- Psychic visions draw Eleven to a band of violent outcasts and an angry girl with a shadowy past.
- Eleven realizes that her mother showed her a little girl from Hawkins Lab in the memory meaning for Eleven to find her. She locates the girl in the void, steals from Becky to buy a bus ticket, and goes to Chicago. She finds "Eight," or Kali living with a group of outcasts in an abandoned warehouse. Kali embraces Eleven (who introduces herself as Jane) and accepts her as her sister. She tells Eleven that she and her friends are all social outcasts and they spend their time getting back at the people who hurt them. Like Eleven, Kali has powers - she can make people see or not see what she wants. She demonstrates by making a butterfly appear to Eleven.
Kali learns of Elevens powers of telekinesis and her ability to locate people using just an image and realizes that Eleven can help the group. She shows Eleven photos of people they would like to locate and kill and Eleven recognizes one man, Ray, as the man who administered the electrocution that destroyed her mother's mental state. The group gives Eleven a makeover and they go to Ray's house, stopping to rob a convenience store on their way.
They hold Roy at gunpoint and Kali tells Eleven to kill Ray with her powers, but Eleven sees a photo of Ray with small children. She realizes that if she kills Ray, she is no better than the people who took her mother away from her. She takes away Kali's gun with her powers and the group leaves. Eleven has a vision of Hopper and Mike in the void and realizes that she needs to go back to Hawkins to help them. She leaves Kali and the others and gets back on the bus.
