Rebel Rebel

Warning: Spoilers
Another solid Season 7 episode of this show. The stuff with the President and Saul could get dull really fast, but I will give it a chance.

Carrie getting pushed to the edge and beating down a creepy hacker was something we haven't seen from the program before, but definitely enjoyed. Hopefully her character continues to go to new levels this season like we've seen in the first two installments because that is key to Homeland remaining fresh and relevant.

The subplot works.

Warning: Spoilers
This is a review only about the 4chan subplot. And, yes, I am here to defend it.

In my opinion, it showcases perfectly Carrie's situation. She's at her lowest point: after what happened in the premiere, her sister believes she's off her meds; Saul is "joining them"; and we get our first reference to Quinn's death. Being one of the best CIA officer's of all time, having saved countless lives all around the globe and fighting terrorism season after season, Carrie now finds herself useless, on her own. And what I believe is most terrifying to her is that she feels that when at home, in America, not when in Islamabad, Tehran or Beirut.

Not downloading a random file in a posting page is Internet 101. But she falls for it. Not because she doesn't know better. But because she doesn't know better NOW. Her foolishness falling for a ransomware in 4chan would be stupid, poor written and a wasted hour of TV had it been in any other season, but I think it fits perfectly in Carrie's situation.

On the other hand, I'm pretty sure this season won't be about international terrorism at all but about national corruption of power. I am not the biggest fan of this House of Cardesque shift of the series, because for me terrorism and espionage are core to the show, but I guess it works ok as a parallelism with the actual US administration. As a non-US fan of the show, though, this season is going to lack the aforementioned topic.

If you disagree with everything I just said, at least you have to agree with the following statement: the 4chan portrayal in the show has to be the best in the history of TV.

Way to go Carrie! Warning: Spoilers
A ransomware hacker was both an unexpected subplot and a refreshing thriller. Carrie was able to do what so many ransomware victims have been unable to do - find the bastard and render much deserved punishment. This may be Draconian, but Carrie should have killed the bastard when she had a chance. That would have silenced him forever. Carrie may have scared him enough to keep him away from her, but I doubt it would stop him from victimizing others. No, it would just make him more cautious with his future victims.

Involving seasons so far
85122228 February 2018
Greetings from Lithuania.

"Rebel Rebel", 2nd episode of season 7 f "Homeland" was involving, plausible and left me wanting to see next episode kinda here right now. This is an improvement in my opinion over season 6 so far, season which was good, but not great, as first 4 seasons (especially) were, and 5th was just good.

That said, i kinda enjoyed these two episodes of this season more then i thought i will be. It was so good to see Saul working again (in a small town, like in season 1), and Carry having here personal issues mixed with "global issues" (like it was in season 1) again.

So far season 7 is an improvement over season 6 so far and kinda came back to its roots. Hope they will provide us with unforgettable moment like they did in previous seasons.

Good episode

Just when I thought it was hopeless the show picked up again with Carrie suffering from veterans issues of being back to boring civilian life and getting mixed up into a potentially dangerous situation that can get her adrenaline flowing again.

It worked
Abdulxoxo1 November 2020
Carrie's little subplot at first seemed kinda cliche and out of place but it's really worked out at the end. it was intense, the guy got what he deserved. meanwhile Saul was getting close to catching O'Keefe. I'm sure it's going to be interesting.

Everything in this episode can be put under sci-fi genre....
Glodar32227 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
CIA agent, SPY, killer visits 4chan and that where she tries to find information, then downloads rware, are you serious, then same hacker that somehow is in possesion of ransomware that noone can crack, fails stupidly and wants to get in face to face meet with SPY (as he knows shes spy, he seen her pc files), then more sci-fi, once she gets to him, in her mission against PRESIDENT and this guy just hacked her and has info that could not just kill her but kill anyone she ever been in contact, she deciedes not to kill him, even tho in past she killed many people, what a CIA agent is this, I can't believe I watched this episode, it ruins my image of this whole show...

Just not believable
wiseguy2331 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Ransomware attacks are not usually from the same country. In this case the guy lives within driving distance? I do not believe a CIA agent would click on a 4chan sent files without thinking - even if it's Carrie. Why would the hacker move towards Carrie while he was wounded and pleading for her not to hurt him. He'd run. He'd do anything besides pull in for a hug or whatever feeble gesture he was doing. Does the therapist know Carrie actually worked for the CIA and actually played a role in stopping the attack on the president? Saying Carrie is grandiose and has to be off her meds or the meds stopped working seems to be less obvious than she assumed.

This is dumbest one of all

Warning: Spoilers
Homeland has been spiraling down the drain for a long time, but this was the most inane of all. As the country is headed for civil war, the president decides that the number one priority is to locate and capture a wacko TV radical, using her new national security advisor fresh out of federal prison. Well, to even out this "suspense" the show takes us to Carrie, CIA genius that she is, who illogically gets her computer hacked with ransomware while spying on the president's number one lackey. To make matters worse, she then proceeds to seduce the ransomer with her womanly guile. By this time we are all laughing uncontrollably as Carrie beats the crap out of the creep and gets her computer unlocked. The only saving grace in all this is that Claire Danes is professional enough to sell it. Can't wait for the next thrilling episode of Gilligan's Island.
