A sublime and amazing moment in music history

"Baker Street" is from the series of "songs that never get old and I'll always love it no matter what". I still have a vivid memory about how I first listened to this song almost twenty years ago, playing on a school administration and that classic, sexy and amazing sax solo never left my head - it'd take a couple of months later to find out what was the song and who Gerry Rafferty was. From then on, it became one of my favorite songs of all time.

Sax players also may think the same way since the elaborated and complex use of the instrument makes it a challenge just as memorable as the likes of "Maneater", "Your Latest Trick" or "Careless Whisper" - I selected those thanks to their pop/rock feelings, a lot different than classic jazz even though some of those songs are quite jazzy.

Anyway, the story went on and after some years of being a fanatic for the song I had the chance to see this video. It was nice knowing Gerry and his band mates, hear the song all over again since I never get tired of it but it was a pity that it got edited down a little if compared with the original version which almost hits the 6-minute mark.

It isn't just the sax that hits me the most. There's also the enigmatic lyrics, Gerry's quiet voice and harmony - which is very unique - , the excellent guitar solo and the string section that hits at the conclusion (so many feelings over this one, I can't describe it. It feels like a cut through the heart yet I love it).

Here, Mr. Rafferty and band perform the song on a small studio, and there's also some minor exterior shots of London or some Brit metropolitan area. Well, what can I say...for a video made before MTV, VH1 and other channels introduction this one is cool, the song is pure awesomeness so I can't criticized it too hard. But it breaks my heart to not give this a perfect ten stars because they edited the song a little. 9/10.

Warning: Spoilers
It's hard to believe Baker Street was released nearly 50 years ago, yes half-a-century ago, and its lyrics, rhythm and of course the sax solo is timeless and lives on and on, especially immortalized by Lisa Simpson in the Simpson's episode, Lisa's Sax. Anyway, Baker Street is one that one can hum and it stays in the mid, and definitely a favorite for many. The feeling that Baker Street brings out is quite evocative and the current social media generation will hopefully appreciate such music because of the appeal to listeners and music fans of all generations who will appreciate the sax solo for sure.
