It took nearly 20 years to make "The Conjuring," a "based on a true story" film about the supposed hauntings of the Perron family in Harrisville, Rhode Island. For over 14 years, producer Tony DeRosa-Grund went from studio to studio trying to make the film happen, but it wasn't until writers Chad and Carey W. Hayes updated the script and shifted the perspective from the Perron family to paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren that there was movement on the picture. The duo interviewed Lorraine Warren to ensure authenticity, and the new script sparked a massive bidding war. The Hayes brothers had cracked the code — the secret of what would become a massive franchise lay with the Warrens.

Released last fall, Lucky McKee’s “chamber thriller” Old Man had nothing to do with the Don’t Breathe films, despite starring Stephen Lang – who played the “Blind Man” in both Don’t Breathe and Don’t Breathe 2. But that didn’t stop the movie’s Russian distributor from marketing it as a prequel to those films! During an interview with Jb Hi-Fi, McKee laughed about the fact that his movie is part of the Don’t Breathe franchise, as far as Russia is concerned.
McKee said, “In Russia, they released it as Don’t Breathe: The Beginning. Kind of like the Italians used to do back in the day, with movies like Zombi 2.“
Sure enough, if you search the title Don’t Breathe: The Beginning, you’ll find confirmation that Old Man is a Don’t Breathe prequel in Russia.

Welcome back to Dead Time. Do you believe in ghosts? Even if you’re a skeptic, you’ve probably tuned into at least one of the many TV shows or web series about ghost hunting. I’ve been watching paranormal reality television shows since Ghost Hunters first aired on Syfy in 2004, so this month I wanted to talk to one of the Og ghost hunters, paranormal investigator and researcher Adam Berry.
The original Ghost Hunters featured paranormal investigators Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson, who formed The Atlantic Paranormal Society (Taps) and assembled a team which included Steve Gonsalves and Dave Tango. Each episode followed the Taps team as they explored allegedly haunted locations, and the show became extremely successful. Ghost Hunters eventually spawned several spinoff television series, including Ghost Hunters Academy (2009), a paranormal competition reality show. When paranormal investigator Adam Berry won Ghost Hunters Academy, his prize was supposed to...

Stephen Lang – who played the “Blind Man” in Don’t Breathe (watch it Here) and its sequel – stars in genre filmmaker Lucky McKee’s “chamber thriller” Old Man, and a couple weeks ago we learned that Rlje Films has picked up the Old Man distribution rights and plans to give the film a theatrical, VOD, and digital release on October 14th. With the release date just a month away, a trailer for Old Man has now arrived online, and you can check it out in the embed above.
Scripted by Joel Veach, who also wrote the story as a play that was workshopped at the Actor’s Studio in New York, Old Man follows
a lost hiker who stumbles upon the cabin of an erratic and reclusive Old Man. What starts off as cordial conversation soon turns dangerous as it becomes clear that one or both of them might be hiding a terrifying secret.

Almost two years have gone by since we first heard that Stephen Lang – who played the “Blind Man” in Don’t Breathe (watch it Here) and its sequel – would be starring in genre filmmaker Lucky McKee’s “chamber thriller” Old Man, not to be confused with the Jeff Bridges TV series The Old Man. Now it has been announced that Rlje Films has picked up the Old Man distribution rights and plans to give the film a theatrical, VOD, and digital release on October 14th.

Stan and Screen Queensland have put a call out for drama series pitches from Queensland-based writers and creative teams, as part of a joint development initiative.
The Sq + Stan Premium Drama Development Fund 2020 will see up to four writers/teams selected for further development and possible commission with the streaming service.
The creative brief is for high-end, Australian drama with world class scope and scale, pitched at the 15-45 age demographic. The real-life 'Conjuring' family are reuniting for the Kindred Spirits ghost hunt. We have an exclusive clip.
When The Conjuring debuted in 2013, the $20 million modestly-budgeted haunted house horror flick directed by James Wan became a $319 million juggernaut, and re-introduced famed paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren to modern audiences. But the core of the story revolved around the real-life Perron Family who lived in the Rhode Island home, and were allegedly tormented by evil spirits.
Though the Perrons moved out of the house nearly 40 years ago, having lived with paranormal activity for a decade—and claiming to experience the ghost of a woman with a broken neck, being possessed, or levitated—the so-called Conjuring House still stands. And it remains occupied by the living, and perhaps also by spirits of the dead.
Which is why paranormal investigators and producers Amy Bruni, Adam Berry, as well as psychic/medium Chip Coffey,...

Ghost stories have been interesting to watch even as children when “Courage the Cowardly Dog” tried saving his owners from spirits that had made the farm their home. One person who is known for helping families find peace in their haunted houses is Adam Berry. He prides himself as not just a cabaret singer, theater performer, and actor, but also as a paranormal investigator. He came into the limelight when he was featured in “Ghost Hunters Academy” and now has his own series, “Kindred Spirits,” where he investigates paranormal activity with Amy Bruni. Maurice Ward was a British hairdresser who invented a material called “Starlite” that he claimed could withstand fire and even nuclear blasts. It drew the attention of Boeing, Nasa, and the British military, and then… it disappeared. “Starlite” is the subject of the latest “Shoot This Now” podcast, which you can listen to on Spotify or right here.
The mystery of “Starlite” is one of those stories that makes you think, “How have I never heard of this before?”
When I first heard of it, I assumed Starlite must be a hoax. But reputable scientists appeared to take Ward’s invention very seriously. (Don’t take my word for it; here’s a video from the BBC.)

People who think Daenerys Targaryen’s turn to the dark side came out of nowhere in the penultimate episode of “Game of Thrones” are flatly wrong, for reasons I explain in the latest “Low Key” podcast. You can listen on Apple or right here.
The podcast episode includes Aaron Lanton, Keith Dennie and me in a (dragon-) fiery debate about whether Dany’s bloodlust came too fast or without warning, as some critics of the episode, entitled “The Bells,” have argued. Many feel that the show’s writers didn’t properly set the stage for her suddenly awful behavior. But they did.

As Ireland starved, help came from an unlikely place. How the Choctaw people came to the aid of strangers on an island thousands of miles away is the subject of our latest “Shoot This Now” podcast, available on Apple or right here:
1847 was the darkest year of the Irish famine, sometimes also called the Great Hunger or the Potato Famine. In Gaellic, the native language of Ireland, it’s called “Bliain an Drochshaoil,” which means “hard life,” or “hard times.”
A million people starved. Many more fled Ireland, scattering in desperation across the world.

Where can you meet likeminded UFO and paranormal enthusiasts from around the world? Check out these conventions.
At most comic cons, and fan events, one expects to run into people dressed as supernatural entities, extraterrestrials, and mysterious creatures. But at paranormal, cryptozoology, and ufology events, fans are discussing the existence of them – and often gather to actively go looking for them.
And as much as I move about in the world of comic cons, for the past decade or so, I have spent weekends traveling the world to talk as a journalist and researcher about ghosts, demons, curses, aliens, UFO, and monsters. During the day, the world of paracons closely resembles most fan events, and there is quite a bit of cross-pollination between them. There are panels, vendor rooms, and signings by notable authors, television personalities, and occasionally actors from paranormal pop culture. For famous TV paranormal investigators, after years of ghost hunting, they probably think they’ve pretty much seen it all. A normal investigation into Travel Channel's paranormal investigators reveals they are Kindred Spirits.
You're never alone when you grow up in a haunted house. This could lead to embarrassment as you hit adolescence, but unless there's serious poltergeist activity, the experience is usually fairly mundane.
