Great song, visually impressive video its strong red/blue colors

One of those rare occasions where bassist Mike Mills has the chance to shine as an R. E. M. Singer, just as in "Tearkana" and "Superman" and he does it with great style. He doesn't have the typical vocal style for a lead singer yet somehow it fits with perfection each time he had to perform on R. E. M. Songs. "Near Wild Heaven" is a favorite of mine in many ways.

The video, sadly, wasn't among the ones that got some heavy airplay for reasons unknown - though the song is quite popular in here. The cinematography work is amazing all the way as capturing a fun hot day in New York, around a café where the group attends and performs the song. Red and blue tones dominate the screen creating a mesmerizing effect, though I'm not so sure if audiences like to see such creations where one particular color brights the whole frame from pronlongued times. I just love it. If not watching for the images, just do it for the song which is lovely all the way.

9/10.
