Jack stated that Macgyver's improvised device was "Fonzarelli cool", which is an allusion to the character Arthur Fonzarelli from Happy Days (1974), portrayed by Henry Winkler, the executive producer of MacGyver (1985) and current version of the show.
MacGyver says to Jack that he had a secret escape hatch built at his Grandfathers house. If it is so secret, how did the "ghost" find it and rig it with explosives too.
When we see Mac And Jack in Afghanistan, Jack calls Mac "Nostradumbass". This is a reference to the astrologer, physician, and apothecary known for being able to apparently see the future.
During the flashbacks to Jack and MacGuyver's time in Afghanistan, "I'm your huckleberry" can be seen written on the back of Jack's helmet, a nod to Val Kilmer's role as Doc Holliday in "Tombstone" (1993). The quote means "I'm your man" or "I'm the man for the job" and foreshadows the end of the episode where Jack chooses to reenlist under the condition that his job is working with MacGuyver.
