I was not disappointed. I laughed quite a bit throughout. The movie is about three goofballs friends that decide to kidnap an old friend from school who just won the lottery but these three are so sweet and funny and naturally born criminals they are not! If you are looking for a good laugh watch Kevin, Allen, John and Tommy in this hilarious comedy The Best Laid Plans.

Uneven
blanche-27 October 2023
It is so difficult to get a film made, yet Michael Licastri has done just that. He should be applauded for his efforts.

The story is okay - college grads who can't get jobs and are desperate. When they learn a former classmate has won the lottery, they decide to kidnap him and steal his money.

This film was made on the cheap. Unfortunately the acting ranged from abominable to bad. The attempts at witty dialogue were just that - attempts. There is nothing wrong with a lot of the dialogue, but this was no All About Eve.

We all have to start somewhere. Licastri has some experience under his belt, though I haven't seen his other work.

He needs a budget, good actors, and the film length to develop his script and characters. There were some good themes here - unemployment, the ease of getting guns, but nothing was really fleshed out.

Just Good, Clean, Kidnapping Fun
TheAll-SeeingI5 February 2020
"The Best Laid Plans" expertly leverages mainstay attributes from the genres of comedy, heist, and buddy movie to present an unbroken assault of highly engaging, caper-based fun.

Jealous and cash poor, a group of young male friends are bent when a former classmate wins the lottery. Logically, a kidnapping is deemed appropriate. And once the target is stashed in the getaway car, "The Best Laid Plans" steps on the accelerator and takes itself (and us) to joyous next levels.

The casting of each of these non-threatening, hard-not-to-love buffoons is truly spot-on. Each manifests traits that are endearing, attractively familiar, and gleefully relatable. "The Best Laid Plans" locked us in from the get-go, and kept us grinning throughout. - (Was this review of use to you? If so, let me know by clicking "Helpful." Cheers!)

Fun fast and furious. The main reason I purchased Amazon Prime was to get a chance to watch films done by talented Indy producers and directors that can only be seen here. Best decision I ever made. Great comedy which get me engaged throughout the entire film!!

First Time Kidnappers
JGReviews7 February 2020
"3 Guys. One Shotgun. $150,000." -- I was in on The Best Laid Plans after I read the tagline. Three goofballs who really have no business engaging in crime decide to kidnap an old classmate who has just won the lottery. It's an indie comedy that brings some fresh creativity and laughs to this genre by having these three unique misfits committing the kidnapping. This isn't a big budget caper film with Hollywood sheen by any means, but I think the film is executed well enough to deserve your attention. If you're looking for a fun indie comedy, I'd recommend checking out The Best Laid Plans.

What would you do for the money?
cbax12315 February 2020
This film asks a great question, what would you do for the money? It's not a super original question but the film does a unique job of answering the question and delivers a fun, comical film that doesn't feel derivative in any sense. I had a fun laugh with the characters and was quite entertained throughout. Worth the watch!

I laughed
sammykewlguy19 February 2020
I laughed quite a bit during this fun and self-aware comedy (I guess I can say that because of the Fargo reference made in the movie). It's about three friends who kidnap a recently rich guy who has a history with him. Their plan is simple but these guys aren't naturally born criminals. They are so sweet and yet desperation leads their actions. The film definitely benefits from some good dialog, and I loved how the actors interacted with each other. It's a lot of fun.

Cool indie hostage comedy
original-apparel25 February 2020
Sit back, relax and watch these three characters, whose chemistry works so well that I wouldn't put it past them as being best friends in real life, attempt to go as far as committing crimes in order to save one friend's parents house. These characters are likable and I suggest to them is to make more movies using the same characters but in a new adventure. The dialog is well thought out and the overall production is above your average indie.

Witty, dark and funny
jblockbuster25 March 2020
Enjoyed this! I'm a fan of dark comedies, and if you appreciate dry humour, definitely give this a try. Quirky characters - a group of broke young men who get to know that a former classmate won the lottery. They are jealous and come up with a plan! The result? A witty dark fun film with character who grow on you :)

Twisted desperation

The Best Laid Plans is abtly titled as a group of misfits fall on hard times, decide to hatch a plan to rob someone that wins a fortune and as you can expect and predict things go wrong but you will enjoy the ride.

Check this sweet-natured funny flick out!
ptcrowe5 March 2020
The indie comedy "The Best Laid Plans" is a funny dog romp about three slacker buddies who come upon the get-rich-quick plan of kidnapping an ex-classmate for ransom. The pay off in cinematic terms is a playful, likeable flick that moves along at a brisk pace as it delivers a steady stream of chuckles as we come to really enjoy the jokey banter of the three protagonists as they set upon their lame-brained scheme. Kudos to director/star Michael LiCastri for keeping this breezy low-budget comedy on course while allowing the trio of main performers (including himself playing the blustery "mastermind" of the caper) to create some enjoyable chemistry together which, in the end, is the ultimate strength of the movie. Check this sweet-natured funny flick out!

Very Good Indie Comedy
js190623 February 2020
I really did not know what to expect when I watched the trailer for this film. But I can honestly say that this film is very good. It is the kind of comedy indie film that most guys in their twenties when their life is a standstill can relate to. It is not a big budget million dollar film, but I give the production team a lot of credit for this indie comedy for pulling this off. I highly recommend this Indie comedy.

fun relatable indie film
lbruhnca7 May 2020
Loved this comedic film about broke college students going outside the bounds to get their problems solved. Yes it's a dark comedy, which I like, but the characters are likeable, funny, and relatable - great acting and plot. I needed a good laugh and was glad a friend recommended this one! What people will do when it comes to money, or the lack of it!

Three Great Oddballs In A Movie
tkonkle26 February 2020
Great to see Linnea in there too! The film's premise is classic dark screwball comedy. These kinds of films rely on the chemistry of the comic characters who in this film bicker and create wonderful silly comic scenes as they get in deeper in deeper into their crazy plan to kidnap someone. The indie worked for me because the timing and character interaction was sharp and stylized. It was a wonderful find and kudos to all. This is part of my deep dive into what indie films are good and out there on Amazon. Take a look!

Loved the film. Truly shows what friends will go through to get what they want. Everything was great to the cinematography to the way the actors all portrayed very well and natural. Hope to see more from this filmmaker. J. D'andrea

A fine indie feature
MediaManAlpha14 March 2020
This is a well intentioned indie movie with cute and funny characters, minimalistic story, and (unfortunately) a very low budget. The latter fact doesn't really damage the movie per se, but money would have been able to improve virtually every aspect of the end product in very profound ways.

This is clearly an indie film right off the bat with heart, and it doesn't disguise nor apologize for that fact. The real victory here, though, is the writing. It's often clever and witty with banter from characters you like to invest in, and often feels reminiscent of early Kevin Smith.

The only real beef I had with "Best Laid Plans" was how the final resolution was carried out. It was a bit slapdash and rushed with very little crescendo. This too, however, plays ok for the movie as the affable characters continue, and really, we've stayed for the writing and fun anyway.
