A slice of messy life.

An interesting character study that left me wanting to know more as it concluded. This also seems to be a Kristine's rehearsal for Looking For Alaska. Somehow she has this kind of of bittersweet character nailed.

"Pretty Is" is an American English-language short film from 2017 and the most recent filmmaking effort by Alan Scott Neal and at the sametime the only filmmaking effort by writer Lindsey Johnson. It runs for a quarter of an hour, slightly over and tells us the story of a young woman looking for love or at least recognition. She struggles early on with a guy her age, but finds comfort in a man more than twice her age later on, a guy who has a special connection to the girl's church as we find out early on begore the two get together. Near the end, there is something resembling a conclusion or at least something that tells us if their togetherness will have a future. I don't thinkt he actors were bad in this film at all. The lead actress is also pretty attractive and her (second) romantic interest also looks pretty good given his age I would say. I mean this film is just two years old now, not ten, although maybe more depending on when you read this review. What I actually wanted to say is that it shows that basically all cast members here have been in many films too, enjoying a prolific career, so the acting is definitely not the problem. I would say the script is. Even for such a short running time, it drags occasionally and that is of course a negative deal-breaker here. It just never feels really interesting honestly the way the characters were written, even if luckily we are still way above failure territory. I must say nonetheless I was glad this film was pretty short because at half an hour or so I may have given it an even worse rating. Attention to detail and focus certainly could have been better. But the cast deserves more than one star out of five, so all in all I give it a thumbs-down, but not a too rigorous one. Still this film did not manage to get me curious about other works by ASN or anybody else associated with this project. Watch something else instead.
