Redundant story but great origin to Cicada.
cruise015 July 2019
The Flash Episode 5.07 (3 out of 5 stars).

Barry and his team come across another meta human called the weather witch. Meanwhile, they are trying to discover who Cicada is. And the episode does focus on Cicada before he became a villain. Which was pretty neat to see his side of the story. When he took the guardianship of watching over his niece. He was a dead beat kind of guy. Until, the satellite came crashing down on Earth. Putting his niece in a coma. And giving him some kind of abilities.

It was an interesting episode. Some fun moments but the side villain of the Weather witch was cliché and boring.

Cicada's backstory and fun Thanksgiving festivities make for a solid outing for The Flash
jaythezoomster12 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Let's face it, "The Icicle Cometh" sucked. It just did.

But this episode? This is a good one.

If "O Come All Ye Thankful" did anything right, it was developing Cicada as a character. So far he's been a faceless killer who seems to be having some physical issues and this episode dived into him. He had a compelling backstory that while it could be considered cliche, honestly worked for me. I loved seeing him go from not wanting to parent his niece at all to actually loving her and going into a depressive rage filled murder spree over her. It was nice development and a great thing to have for a villain.

The other plot of the episode? It's fine. Weather Witch is a solid enough villain even if she is a tad over the top and it was amazing to see Mark Mardon again, as he's my favorite rogue the show as done. I thought her vendetta against Mardon was a bit one dimensional but overall it came together well enough and the final action scene of the episode was super solid.

Nora and Barry's arguments in this episode did feel a bit forced at times but in the end, I get where Nora's coming from. I just wish the show presented her in a better light so she didn't seem to be pitching a fit every other episode.

The icing on the cake, though, is the great Thanksgiving festivities that make this holiday special of a Flash episode the delight it is. Caitlin and Cisco describing Thanksgiving to Sherloque and them all going anti-Thanksgiving made for a great gag and finding out who Cicada was at the end was a super solid way to tie everything together.

A great backstory for a new and interesting villain, fun set-pieces and super enjoyable holiday festivities makes "O Come All Ye Thankful" a great time and a nice addition to the well done yet sadly uneven first half of Season 5.

A Thanksgiving tribute episode
asb_deutsch1 December 2018
Father-daughter issue again...I hope the writers will push the envelop forward instead of dragging it into a soap opera.

Reina Hardesty was the selling point here but this episode belongs to Cicada again. It was nice to see a super-villain from the previous seasons (no spoiler!)

My ratings (based on what I marked on IMDb): Season 1: 200/23 = 8.69; Season 2: 193/23= 8.23; Season 3: 188/23= 8.17; Season 4: 146/23= 6.65 and Season 5= 47.5/7 = 6.79 - a seven for episode 7!

Amazing episode

Loved this episode! I also loved that they brought the weather wizard music from season 1 back when Barry fought weather Witch. Also I thought Cicada's backstory was also pretty interesting.

Best episode of the season thus far
dcolyer28 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Finally we got a season 5 episode (other than the season 5 premiere "Nora") that seemed to be pretty close to the "sweet spot" as far as The Flash episodes go. Was it one of the best of all five seasons? I don't think so, but it was a pretty dang solid episode.

I thought the tone was just about right. I only saw one thing that to me was over the top in a negative way, and it was minor. Let me clarify: There's over the top in a good way, and over the top in a bad or negative way. Mark Hamill as the Trickster is way over the top, but it's absolutely fantastic; it just works so seamlessly! The goofy scenes with Cecile trying to intimidate the FEMA guy into giving her records was over the top in a negative way. I did not see anything in this episode that was over the top in a negative or bad way.

I thought the gorgeous Reina Hardesty played the Weather Witch well, over the top but in a good way. Could we have used a little more of her in the episode? Sure, but I like what I saw. I especially like how, just like old times, Barry kicked her ass. I was fist-pumping when I saw that, after getting chills with Blake Neely's great Weather Wizard theme revived from season 1, as Barry encircled the lightning tornado created by the Weather Witch and ultimately took her into custody. Bravo!

Blake Neely's musical score was spot on in this episode. Fresh, but still harkening back to earlier seasons as needed. Excellent. The vibe (pardon the expression) from the musical score was really great.

I am digging Klein as Cicada. He's hitting the sweet spot. I like it. I like how the production team fleshed him out this episode. They gave us some great perspective. We now know why he does the things he does. Cliché? I guess you could argue that it is. But honestly, it's a cliché I can live with. I've seen life produce many clichés in my lifetime. Cliché is not always bad. If the things that happened to Dwyer had happened to me and the child I was raising, I'd probably want to wipe out every last meta-human as well. I can't blame him for what he's feeling. Is he right to murder people? Absolutely not. He has to be stopped; however, I can appreciate what he feels. Klein is killing the role, in my opinion.

