Miguel Makes More Moves
Samuel-Shovel24 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
In "La Última Frontera" Miguel tries to broker a deal with the government to protect the cocaine agreement he made with the Colombian cartels to transport the shipments through Mexico. Kiki and the DEA come up with a sting operation to lure Miguel into the United States so they can arrest him. Maria discovers that Miguel might have mistresses all over town. Rafa and Falcon square off over the confiscated truck of weed, trading blows as the two sides hire bigger and bigger armies to gain control.

Narcos is almost always solid and this episode is no exception. I think the weakest part for me was the subpar action set piece of Falcon's men retaking the weed from Rafa. It all came across a bit sloppy. I'm also unsure of where Maria stands in all of this. Up to now, she wasn't really a central character in all of this but here we dedicate a lot of screentime to her. She's a good actress and I wouldn't mind seeing more of her.

A very well episode

Greetings from Lithuania.

"La Última Frontera", 6 th episode was a very good one, because it did move the story further and did it in a very intense way. Pacing of this episode was great, and the ending kinda left me wishing to see next episodes ASAP.

Overall, this one as well as previous 5 episodes as very good ones. Maybe at this point it enjoyed the first seasons a bit more, but its a very good show on its own.

Warning: Spoilers
This was another good episode, but the highlight was obviously the lengthy scene with Felix nearly falling into custody by crossing the border, but getting saved at the last minute. If you have watched any of the first three seasons of Narcos you could tell what would happen and that he wasn't getting caught here, but that did not make it any less exciting.

Warning: Spoilers
This excellent episode contains good plot development for almost every character. Kiki's plan to lure Gallardo to the US where he can be arrested is well executed, and suspenseful to watch even though we doubt he will succeed this early in the season. Seeing Gallardo pull up to the US border is tense as we start to wonder how he will get out of this one. After he takes the phone call, he stands up, faces America and it feels like he can "see" his American enemies for the first time, even though he can't really see them. The failure is a powerful moment, and a turning point for Kiki.

Gallardo also faces high stakes back at home, with Falcon gone rogue. His words to Isabella about Gallardo's lies are memorable for how they are proven true shortly after he says them. It's a true show of Gallardo's way of casting people aside when they are no longer useful.

Gallardo's wife's investigation is the only part of this hour that I didn't like. It just wasn't interesting. I don't care if Gallardo has been sleeping with other women. Neither do I care about his wife's way of letting him know.

A fine episode

Warning: Spoilers
This episode reveals more of the DEA's misconduct, making it harder to be on the side of the DEA in Mexico. The Kiki character is not at all helpful if the DEA is to be considered the good guys. The way he is portrayed, the message is that the agent is contemptuous of the sovereignty of Mexico in his push to advance his own personal agenda: his own career.

From early on, it was clear that Kiki went to Mexico to further his own career. Once there, he disregarded the fact that he was a guest in Mexico, and he wanted to arrogate power and influence for himself that he never had. He didn't care at all that being pushy would anger people in the Mexican government, even if he was putting his life and the lives of his family members in danger.

The story paints a picture of Kiki as someone who brought his own demise on himself by his attitude and actions. Looking at the situation with the DEA in Mexico was that US politicians wanted to establish that US laws took precedence of Mexican laws. That's an odd way of trying to show Americans as the good guys, and we're left to wonder if that was even the intent of the story.
