A thing of magical beauty

One of my favorite tracks from The Verve and also on overall music, "Lucky Man" takes me to a higher elevation of the senses and the music video also deserves some credit for it due to a simplicity that reaches levels beyond comprehension and cause some great effect.

I usually find band performances on videos lacking in visual substance and just the music creates the appeal (that's the purpose actually, the music). But when videos started to create stories or use of some art or animation, it made the experience of watching videos something bigger and even enhanced the memories we have from certain songs and I won't even mention classic music videos that used of such idea. However, this one being quiet and simple as it is marked me for some reason, tiny little things that made the whole even better and whenever I listen to it I keep remembering those images.

Lead singer Richard Ashcroft dominates the screen with his guitar while performing the song inside this big glass house where a magnificent morning invades the whole space creating a whole beautiful atmosphere in the place, and the rest of the band just stay in the background doing almost nothing, they're all relaxed while Ashcroft sings his heart out about how lucky he is because he can do and feel amazing things. Those words of mine can't touch with precision certain feelings and sensations it brings to me neither what you could feel with such but it's a start.

To me, in terms of performance videos this is quite perfect not just because of the images and editing but also the song, one of the greatest hits from "Urban Hymns". This is the UK video version (and the one I knew first and seen lots of times) which is a lot better than the US version (of which I also wrote and find it lacking in many things). One thing is certain and that "Lucky Man" has one of the greatest lyrics and rhythms ever presented on rock/pop music of the past 30 years, it's on that selective list. At least with me. 10/10.
