A bit of an uneasy marriage but this contains some of the best material in the 14th season
CubsandCulture23 October 2021
There's a bit of a tonal disconnect between the Nick going crazy story being coupled with Jack's illness, bonding with Dean. It is unfortunate because both sides of this episode contain some of the best material in the entire season.

Dean-Jack's day out-framed by Jack grappling with mortality-is sentimental without being cloying. It doesn't feel forced even if it is a bit unearned. The learning to drive sequence is bittersweet as it works well as a comedic bit and pathos-it rhymes with the "Night Moves" sequence in Baby (Season 11 Episode 4).

Likewise, Nick seeking revenge and then his desire to re-unite with Lucifer is darkly compelling. It is just human enough to be believable and just Lucy enough to remind us of the character we have grown to know over the years. The material is some of the darkest the show has done in awhile.

But together the two sides don't fully gel.

I don't care about Lucifer anymore
sloopnp15 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed Lucifer. The character and actor, but this story arc should have ended in last year's finale. We know SN can never leave anyone dead, but I'm over this guy. I'm over Mary as well. The loss of their parents is what made the Winchesters who they are. She shouldn't still be on this crowded show. Stop bringing everyone back! Rant over, I'll never stop watching :)

Darkest episode of supernatural in a long time
patrickgamer69021 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was the most darkest and grittiest of a show such as Supernatural. This one pretty much dealed with real life psychological issues and combined them with mythos of angels and demons. Mark Pellegrino really shined in this episode as we get to see Nick's inner turmoil. That final scene of him praying to lucifer was well acted and shot with that creepy shot of lucifer rising.

Other than that I think Jack and Dean had the best scenes. They had good chemistry and very much needed screen time together. This was the most depressing episode of Supernatural in a very long time since it foreshadows nothing good but Darkness. Coupled with good performances and directing this pretty much is in my most memorable supernatural episodes yet. 10/10.

Dark

One of the darkest episodes of Supernatural which is a weird statement considering it was the best day of Jack's life.

Tears!!!😭
elmodaddysgirl21 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I looked at some of the other reviews & can only think: Did we watch 2 different episodes? I cried, mainly for Sam, Dean, & Cas. I've not been one of Jack's biggest fans but this episode changed that for me.

SPOILERS: the 3 dad's are losing their son, I think Dean is taking it harder than the other 2. The fishing scene is the best one I think. The fact that Rowena was in this episode helped too, cause she's always awesome. I love how Sam used Dean as the excuse to get her there & she came running!!! Also, surprise, Lucy's not dead, not that I thought he was. I love that they made Nick a serial killer, natural progression in my opinion. Plus Mark Pellegrino pulls it off beautifully.

mark pellegrino is the reason why
groffmark29 October 2020
When the chemistry of the brothers is gone(i think), it's the devil's turn to light this long running show. Seriously, I spent less than two months to nearly finish this show, yes, of course, I'd touched by their bromance, But , mark Pellegrino gives me the deepest impression, he deserves more. And, without Lucifer, in my opinion, the show should've ended years before because of it's boringness. Feel sorry for Nike/Lucifer 's ending in season14. He'd never appeared on any cover of any season of SPN , so little scene , but somehow , he donated so much to the main plot. I 'm longing for a miracle that Nike/Lucifer would be back, every character in this show deserve a deserved ending, even for the bad guy , especially a charming bad guy. 😝😈

"Losing a son"?!
StorieLuver8 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
About halfway through the episode, Cas says that Jack dying is "losing a son." Ugh! Ok, maybe he's like a son to Cas, especially since Kelly picked Cas to "raise" him and Jack did refer to Cas as his father at the beginning of last season. But he is NOT a son to the Winchesters...more like an abnoxious, clueless little brother that no one really wants around. I am so hoping Jack is actually really dead now, he's not adding anything to the show. And while I understand what they were trying to do with the "Dean teaches Jack to drive" scene, how many episodes did it take Dean to allow a fully licensed Sam to drive Baby back in Season 1? Speaking of the old seasons: my DVR recorded some Season 2 episodes off TNT and I watched one of them, "Bloodlust," immediately after watching this new episode. While I love "Supernatural" and will be with it to the end, it was just so jarring watching a classic episode and comparing it to the show now. So much has changed, even the way it's filmed. I actually miss those old, dark episodes!

A very weak episode
bluecolette6 December 2018
Worst episode of the season. Ross-Leming and Buckner are really not good at writing consistent stories. They always make up plots about Nick/Lucifer that go against 10 things that have already been established on the show, from seasons 4 to 13. Most if not all of the plot holes of the show can be linked to them. We keep coming back to this boring character who did his time, he never should've been brought back after season 13. And that ending? Made no sense whatsoever. Only a Nephilim can access that power. The dialogue is not good; it's not natural, it doesn't flow. The episode itself was boring, the pacing was off. I loved the Dean & Jack bonding scenes; really cute.

Great Story ruined by more boring Lucifer garbage
Johnny_West30 November 2018
Rowena is back, and Castiel sets out to find some help for Jack. Finally something positive is happening. In the midst of that, Dean and Jack go out camping and fishing and have a great time. This could have been one of the best episodes of Supernatural ever.

Unfortunately, it was ruined by twenty minutes of the endless whining and droning of Mark Pellegrino as Lucifer. Wow, what a drag. Mark Pellegrino has only one acting speed, and it is endlessly boring. I have been hoping the character would be killed off for years, and it just keeps hanging on, like stepping on a turd.

Needless to say, the human body of Lucifer is evil too, and it is taking dozens of murders for the writers of Supernatural to get us to the obvious conclusion; that Lucifer possessed an evil soul in an evil body, so many years ago... Boring.

Slow and how much more can they drag one thing
shwetafabm9 August 2020
Casifer was glorious, S12 Lucifer was a bore, at least he did something in S13 but really? How much can this be dragged? Why would Nick be alive? Why is archangel grace being wasted? How does he even have it? He does say but maybe i'm too dumb because it made no sense to me. I seriously only started caring about Jack last episode so eh if he dies he dies, the emotion was not there for me much and as far as Dean is considered i think the show focuses way way way too much on him and his man pain.