I'm still not sold on the Sherloque Wells character. I would rather have seen a refurbished rehabilitated Harry for this season, but it looks like that is not going to happen. Sherloque was okay this episode. Just tolerable.

The revisionist Thanksgiving lectures by Cisco and Sherloque were goofy. C'mon. This was the one thing in the episode that I thought was over the top in a negative way, but it was minor, and we didn't get bashed over the head with it.

I liked the further development for Nora and her fears of losing her dad. This seems to me to be expected for someone who theoretically went through something like what our fictional character Nora went through. She's terrified of losing her father. He seems to be one of the main reasons--if not the primary reason--why Nora went back in time (at least from our perspective at this point in the season; this could change as more things are revealed to us about Nora and her time-traveling).

To The Flash production team: good work on this episode. Good stuff. I dug it. Give us more like this (or hopefully even better) and we will have had a good season, at least as good as season 3.

My rating: 8.5/10 (rounds up to a 9 on the IMDb scale)

Grade: B

Unlucky

Warning: Spoilers
This lame "superhero" once again ( I seriously have lost count by now) is down and someone else saves his life.

I wonder if the writers could give us an episode when this "superhero" could not have his ass kicked just once.

Once.

But after 5 seasons i should know better.

This show is " Awesome Team Flash and oh look the Flash is down again"

Ranking/Reviewing every Flash episode: O Come All Ye Thankful
lbramson14 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Getting better! On Thanksgiving, Weather Witch terrorizes Team Flash. Cicada's tragic origin is also revealed. After a string of bad/meh episodes, this one was a huge improvement! Cicada's origin is so we'll executed and one of the few times when he was a good villain. You really feel a connection between him and his neice and it's heartbreaking when she goes into a coma. It's the most heart felt and emotional episode since the Runaway Dinosaur. Unfortunately, the Weather Witch storyline kinda sucks. It's not the worst thing ever, but it's very cheesy compared to the amazing Cicada origin story. Maybe now we can get back to interesting main stories and not soap opera drama.

Same tired storyline
sisdog-11 December 2018
This episode really made the bad Flash costume stand out even more. Very bad design. I am sooooooooo tired of this Nora storyline that I am considering not watching the rest of the season. The Flash and the Arrow need new show runners because they have hit the wall.

Warning: Spoilers
After seeing the last episode, i thought that finally this show was going down the right path. But alas the good old team of iris and not iris junior manages to pull it back down into the dung. The same thing again, give up being the flash and be my father instead. Seriously, they should change the genre of this show to a soap opera. Cicada's backstory was nice and it was good seeing an old villain back. That's probably the only reason I've given it a 4 and not a 1

Same story, different week.
ThomasDrufke4 December 2018
In a season that has been nothing better 'meh', this episode once again found itself lost in mediocrity. Surprisingly, it feels like these CW shows rarely do Thanksgiving episodes, or maybe when they do, they are so unbelievably forgettable. That's exactly how this episode felt, like something I will inevitably forget in a week.

It had been too long since the last weather wizard like metahuman appeared, so of course we needed Weather Witch to make her first appearance as she did essentially the same thing as her weather loving predecessors, make a big tornado-ish cloud of something, only for Barry to run fast around it and save the day. Very original.

Oh and I know you were also desperately asking for more childish Nora plotlines, because those have been scarce this year, well we got those too! Because she needs to get extremely heated at her parents at least once a week. The only thing I appreciated about this episode is its effort to finally give Cicada some depth with him and his daughter taking on more focus this week. But I should stress the word effort, because the execution was far from good. I love this show....

Just terrible
lamhoangnb-09022 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Nora is winning in the race to the most annoying character. She has never met her father before going back in time, why is she overly attached to Barry now? It's so unnatural. What else unnatural? Nora and Iris just made up in the last episode and now they are BFFs? And then she turns around once again and blaming her parents for Barry's disappearance. In an early scene when Barry is about to remove the core she said "something doesn't feel right" out of nowhere, just to give her a reason to blame their decision later. Cicada's backstory is not much better. His daughter Grace is just like 8 years old but she said some overly mature lines. While that is still acceptable, the motive for Cicada to attack team Flash is just ridiculous. Everyone with a brain knows that the Flash is helping catching the metas, and he wants him dead just because he's the meta too? Even the doctor, who is supposed to be calm and objective, assists him in his killing spree. Well done, writers. You've created a magnificent mess.

Decent Episode. But Hollywood hates Thanksgiving.
timjtraver13 September 2020
When is the last time Hollywood did a Thanksgiving episode where they didn't spew all their opinionated anti-American nonsense? Leftists can't help themselves; they have to push their politics at every opportunity. Not a surprise, but still annoying. Otherwise, a half-decent episode.
