After voicing the leads in The Lego Movie franchise, The Super Mario Bros. Movie and now The Garfield Movie, Chris Pratt has established himself as a go-to voice for iconic animated characters. But after doing these multiple roles, how does he make each voice unique?
At the Los Angeles premiere of Garfield on Sunday, Pratt walked The Hollywood Reporter through each of the different voices, noting that as Emmet in The Lego Movie, he “aimed at something that was different than myself — it was kind of inspired a lot by Bill Hader’s voice and his character in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” and for Mario, “you had to find some version that was different than myself but not hardcore Mario from the games because that would grow a little tiresome, I think.”

The summer movie season could use some help, and Chris Pratt might just be here to save the day. The "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "Jurassic World" actor returns to the silver screen next weekend in "The Garfield Movie," an animated take on Jim Davis' orange, Monday-hating cat. For Sony Pictures, there is one big question; can some of that Pratt magic that made "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" ($1.36 billion worldwide) such a major hit last year rub off on this one? Even a fraction of that magic would be most welcome here.
"The Garfield Movie" is opening directly against George Miller's "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga." While the animated, family-friendly film would typically have the edge, it looks like "Furiosa" is going to win the weekend in the early going, with an opening between $46.5 and $59 million. But that doesn't mean this cat is out of luck, as Sony...

There are still mysteries that remain in Super Mario 64, which is also why the game is fun to play to this date. Players are running around in the first 3D Mario game, collecting the stars from Whomp’s Fortress, Hazy Maze Caves, Lethal Lava Land, and more. But one of the levels has this one cabin that strikes them differently.
Just because it has this unopenable door, players have been trying to force their way into the cabin. However, nothing has proved successful until now. Somebody gave the seemingly impossible task a go, and four hours later, or, should we say, 28 years later, his efforts paid off.
That’s Another Mission Success For Super Mario 64 Fans
Super Mario 64 is still considered one of the greatest games of all time.
Almost after three decades, a YouTuber named Alexpalix1 managed to exploit the technical glitch to enter the door no one could.

While promoting the new Garfield animated pic, Chris Pratt briefly touched on his past performance as the princess-saving Brooklyn plumber, Mario.
Despite receiving negative reviews from critics, the 2023 animated Super Mario Bros. Movie was an unexpected blockbuster, as it went on to set the record for biggest global opening for an animated movie.
After everything was said and done, the movie made $1.362 billion globally on a meager $100 million production budget. That feat made The Super Mario Bros. Movie the most financially successful film of 2023, according to Deadline Hollywood.
A sequel was officially announced on March 10, 2024, as part of Mario Day celebrations and given an April 3, 2026 release date.
Speaking to Total Film, Pratt teased, "I can't tell you much but I can say that there is another Mario movie coming. It gets me very excited thinking about the world of Mario and Nintendo in general, I think over the next decade...

The Box Office last year was a phenomenal event. Led by Margot Robbie’s Barbie and Christopher Nolan’s nuclear bomb thriller with Marvel witnessing its first-ever bomb, many miracles and misses made it an eventful year. While there were several incredible movies and features, it was ultimately the Barbemheimer that won the hearts of many.

In October 2018 while sharing beers in a frigid Milwaukee bar with his soon-to-be leading man Ryland Tews, director, visual effects artist and editor of “Hundreds of Beavers” Mike Cheslik conceived the film based on three simple elements: his After Effects skills, familiarity with snow and Tews’ uncanny ability to fall over.
“We knew that the image of a guy in a mascot costume falling down was fundamentally funny,” Cheslik explains. “And if that is in every shot, even if our gags aren’t working well, we have the fundamental comedy of mascot animal. Is that right, Ryland?”
“Absolutely,” Tews says in response. “We just wanted to make a movie that looked like nothing else.”

Even those only vaguely familiar with video games probably know names like Super Mario, Grand Theft Auto, and Call of Duty. They’re the franchises that have come to dominate gaming over the last 50 years or so. Some of those franchises are currently being updated almost every year, while the new releases in others have become milestone events that seem to reshape the industry. New franchises come along and others fade away, but the biggest and best video game franchises have been slowly growing for years and, in some cases, decades.
Honestly, it can all be a little difficult to keep up with. For as significant as gaming’s biggest franchises are, they’re also…well, big. Over a long enough period of time, it’s easy to forget when specific games in certain franchises were released and where exactly they fit into the history of those series. You may know the names,...

It’s undeniable. Fallout is an absolute hit, and the age of terrible TV adaptations and low expectations is behind us (Halo notwithstanding). After years of sub-standard, terrible adaptations like Resident Evil, Max Payne, and countless others, we gamers thought we were in for the long haul while waiting for good quality TV and movies. Well, that wait is certainly over.
First, we got The Last of Us, then the critically panned but as-equally fun The Super Mario Bros. Movie which was an incredible Mario experience, if a terrible film, and now we have the excellent Prime Video Fallout. And this wealth of good gaming content on the big screen means a few knock-on effects in the actual gaming space.

