Preliminary review

Just watching the first episode. The negative reviews so far are silly. This is working up as a fever dream of an epic series. Maybe I'll end up being disappointed, but not so far. High quality actors and their craft, very cool cinematography. But it's not for any snowflake who would go see "Pulp Fiction" or that ilk and close their eyes in horror. Plot elements that seem unrealistic or goofy are, I think, because it's not meant ot be "realistic." It's a fantasy, like "The Road Warrior" is a fantasy. Great diversion from all the Nordic and other "Watching the Detectives" streamers. Classic basic plot elements - hidden gold, mysterious motivations, conniving characters, esily corruptible "good guys" and adolescents, etc.

Unspectacular start
grantss2 January 2024
Bounty hunter Red Bill is on the hunt for a particular outlaw and is collecting the heads of other wanted individuals as he searches. His investigations take him to the town of Greenvale where he falls foul of the local sheriff Arthur McCoy who sees him as infringing on his territory.

An unspectacular start to the series. The plot is pretty basic, unoriginal and unintriguing. In addition the main characters are not very engaging - there's not anyone worth supporting. Plus they just seem fairly generic.

There is some potential for things to become more complex and intriguing, meaning I'll be watching further. Whether I make it to the end of series is another story.

I don't miss many westerns. This one is too oddball.

Even though they throw in every western cliche known to the Great Creator and John Ford, they also had to throw in a few new gags, like weapons that look like the usual steampunk nonsense, and casting choices that are far more inclusive and diverse than was ever allowed in 19th Century America. This tripe seems like it was made for the CW.

As for the pronunciation of "Bowie", it would be ludicrous to assume that every diseased nitwit and uneducated weirdo in the Old West knew to pronounce it in the "one true way". There are plenty of reasons to judge this trash harshly, so reviewers would do well to pick a valid one.

'Bowie' knife?

C'mon...it's the first line of the show and they mispronounce Bowie Knife. If they can't get that right, they should be ashamed of themselves for making a western.
