Best episode of the Season!
alvaroeliezer28 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was insane, in my opinion the best episode of the whole season (which i watched in one day). The plane scene was really intense, then in the same episode we have a motivacional speech about the Spice Girls and one of the funniest scenes that i've ever seen, yes, i'm talking about The Deep and The Dolphin.

Diabolical

This is the best show on TV right now. Well, streaming, but you get the point.

This episode is paced to perfection, with twists aplenty. I had to pick up my jaw from the floor so many times. Best episode of the season and proof that a show like this is exactly what the world needs right now.

And... That airplane scene?! Oh, man. You guys aren't ready.

Heading Strong

From the fight sequence to the inspirational pep talk, everything is awesome. Homelander's presence gives the chills, specially that airplane sequence. Chemistry between the leads is good.

Still Going Well!
mmoon-2376330 July 2019
Still enjoying this show. So far, this episode has been the goriest and still looks great by the way.

We also see more of the evil of certain Supes and just the plain casual disregard of the effect of their actions on normal people (for example, the plane scene).

We are also introduced to a mysterious new character, which I am very interested to see who or what she is.

Getting strong with the direction.
cruise0113 September 2019
4 out of 5 stars.

This episode was a bit of a shocker. From the emotional powerful moment with the hijacking airplane sequence with homelander supposedly trying to rescue. To the hilarious dark moment with deep trying to rescue a dolphin. To Butchers funny weird pep talk. While his team is trying to get to this lady with powers before A train does. A lot of moving pieces and exciting moments.

Homelander is such a rogue.
BA_Harrison22 August 2019
With episode four, Amazon superhero series The Boys continues in seriously twisted mode, caped crimefighter Homelander (Antony Starr) proving just how corrupt and callous he really is when a rescue mission on a high-jacked passenger plane goes seriously wrong. Back on land, Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) and his cohorts raid an enemy stronghold where they discover a mysterious and very violent young woman being held captive.

The botched plane rescue is this episode's undeniable highlight: it's great to see just how unfeeling and self-serving Homelander can be, and Starr gives another great performance. Dominique McElligott, as his conflicted companion Queen Maeve, is also very good. My only minor complaint about this episode is the bowling alley date for Hughie (Jack Quaid) and Starlight (Erin Moriarty): it's necessary so that Hughie can bug Starlight's phone, but seems a touch too drawn-out and sedate compared with the show's more outrageous, fast-paced content.

7.5/10, rounded up to 8 for IMDb.

Dolphins, small epic fight scene and that plane
shwetafabm20 August 2020
Stellar. I was thoroughly entertained. I would really like to see more action. I think that's what i have been missing. It's a lot of talking. The psychotic nature of the lead superhero is unfolding. We get to know more about Frenchie. I think Starlight is a bit boring to me but i do appreciate that there is someone normal in the series.

The story moves along with one of the best episodes
Q-Man13 December 2020
The story is developing well. We're starting to see more character development. This episode begins to humanize The Deep, after his less than gracious introduction. We see he cares about things, especially dolphins, and has some insecurities. Home lander, on the other hand, is an insensitive, egotistical arrogant jerk who care about nothing but himself (kind of reminds me of a certain prominent political figure, also with blond hair). I don't think Homelander is going to improve. Queen Maeve is also showing her humanity. Stillwell is just as callous as Homelander. As the show goes on, I wonder if any of the Seven will defect to the other side. After all, Butcher is the coolest character on the series. Hughie is growing into the job and Frenchie is great. The show could go anywhere from here. So far, I'm really enjoying it.

Dark and psychotic, I love it

Warning: Spoilers
This episode was so good, the plane moment was just dark and twisted. I don't think I've ever seen anything so cluel in a tv show. Frenchie's personal monolog was very heartfelt.

How do you know so much about Spice Girls?
gedikreverdi21 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The most hilarious episode so far with the conversation between Deep and the dolphin and the Spice Girls pep talk and also very gory with the kills of the Asian girl. Homelander proved to be a giant manipulator again with failing everyone on board on the hijacked plane.

Homelander portrayal is amazing Warning: Spoilers
The actor playing Homelander is so good at acting a character who is good at "acting" contrary to how they are feeling by actually convincing themself in the moment that they are feeling that contrary way. I literally got chills during that last scene.

Good episodes with some boring stories
jpcerniglia25 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Most of this episode is good such as the plane plot, and the deep's ark but The Female's story is boring and uninteresting. It would have been the best episode of the series but the main story was just boring.

Seriously?
cyntillations27 June 2021
Homelander can FLY. He's strong enough to "punch right through" an airplane. Why can't he do the Superman thing and safely direct the plane to land from the outside? I understand he's a self-centered jerk (among other expletives) but this just feels like a huge plot hole and a failing on the part of the writers.

The rest of the episode was much better, actually exciting and shocking.

A Female Killer
ZegMaarJus11 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode begins with Billy, he has sex with Becca. Kimiko killed the Filipino guys. Kimiko killed Mamasan Matron. Homelander and Queen Maeve saved the plane from the terrorists. The plane is crashing. Homelander and Maeve let everyone die on the plane. Hughie has a date with Starlight, they are bowling together. MM, Frenchie and Billy are chasing down Kimiko. A-Train fights with Kimiko. Amazing Episode of The Boys Season 1, there was so many action this episode. A new character got introduced: Kimiko a.k.a The Female!

