A confusingly plotted mess of a film
Leofwine_draca27 October 2016
This is a really, really bad film, amateurish in nature and no match for the talents of star Simon Yam, who is used so little that he appears to be a supporting player in his own film. It's a would-be crime thriller in which Yam plays a weary assassin seeking out the villains behind his wife's murder; little does he know that his own employers are using him as a pawn in a deadly game, one that will have repercussions for all involved.

COLD WAR is a film so confusingly plotted that after a while I didn't have a clue what was going on. The editing is choppy, the direction confusing, and the use of flashbacks throughout the movie make the whole thing a chore to work out. Even worse, you won't really care about the lives of these deathly dull characters who are just going through the motions.

Bizarrely, the film was directed by beloved kung fu star 'Beardy', who also has a small role playing a pair of twins. He should have stayed in front of the camera. Popular Hong Kong actress Christy Cheung also appears. Some of the film was shot in South Korea but this just serves to muddy the waters still further. Those looking for action will be disappointed by the brief, choppy action scenes which look as amateurish as the rest of it. I can only imagine that COLD WAR's extreme low budget was responsible for the rubbish quality of the thing.
