Warning: Spoilers
"Protége-Moi" is a song by music group Placebo from 2003, so this music video is already over 15 years old and it is more known than your average music video because the writer and director here is Argentinian filmmaker Gaspar Noé who has been making films for a long time now and had a pretty successful new release last year too. Now back to this one: Noé has made many short films in his career, but music videos not that many, so it was kinda new territory for him. At under 4 minutes it really isn't a long film. I am as always a bit undecided about Placebo if I like them or not. The chorus is catchy and the voice has huge recognition value. The film starts in French, but gets better when the lyrics turn to English. By the way, I don't think Noé has written the lyrics, just the plot/action if you want to say so. By the way, said action feels like taken out of Noé's most recent work that I mentioned already, it is an orgy and we see several people having intercourse. Amazing how he manages to depict something like that while hardly showing anything in terms of nudity. That's all there is to it, not much of a story. I think the song is better than the music video, even if the music video isn't bad either. But overall, something is just missing for me to recommend the overall outcome. It sure isn't Titof, a highly prolific adult film actor, who is in here too. If you really love either Noé or Placebo, at bestg both, go check this one out. I give it a thumbs-down though, even if it is a close call admittedly. Not recommended.