Hugely enjoyable

Another hugely enjoyable episode. So much going on here and it's all layered which I loved. Astonishing set-pieces, intriguing new characters, death, violence and action, all rolled into one.

"How do you know so much about the Spice Girls?"
thomasgouldsbrough2 August 2022
This episode is weaker than the other's, but it's still pretty good. It develops the story arc quite well by exploring the downsides to being a part of Butchers vigilante group, and that is the lack of freedom, aswell as the questionable moral decisions.

S1.E4 - The Female of the Species [8.8/10]
panagiotis199320 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
(S1. E4) My Reaction / Review for The Boys Season 1 Episode 4 ''The Female of the Species'': Episode 3 was good and I gave it a rating of 9/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. The deep sees a psychiatrist? Interesting. Who is that asian girl? She seems to be very powerful. Could she become member of the team? Translucent is dead and all they care about is what to say to the people, they don't even care if he is dead or alive, its all about marketing strategy. Wow Homelander and Maeve left all these people on the plane to die? That's so brutal. Homelander is such a misanthrope. I think that Starlight and Hughie have decent chemistry. The girl they met does she talk or not? Overall another great episode, my rating is 8.8/10.

The show peaked early....this is still the best episode.
jrony-449434 January 2024
This is the quintessential "The Boys" episode, containing all of it's best qualities. It's a shame that the show had lost it's way during the 3rd season, because it really had something going for it. We get genuine moments that are expanded upon in the later seasons, some darkly hilarious scenes, and some disturbing highlights (the airplane scene in particular). There are so many banger scenes stacked into this one episode, and it all feels so original.

Generally, I prefer the cat and mouse vibe of Season 1 compared to the politicized drama of Season 3, because it forced the gang to be creative to get one over on the Supes. There are so many good ideas littered throughout this episode, which you only appreciate on repeated watches. I suppose Season 1 in general has all these qualities combined (whereas something always felt missing in the subsequent seasons), but this episode is such a perfect distillation of everything that made this show click. The over-the-top violence, the sad and disturbing moments, the dark comedy gets perfectly combined to make an episode that shouldn't work if it tries to do that many things at once, but it all somehow works out.

Overall, the best episode in the show.

I think...
LegendaryFang563 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Given the context and how what Homelander did was probably just because he didn't care or maybe to create a situation to push the "Supes in the military" agenda and get the people to further help, what he did was messed up. But he make some good points as messed up as even thinking about doing that, let alone actually doing it, is. As for Queen Maeve's part in it, she should've stayed and died with them instead of abandoning them too.

Dolphins are mammals
stop-believing1 August 2022
Planes don't get hijacked when they're in the middle of the ocean, they wait until they're near the target. Also, dolphins aren't fish!

This show is full of plot holes.

Major Problem- The villains are one dimensional.
rh_shuvo4678 September 2020
Homelander, Atrain, The corporate overlord lady all are one dimensional money hungry villains. All they care about money. The train hijack scene significantly reduced the weight of Homelander. No character would do that just for money and reputation. And queen Maeve is a shame in writing. She would definitely react definitely but writers chose to keep her dumb. Preety bored seeing these one dimensional villains. I am not sure if I would continue watching this series.

Four episodes is enough, I quit.
jackdog1-125 September 2019
The biggest problem? I can't stand one of the main characters - Homelander. It's as though the writers looked at Donald Trump and modeled the entire character after him and created the first smarmy narcissistic super "hero". I may have to live in Trump world in real life but fortunately I don't have to in my entertainment. I'm out.

Just how stupid does the Script writer think we are?.
davidhiggins-897562 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
**Does contain spoilers** **Does contain spoilers**. AND future plot predictions.

A instant 2 star rating for the colossal INSULT TO OUR INTELLIGENCE of having a hijacked Aircraft crash into the ocean hundreds of miles from land then almost the same day/short time later, a condensed 400 metre wide 'mass' collection of luggage & aircraft frame debris is seen to wash up on a beach.

Utter GARBAGE.

It would have taken ages to wash ashore and the items would be few & far between, many just sinking. Spreading out over a massive distance in many directions. Why portray such a BOGUS scene as that?. So either the writer was thick &/or they think we are.

What a despicable bunch of corporate superhero's they are. Even the Wonder Woman knock off just stood around letting the Superman knock off kill some gun nut after shooting the street up. Like SWAT couldn't bust into the shooters occupied office type room anyway and deal with it themselves.

Only the new member of the Seven has any sympathy from the viewer. I bet the team of vigilantes end up recruiting sunbeam her later on, we'll see.

It is all progressing along, as I said in ep 1 review of mine. That super outfit is like a WWE on steroids. Now as we see actually quite literally as well as proverbially. Their version of steroids, power enhancing drugs.

**spoiler alert** **spoiler alert** **spoiler alert** (possibly!).

I suspect various parents in the past have been given weird drugs by that corporate outfit to GIVE their offspring super powers, with later on we may well find out Miss Sunbeam Flashlight's mother being one of them. I bet it is not just current drugs to enhance powers but PAST drugs to INDUCE offspring to develop powers. She will be upset with her mother.

It is all coming along, but for that aircraft debris malarkey this episode has to be heavily marked down. Plenty of good action now & then and development of plot, (& gore to be avoided), so gets higher than a 1 star rating, but for that massive insult to our intelligence just the 2 stars.
