Solid start with great performances from the sisters.
GraXXoR26 September 2019
Alma appears very dissatisfied with her lot in life, which is presented as a sort of millennial affliction, if you will. However, it becomes clear that this is not entirely without reason: Family relations appear strained and the loss of her father has clearly affected her deeply.

The climactic start and flashback leading up to it feel natural and well paced, without rush or undue lingering.

It only takes a few minutes to become concerned for the mental wellbeing of Alma and immersed in her small world, which is rendered lovingly and in exquisite detail. In fact, I became so immersed and the rotoscoping was so fittingly done that I often forgot I was watching an animation.

Overall, a fairly convincing start with a compelling lead character and a nice mysterious hook at the end that hints at exciting things to come.

23 minutes of total condensation
LeCronopio22 September 2019
There is a mixture of narrative, cinematographic, scenic elements, so in theoretical and aesthetic versatility, that is indisputably recognizable in the proposal that they deliver from the hand of this protagonist with existential problems and vertiginously disinterested act. Rosa Salazar is undeniably a pleasure to see interpreting on the screen; there is a genuineness and talent that is always deeply grateful for whoever sees it: two adjectives to which few actresses one could apply in the more BIG group of names in the industry, of which she is already starting to be a part. The particular technical and artistic end fit the script in an complete organic way, so that Hulsing and Bob-Waksberg do nothing but continue their good walk in a meeting that is a definite success. The show wants to talk and ask the viewer important things, but without this involving a tedium; that is, doing it simply, effectively. And it succeeds. In 23 minutes it is able to condense everything that the attempt is in itself; true and captivating, closing with the final push that leaves the viewer in the pool of this "search" entitled "Undone".

Exquisitely animated opening.

Loved Rosa Salazar in Alita: Battle Angel and Brand New Cherry Flavor which drew me into this. She does a great job here using her expressive voice to convey what the animation alone cannot.

The animation style is beautiful with a combination of oil painting frame-by-frame and digitised motion capture, making for a pleasing result. This is a strong first episode setting the parameters of Alma's life, she works in a kindergarten and life is mundane, boring and repetitive - she is dissatisfied with it and feels there must be more. Her world is about to be transformed.

Ring and repetitiveness

Episode 1: Normally nice with signs of a deeper plan. The animation showing the faces when they talk and interact is quite good actually, but based on the first episode, it's just above average.

It lacks flow and speed and is more of melodramatic dysfunctionality for now (1st episode).

The Crash

Warning: Spoilers
There was something about the first episode that reminded me of Fleabag.

Maybe it is because of two contrasting sisters, Becca who is engaged to be married but Alma wants to break them up.

Alma does not want to settle down with her boyfriend. She is already bored of her routine life.

Alma feels trapped and she is involved in an accident which is linked to seeing a vision of her dead father.

There is less of the fantasy in the first episode. The visual style is good, a kind of rotoscope animation aimed at adults.

I did wonder if this really needed to be animated.

However a story about a bored dysfunctional twentysomething is not new. Later episodes really need to bring something different to the table.

An unwatchable main character
Gretel10065 September 2022
The main gal is so horribly self-centered, negative, and mean that I don't think I can continue to watch this.

It seems unrealistic for a rotten person like this to have a sister who would consistently goes out of her way to be positive and caring as well as a boyfriend who is that supportive and forgiving. Who to have such a giving.

Know that the story arc will show her becoming a new person but I feel so disgusted with her current behavior that it's not worth continuing.

The animation is really impressive. You can easily identify who the real actors are. The acting seems quite good and believable, especially by Bob Odenkirk.
