My Review- The Final Quarter. Rating 10/10
This excellent documentary directed by Ian Darling is not to be missed you can catch it on TEN Play or Cinema release .
I'm not interested in football at all but this is so much more than about Australian sport .
The Final Quarter produced by Shark Island Productions, is a 2019 Australian documentary directed by Ian Darling about the final stages of the Australian football career of Adam Goodes, during which he was the target of repeated booing and a insults from spectators on both sides.
Adam Goodes 2014 Australian of the Year and famous Sydney Swans player highlighted the ugly underbelly of racism in Australia and did no more really than Rosie Batty 2015 Australian of the Year did to highlight DomesticViolence .
Adam Goodes , dared to be a proud First Australian and when he performed an indigenous war dance, similar to a much performed
Maori Haka was taunted and booed by the crowds at his matches and called disgusting names by some.
As this provoking and disturbing 75 minute World Class Documentary shows the vilification and hatred stirred up by loud moth shock jocks like Melbourne television football commentator Sam Newman helped cause a toxic atmosphere at matches where Adam Goodes was playing and resulted in the player retiring as a result of the trauma insults and rejection that just got worse.
It shows clearly that Adam Goodes was a proud First Nation Australian taking a proud stand for his people but in doing so exposed the ugly underbelly of racism in some parts of Australia and also shows the ugliness of a bullying crowd mentality,I'm so glad I watched this terrific film.
