Georges Schwizgebel does a pretty excellent job adapting Goethe's poem here: Without a single spoken word, the eere vibe from the source material is captured perfectly well, alternating its tone from whimsical to nightmarish in a way similar to a fever dream.
The maliciously alluring nature of the Erlking is captured perfectly well, as well as the ambiguous nature of its existence, with him looking at moments almost as a drawing of a child just to switch into something far more menaching.
A haunting short, quite deserving of recognition. I personally think this could be easily considered the best animation made by Schwizgebel.
8.5/10.
