Maybe works better on stage?
I gather this is a play written by the woman playing "Anna" in this version. I have never seen or read the play, so it's hard to comment on the writing in it's original form, but I didn't think it translated to tv very well. Not that it wasn't a good story, but the dialogue felt very forced and unnatural.

I wanted to love this, I really did. Whilst I liked the story in general, it felt a bit like a very long PSA video to be shown in schools (maybe it should be). I felt the acting was very wooden, especially from the mum and two sisters, but it was hard to tell if the fault was in the actors, the writing or simply the fact that this was a play as I already mentioned, hence why it would be interesting to see/read the play.

I thought perhaps the writer was a little out of touch with how the youth of today speak, perhaps to the point of trying TOO hard and making it seem too cringey. I also thought everyone that was meant to be school-aged looked a lot older and I wish casting would stop doing this. The girl who was supposed to be the "little sister", whilst quite angelic looking, really didn't seem like a "little sister" at all. I'm not saying she's unattractive or looked like an old lady, but she looked like she should be at university, rather than still in high school in a younger class than her sister. This is the sort of thing that works on stage but really doesn't on tv.

Overall, it was ok. Like I said, I would genuinely be interested to see this on stage as I get the feeling it might be better. However I do think this would be a very good thing to show young impressionable girls in secondary schools.

An authentic depiction of E.D.
ismahane1 July 2020
This series offers one of the best illustrations of how it feels like to spiral out of control and fall into the grips of mental illness. It's definetly not Hollywood level, and the acting may not be Oscar worthy, but the main characters acting is so raw and beautiful and the story is so authentic and accurate. I definetly recommend everyone watch it, if you dont have an E.D.,if you do proceed with caution.
