- Hope: [reading from old book] "A man of words and not of deeds is like a garden full of weeds. And when the weeds begin to crawl, it's like a bird upon the wall. And when the bird away does fly, it's like an eagle in the sky. And when the sky begins to roar, it's like a lion at the door. And when the door begins to crack, it's like a stick across your back. And when your back begins to smart, it's like a knife inside your heart. And when your heart begins to bleed, you're dead and dead and dead indeed."
- Klaus Mikaelson: Not exactly the most uplifting reading material.
- Hope: [exhales] It's an old book of rhymes. There's a lot of weird stuff here.
- Klaus Mikaelson: You know, Hope, I'd rather you didn't play here actually. All the splinters and the dust.
- [clearly not putting her off, so:]
- Klaus Mikaelson: And the bats.
- Hope: There aren't any bats.
- Klaus Mikaelson: I've seen no evidence that your Uncle Elijah doesn't sleep here hanging upside down.
- Hope: [chuckles] Dad, was there a little boy who used to live here?
- Klaus Mikaelson: [takes the book from her little hands, closes it] Come along, sweetheart. We can discuss ancient history another time.
- Keelin: [Freya is preparing a spell] Love potion number nine?
- Freya Mikaelson: Boundary spell. I'm trying to protect my family against evil bastards who refuse to remain dead. Speaking of which,
- [sighs]
- Freya Mikaelson: where were you earlier? You know it's not safe out there.
- Keelin: I was job hunting. In fact, I have an interview at St. Theodora's Clinic in the Ninth Ward later.
- Freya Mikaelson: So, you're staying. But you... You seemed so eager to get back to your old life. What changed?
- Keelin: Well, I liked Austin. I had friends, and I also had a lot of secrets. I didn't have anyone who really knew me.
- [Freya turns around to look at her expectantly]
- Keelin: And here, well, there's not much to hide.
- [a smile plays on Freya's features]
- Keelin: So, if it works out, maybe we can celebrate? I've never done the whole Bourbon Street bacchanalia thing.
- [snickers]
- Freya Mikaelson: [happy to hear that, but:] Uh, that witch, Dominic, he's still out there, so... if he wants my brothers dead, I have to find a way to put him down.
- Keelin: No, right. Family first.
- Freya Mikaelson: Yeah. But, I mean, once I take care of it, a celebration's certainly in order.
- [smiles]
- Freya Mikaelson: Meet me for a midnight drink at Rousseau's?
- Keelin: [nods] Okay.
- [on her way]
- Freya Mikaelson: Okay.
- Klaus Mikaelson: [Hayley is pouring through the content of the boxes, engrossed by old baby album] Are you hosting a yard sale?
- Hayley Marshall: I just figured while we're stuck here, I may as well work out which stuff to keep and which to donate.
- Klaus Mikaelson: Listen, I found Hope... exploring the rubbish in the attic. She's restless.
- Hayley Marshall: [shakes her head] She's not restless. She's bored. Most kids her age would be at school. They'd have friends to play with.
- Klaus Mikaelson: Once Freya teaches her to hone her magic, she'll be powerful beyond measure. She won't need friends. She'll be *worshipped.*
- Hayley Marshall: She doesn't wanna be worshipped. She just wants someone to hold the other end of the jump rope.
- Klaus Mikaelson: She'll be above such things. She will have power enough to protect herself from anything. We won't have to trap her in bloody boundary spells...
- [reaches out with his hand towards the window]
- Klaus Mikaelson: just to keep her safe.
- Hayley Marshall: Thank you... by the way. I know it's not in your nature to keep violence out of this house.
- Klaus Mikaelson: We'll protect her innocence for as long as we can. You and I both know the importance of that.
- [shakes his head]
- Klaus Mikaelson: No one protected ours.
- Hayley Marshall: [chuckles] Well, while you're here, you may as well help me go through this stuff. You might find something
- [with lilt in her voice:]
- Hayley Marshall: useful.
- Klaus Mikaelson: Oh, look at that.
- [picks up book, kids around:]
- Klaus Mikaelson: How To Defeat The Hollow, Volume 1.
- [gasps]
- Klaus Mikaelson: Hidden in here amongst these old Guns N' Roses records.
- [Hayley smiles happily]
- Klaus Mikaelson: Oh, sweet child of mine!
- Hope: [came down to visit Marcel in the cell] Hi. I think this is yours.
- [holds out old carved figurine]
- Marcel Gerard: Hope.
- [she tosses him the figurine, he catches it]
- Marcel Gerard: I haven't seen this in a century.
- Hope: So... you're the little boy who used to live in my house.
- Marcel Gerard: Once upon a time, I lived here with your Dad.
- Hope: He keeps you down here because he thinks you want to kill him. Do you?
- Marcel Gerard: Listen... I will tell you anything you wanna know, okay? If you get me some blood from your Dad's stash.
- Hope: I'm seven, not stupid.
- Marcel Gerard: [chuckles] Right. And you're also pretty courageous. Come down here and talk to a stranger.
- Hope: I'm not scared.
- [proudly:]
- Hope: I'm a Mikaelson witch.
- Marcel Gerard: I'll tell you what. Let's start fresh, all right? It's very good to see you again, Hope Mikaelson. My name's Marcel.
- [she smiles at him]
- Marcel Gerard: You know, I'm surprised your parents don't storm down here looking for you.
- Hope: My Mom trusts me.
- Marcel Gerard: Yeah. But your Dad's never trusted anyone in his life.
- Hope: If he took care of you when you were little, why do you hate him? What did he do to you?
- Marcel Gerard: [sighs] Your Dad, he raised me. He made me who I am. Now, you ask if I hate him, well.. It's hard to hate the person who made you what you are. You just end up hating yourself. The truth is, I would like to hate your Dad, I really would. It would make things a lot easier. But, uh...
- [inhales deeply]
- Marcel Gerard: You can't hate someone who you loved for so long.
- [Hope listens attentively]