It didn’t happen at Universal’s presentation, but we finally got a Christopher Nolan announcement at CinemaCon 2024.
On Thursday morning, Paramount Pictures’ President of Domestic Distribution Chris Aronson revealed that Nolan’s “Interstellar” will return to theaters on September 27, 2024 in both 70mm and IMAX formats. The re-release is a celebration of the film’s 10-year anniversary. It is probably also — at least somewhat — a continued celebration of Nolan’s Best Picture-winner “Oppenheimer.”
Of course, the “Oppenheimer” victory isn’t for Paramount to tout, and its studio Universal took a brief victory lap (or two) during its own Wednesday afternoon Colosseum presentation. The on-stage champagne-popping split time with “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” and included a prerecorded message from Nolan. (He did not touch on “Mario.”)
In the package played for a packed house of (mostly) exhibitors, Nolan said he had been “very nervous” about showing “Oppenheimer” footage to the same CinemaCon audience last year.

Movie” become the highest grossing film in Illumination history with $1.36 billion, while Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” became the highest grossing biopic of all-time and the highest grossing Best Picture Oscar winner in 20 years with $968 million.
“We’re here at an unprecedented time in our industry, but no doubt a crossroads that will lead us to a lucrative and exciting future,” Orr told exhibitors. “Audiences are sending us a very clear message…they are ready for something new.”

The recent critical acclaim for HBO’s The Last of Us and the box office success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie have sparked a wave of optimism. Could this be a turning point for video game adaptations?
Pedro Pascal as Joel Miller in The Last of Us
For decades, such adaptations have struggled to capture the essence of beloved games and translate them effectively to the cinematic medium. Despite Hollywood’s persistent efforts to turn popular video game characters into cinematic heroes, the vast majority of these adaptations have fallen flat.

April will not be a good look for domestic box office. We know it can’t possibly compete with 2023, which saw “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” take the month to $900 million, but even a shortfall of 25 percent would be great news.
Two days after AMC Theatre head Adam Aron wished his X followers a happy Easter with the promise that the box office would also rise, his stock price hit a new annual low. Aron’s upbeat messaging aside, the apparent vote of no confidence stemmed from AMC’s announcement that it may sell yet more stock to raise cash.
Happy Easter everyone.
My good news on this Easter Sunday is that in March, the domestic industry box office finally turned upwards. The best March in five years.
This is so encouraging in looking at the movie slate deeper into 2024. Many superb movies are coming. pic.twitter.com/sbhlgiCKlr

Kanye West’s fall from grace has been difficult to watch. Once a legend who relished in his gilded glory, he has now become one of the most controversial figures in the music industry. Helldivers 2 is Unfortunate Proof Outgoing PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan was Right About 1 Genre of Games
PlayStation is currently the reigning champion in the gaming industry, beating both Nintendo and Xbox by a wide margin. This is a combination of many factors, but a great line-up of exclusives and solid hardware has played a big part in its success.
While not one of the most talked-about games before launch, Helldivers 2 has now become a cultural phenomenon. Many would also consider it a reason to buy a PlayStation! However, the popularity of the game is a double-edged sword. It shows a particular genre of games is here to stay, much to the annoyance of gamers.

March 2024 marked the last month of Jim Ryan holding the position of President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment. He has been a critical individual responsible for the growth of the gaming giant.

Helldivers 2, the co-op third-person shooter from Arrowhead Game Studios, is the most surprising but deserving hit of 2024. The game is the direct sequel to the top-down shooter Helldivers, which was released back in 2015. The game has broken several records since its release in February.
The game has been praised by both fans and critics as they fight for democracy against the Automatons and Terminids. But this fun co-op game probably would not have existed if it wasn’t for the Mario developer Nintendo, as it was an inspiration for Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt.

They have even extended their reach into the gaming sphere, leading many fans to hope for Lego builds featuring their favorite franchise. With the immense popularity of Helldivers 2, it was only a matter of time before a request was made for the same, and the CEO of Arrowhead Games has responded.

It’s rare to find a game as overwhelming in its technical mastery as Japanese developer Vanillaware’s Unicorn Overlord. Not technical in the sense of production value (though the game is no slouch in that regard), but in its mechanical design. It’s a tactical RPG whose real-time battles you play from a top-down perspective and can be freely paused so you can issue commands. Those battles play out as brief side-on cutscenes with two units (squads consisting of one-to-six individual characters) launching attacks at each other in sequence, and they’re separated by overworld exploration and a smattering of dialogue-heavy story beats.
The closest precedent for the battle stages of Unicorn Overlord is Quest Corporation’s Ogre Battle series (the sister series/progenitor of Tactics Ogre), which, beginning in 1993, combined real-time strategy and then nascent tactical RPG elements in much the same way. One major distinction is that,...

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League released back in February of this year to a prickly reception from DC fans and critics alike. The game was derided for ruining the beloved legacy of the Batman Arkham games due to its mundane gameplay and grindy nature which never resembled the dark, macabre cat-and-mouse game between the Joker and the Dark Knight in any way, swapping it out for a headache-inducing Ui and mediocre shooting mechanics.
Alarm bells were ringing when no review codes were sent out for the game prior to launch, despite the game having already been delayed multiple times. Within the first two weeks of that eventual launch, the total player count has dropped to a meagre 3 digit figure of less than 1000.

The concept of platform exclusivity, once a cornerstone of gaming giants like Xbox and PlayStation, is facing a reckoning in 2024. Xbox’s recent decision to port previous first-party exclusives to competing platforms, and Helldivers 2, Arrowhead’s smash-hit co-op shooter, have become an unlikely symbol of change, sparking a critical conversation about the future of this practice.
Former CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment America, Shawn Layden, recently weighed in on the exclusivity debate, and said that PlayStation may be shooting themselves in the foot.

Sydney Sweeney has been in a plethora of diverse projects like the mature yet relatable HBO show Euphoria, donning a skin-tight super suit in a poorly received Marvel movie Madame Web, starring in a rom-com that feels like it was straight from the past with Glen Powell in Anyone But You and will star in a horror film titled Immaculate. An impressive resume to adore, and will be more so when she shares her gaming roots through The Simpsons: Hit and Run.
The actress went on in an interview stating that she would play the game with her brother growing up, and it was not a secret that Sweeney has a passion for four wheels and an engine. She was exposed to cars growing up and one thing led to another. Being able to drive in any direction at any speed and do whatever a player wants is certainly right up her alley.

After the mega-success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, it’s no secret that Nintendo and Illumination are looking to maximize their partnership by adapting more classic Nintendo video game properties for the silver screen. To celebrate Mario Day, which was March 10th (get it? But, with a Super Mario Bros Movie 2 finally happening, what other Nintendo properties might be getting a movie?

The word "iconic" gets used a lot, but if there's one character who deserves to be called that, it's Mario. The little mustachioed guy revolutionized gaming (and plumbing) forever. He has defended kingdoms against countless threats, saved princesses, and even fought off gorillas. He hasn't done all that much actual plumbing, but he has been a racer, a doctor, a golfer, a superhero, and even an elephant.
After the huge, incredible, and not entirely surprising box office success of "The Super Mario Bros. After all, if Mario can have almost as many careers as Barbie, why not add "movie star" to the list?

Illumination and Nintendo will join forces to produce a new animated film based on the world of Super Mario Bros.
The companies previously partnered on last year’s “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” which grossed more than $1.3 billion and became the second highest-grossing movie of 2023. It’s unclear which fanciful characters the new film will focus on — be they plumbers, princesses, Koopas or other residents of the Mushroom Kingdom — and the partners are not using the word “sequel.” However, the companies did specify that the movie will be released in theaters on April 3, 2026, in the U.S. and additional markets globally. A court has ordered that the makers of a Switch emulator cease development, and give Nintendo $2.4m in damages.
Like Mario jumping on a Goomba, Nintendo’s legal effort to halt the production of a Switch emulator has been swift and effective. A court in Rhode Island has found in Nintendo’s favour, and has ordered that development on the emulator, called Yuzu, be ceased down immediately.
As reported by Gamespot, the company behind the emulator, Tropic Haze, has also been ordered to hand over $2.4m in damages to Nintendo, and will be unable to develop any similar kinds of software in the future.
Taking to Twitter/X, the makers of Yuzu released a statement, announcing that both Yuzu and Citra – a 3Ds emmulator “are being discontinued, effective immediately.”
The team argued that it has “always been against piracy,” adding, “we started the projects in good faith, out of passion...

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. That seems to be the sensible approach that Nintendo took with this remake of the 2004 puzzle-platformer Mario vs. Donkey Kong, perhaps believing that the original Game Boy Advance game required little mechanical overhaul. However, if you’re dropping into the game hoping for more than just a straight shot of nostalgia, you may find yourself wondering if the experience is diverting enough to justify its existence.
Mario vs. Donkey Kong’s levels are elegantly designed and visually impressive. Oftentimes, they introduce a brand new obstacle and the object you’ll use to overcome it—such as hitting the right color switch to activate a corresponding warp...

Despite appearing in dozens of games since her initial appearance in 1985’s Super Mario Bros. — including as a skilled tactician in Super Mario RPG and the Mario + Rabbids series as well as a flat-out brawler in the Super Smash Bros. franchise — the Mushroom Kingdom’s sovereign has only starred in two games of her very own.

Paramount Pictures didn’t have a bad 2023 but had put a lot of hopes on the latest in the Mission: Impossible franchise to push them towards a great year. After Tom Cruise soared with Top Gun: Maverick, they had hoped fans would flock to theaters once again to see him in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning: Part One. Off that’s a long title. It underperformed, so the next film will get a new name. What can fans look forward to on Paramount’s 2024 release schedule?
Bob Marley: One Love – Now Playing
A new music biopic, which has been a trend that has proved profitable over the last few decades. This one is with the cooperation of the Marley family. I’m curious to see if the film will show anything that might put the singer in a bad light. The biggest problem with these types of films is that...
